Chinese nationals most attracted to MM2H

Chinese nationals most attracted to MM2H programme

UTRAJAYA: The Chinese have taken to Malaysia in a big way. They account for the lion’s share of participants in the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme, according to Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi (pix).

Of the 43,943 people from 131 countries who have qualified for the programme, 13,892 are from China.

“Apart from the principal applicants, many family members are also in the programme,” Mohamaddin said when launching the 10th MM2H National Workshop at his ministry here today.

With 4,882 of its people in the programme, Japan is the second largest participating country. Rounding off the top five are Bangladesh with 4,187 people, the United Kingdom with 2,729 and South Korea with 2,568.

Mohamaddin said the programme contributed RM18.3 billion to the local economy last year in the form of mandatory fixed deposit contributions, immigration visa fees and other related payments. He said the collection of visa fees alone amounted to RM16.7 million last year.

“Aggressive sales missions and promotional activities over the past 10 years have led Malaysia to be ranked fifth in 2018 and 2019 as the world’s best retirement haven and as the only Asian country to qualify for this position, according to International Living, an online index on retirement overseas.

Malaysia has been the top choice for the Japanese since 2006, earning the country the Japan Longstay Foundation award.

Mohamaddin urged experienced and successful MM2H companies such as Iconic Living MM2H, U1 International MM2H, Alter Domus MM2H, Aspire MM2H and Aubella MM2H to provide guidance to the new members in attracting quality foreign citizens to join the programme.

https://www.thesundaily.my/local/chinese-na...ramme-KD1126480

Plot twist: We just found one of the coolest things you’ll ever see in an airport… And yes, we meant it when we said twist.

Singapore Airport already takes the cake as the best airport in the world, and in case you needed another reason to extend your layover at SIN, well — feast your eyes on this:

Yup, I’ll take your “beedoop machine that makes beedoop noises” and raise you an actual slide that takes you down to the terminal.

Better yet, this isn’t even The Slide at SIN… it’s just a slide. The Slide is an almost 40-foot slide located in Terminal 3 that was unveiled back in 2010, and even claims the title of the “world’s tallest slide inside an airport.”

The slide in the video is located at Terminal 4; you’ll find it after going through security. Passenger Yusuf El Askary took the video and said, “I had never seen anything like it at an airport, I couldn’t believe it was true until I actually tried it!”

https://thepointsguy.com/news/you-can-slide...changi-airport/

PM’s Question Time to take place after all

PM’s Question Time to take place after all

KUALA LUMPUR: After the hoo-ha over having a Prime Minister’s Question Time (PMQT) slot in the Dewan Rakyat, it is now confirmed that it will take place this year.

Deputy speaker Nga Kor Ming said that it would take place “latest by the next sitting”, which runs from October to December.

On June 24, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Liew Vui Keong said there was no need for a special slot for the prime minister.

He had said it was enough that there was a Minister’s Question Time (MQT) for 30 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

It drew strong reactions including from Bersih 2.0, who pointed out PMQT was among Pakatan Harapan’s promises.

Nga said today it was part of the parliamentary reforms which PH was committed to, similar to the motion on asset declaration which was passed on Monday.

Nga also said that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was capable of answering all questions asked by MPs.

Previously Nga had said that PMQT would be similar to that being practised in the United Kingdom, where it is held in a single 30-minute session every Wednesday.

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...lace-after-all/

PH to prove no double standard in sex clip issue

Gay sex clips affair a chance for PH to prove no double standards

Pictures and videos of an individual resembling a federal minister involved in homosexual activities were recently shared on WhatsApp.

They immediately set tongues wagging and became the talk of the town.

Some dismissed them as nothing more than dirty politics. They said with high tech, such pictures and videos could easily be doctored, simulated and manipulated. And with gutter politics taking centre stage in Malaysian politics, such slander, lies and deception have become an ugly norm.

Police reports on the alleged scandal were soon lodged by concerned citizens including Umno leaders. Deputy police chief Mazlan Mansor said the police would check the authenticity of the pictures and video clips.

Then, 27-year-old Haziq Aziz, private secretary to deputy minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, confessed that he was one of the two men in the gay sex videos. He said the sexual acts took place at Hotel Four Points in Sandakan.

He also swore that the other person was Mohamed Azmin Ali. He urged the MACC to investigate the case.

Azmin denied the allegation, calling it “vicious libel” and a “nefarious plot” to kill his political career.

Hours later, more sex videos surfaced.

Not only does Haziq’s confession add a new twist to the story, it has significant implications.

Yesterday, he resurfaced and said there had been more sex romps with Azmin. He lamented how his sworn confession was dismissed by the prime minister and the government, which he said made him question the sincerity of Pakatan Harapan (PH) in pursuing reforms.

“You even have the prime minister pledging his full support before any formal investigation had been done. I hope the public will see you as who you truly are – manipulative and having immense influence all together with your henchmen Hilman, Afif, Zuraida and the rest of your inner circle that are motivated by greed and power,” he wrote.

Azmin was handpicked by Dr Mahathir Mohamad to helm a senior Cabinet post. The prime minister has also shown great faith and confidence in him.

Mahathir, in denying knowledge of the sex videos and lewd photos, asked for more credible evidence. He said Haziq’s confession was a deliberate act to serve a political agenda.

Anwar Ibrahim and PKR leaders have condemned the “scurrilous attack” on Azmin. Many NGOs too have done the same.

This developing scandal is not good for the PH government and PKR. It makes people sick having to deal with one controversy or scandal after another. It seems there is no end to the problems within PH, many of which are self-inflicted.

People are already questioning the effectiveness of the PH government in bringing about change and reform. Approval ratings for Mahathir and PH have plummeted steadily over the last few months and unless this decline of support is quickly addressed, the government will face a serious problem at the next election.

For Mahathir, the onus is now on him to show decisive leadership in dealing with the issue.

Understandably, he has to deal with this latest controversy with the impartiality expected of a leader who places the quest for truth and justice paramount over anything else.

It is even more challenging for Mahathir to deal with this new problem, coming hot on the heels of Latheefa Koya’s controversial appointment to MACC.

While the reaction from Anwar and PKR are understandable and in perfect order, people are aware of the testy relationship between him and Azmin in the tussle for influence at the top.

Both factions have to deal with the matter with wisdom so that it does not end up as another face-off between them.

Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. The police must quickly investigate the case. They must do it without fear or favour, free from interference from political masters and uninfluenced by any political quarters.

They must show the highest standard of professionalism and strict adherence to their standard operating procedures.

If there is a case, then present a good investigation paper to the attorney-general. Otherwise, the case will be closed and labelled “No Further Action”.

The facts of the case must be disclosed to the public to convince them that it has been thoroughly investigated, without any attempt of cover-up as was endemic under the previous administration.

The truth must be told, and unvarnished facts must be revealed.

Let the public evaluate from the results of the investigations whether it is a case of dirty politics or dirty sex.

Unlike some Western countries, gay sex and sodomy are a crime in Malaysia. The same-sex relations depicted in the video have drawn comparisons with other similar cases in the past. In the past, such cases were mercilessly pursued not only because they were crimes, but also because they were abhorrent in Islam.

If indeed there is case against Azmin, then he should be subjected to the same due process of law. There should be no double standards in the dispensation of justice.

If there is no truth to the allegations against Azmin, then the dark clouds hanging over his head should be cleared, and his good name and reputation restored.

He has to be vindicated as a politician and leader destined for better things and greater glory ahead.
‘very unhealthy’ air quality levels in Kedah town

Group claims ‘very unhealthy’ air quality levels in Kedah town

SUNGAI PETANI: An environmental group here claims the air pollution levels in many parts of town as well as the larger Kuala Muda district have reached “very unhealthy” levels despite official numbers showing moderate air quality.

Persatuan Tindakan Alam Sekitar SP (PTAS) pinned the blame for this on some 50 illegal recycling factories in the district which it said have been burning plastic waste in their compounds.

PTAS medical adviser Dr Sunny Tneoh told FMT that round-the-clock checks by members using the latest air quality monitoring equipment showed the air pollutant index (API) at 164 on a PM2.5 scale, which is classified as “unhealthy”.

PM10 numbers meanwhile hit a whopping 232 on the API, which is also considered unhealthy. The API reading by the Department of Environment (DoE) on the same day, June 6, was 53 on a PM2.5 scale. PM10 readings were not available.

An API reading of 101 to 200 is classified as “unhealthy” while numbers of between 201 and 300 are “very unhealthy”. Readings of 51 to 100 are considered “moderate” while 0 to 50 is considered “good”.

PM2.5 are fine particles measuring 3% of a human hair which can enter the circulatory system. They have been closely linked to heart attacks and can trigger asthma and respiratory problems, according to a Journal of the American Medical Association study.

PM10 are slightly larger than PM2.5 particles, but high concentrations can also result in respiratory problems such as bronchitis and high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes and premature death.

Tneoh said many Sungai Petani residents had complained of difficulty sleeping due to the smell of “burnt PVC, wires and short circuits” for the past six months.

This was based on feedback received on PTAS’ Facebook account as well as WhatsApp and WeChat groups over the period, he said.

Tneoh claimed the air quality in the area had been deteriorating since late last year, with many residents noting soot residue on their porches.

Unconvinced by the DoE’s results, he said, a PTAS member had purchased a German-made API monitor.

Several samples of air quality were then taken near factories, especially those that had been ordered to close for not having a permit.

PTAS medical adviser Dr Sunny Tneoh.

Tneoh said PTAS members found that these factories, all in the larger Sungai Petani area, had continued operating as well as burning plastic waste. He also said they had video evidence of this.

He said tests by PTAS also showed that the air quality was always close to 100 on the API regardless of location.

He claimed repeated complaints to the DoE as well as the Kedah government and Sungai Petani Municipal Council (MPSPK) had yielded no results.

“We know that over 20 factories that have been keeping unwanted plastic waste in their compounds have been sealed by MPSPK.

“The question we have is this: how are these factories still operating and burning waste in the open? Why isn’t the DoE or the environment minister here to have a look?

“We have tried so hard to speak to all sides, but there has been no concrete action. Why won’t they get a court order to cut their power and water supply, at least?” he said.

FMT recently reported the discovery of a large dumpsite for plastic waste in Sungai Petani, with waste from Europe and Pakistan scattered in a jungle clearing and set alight by scavengers looking to sell metal bits.

The Kedah government cleared the site, reportedly billing the landowner for it while vowing to eradicate illegal plastic waste plants.

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamarudin said at the time that there were only five plastic recycling factories operating legally in the MPSPK jurisdiction, with 21 others sealed by the council.

FMT has contacted Kedah Environment Committee chairman Simon Ooi for comment and is awaiting a reply.

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...-in-kedah-town/
