SHAH ALAM, July 4 — Police have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting two 15‑year‑old male college students in separate incidents here.

According to Bernama, Shah Alam police chief ACP Sarudin Samah said the suspect, a local man in his 30s with a previous criminal record involving child sexual offences, was picked up at a restaurant in Shah Alam at 12.01am today.

The victims, both enrolled at a college in the Glenmarie area, lodged reports yesterday alleging they were assaulted by an individual believed to be an employee of the institution.

“The first victim alleged he was molested in the restroom of the college dormitory, while the second claimed he was sodomised at the suspect’s house in Section 18, Shah Alam,” Sarudin said in a statement to Bernama.

CCP fired missile in nuclear free Pacific zone

China has launched a ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean, in a show of naval power that drew condemnation from several countries and stoked concerns in a region where Beijing is increasingly projecting its might.

The People’s Liberation Navy on Monday fired a missile carrying a dummy warhead from a nuclear submarine “into the high seas of the Pacific Ocean”, state media said, without providing details of the exact launch or landing sites.

It said the missile launch, its first such test since 2024, was a “routine part of China’s annual military training programme and relevant countries had been notified in advance”.

The launch was “in accordance with international law and practice and is not directed against any specific country or target”, China’s state news agency Xinhua said.

New Zealand said the missile landed in the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone, which encompasses Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific islands and prohibits the use, testing and possession of the weapons within its boundaries.

The nuclear-free zone was established in 1985 by the Treaty of Rarotonga. China in 1987 signed parts of the treaty, which does not cover missile tests.

Pacific nations have long been isolated from Asian military conflicts and competition because of their remote locations. But China has increasingly projected its power into the Pacific through its growing naval force. Last year, a Chinese task group of two warships and a supply vessel travelled within 150 nautical miles of Sydney.

Penny Wong, Australia’s foreign minister, confirmed that China had informed governments in advance of Monday’s test but added that Beijing’s escalating military activity was “destabilising to the region”.

The missile launch came “in the context of a rapid military build-up by China, which is lacking in the transparency and reassurance as to intent that the region expects”, she told reporters in Fiji, where Australia signed a defence pact on Monday.

Winston Peters, New Zealand’s foreign minister, said the test was “an unwelcome and concerning development” that went against the objectives of the Treaty of Rarotonga. He added that Wellington and its Pacific partners “do not want to see the region become a theatre for outside military competition”.

In Japan, which is locked in a protracted diplomatic row with China, unnamed officials told local media that Tokyo had been warned that “space debris” could fall into an area of water that potentially included Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Small islands to the east and south of the Japanese mainland extend the country’s EEZ about 2,000km into the Pacific in some places.

Japanese officials confirmed that the government had “strongly urged” China to reconsider the test.

The Japanese foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment following the launch, but government sources told Kyodo News that the missile had landed outside Japan’s EEZ.

The missile test came hours after Australia and Fiji signed the Ocean of Peace Alliance, a defence and military pact. China, the US and Australia have sought to strike agreements with small Pacific island nations in recent years as competition for influence in the strategic region has increased.

A change of government this year in the Solomon Islands — a key Chinese Pacific ally — has triggered discussion among smaller islands over a broader regional defence pact. Matthew Wale, the new Solomons’ prime minister, has said there is “growing consensus” on the need for such a pact.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — The woman who was found stuffed inside a suitcase in an apartment in Kajang, Selangor, died after being slashed in the head, police said today.

Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the post-mortem was completed yesterday evening and confirmed that the victim’s body was found intact, according to Free Malaysia Today.

“The apartment where the victim was discovered had been rented to a foreign couple since February,” he said in a statement.

Naazron urged members of the public with information on the case, or those with missing family members or workers, to contact investigating officer Nur Ayuni Abd Aziz to assist in the murder investigation.

A foul smell coming from the unit led to the discovery of the body two days ago.

Police later found the victim stuffed inside a suitcase in the living room.

The victim’s identity and nationality have not yet been established as no identification documents were found.

BATU PAHAT: A 17-year-old student pleaded guilty in the magistrate's court here today to two charges of insulting the modesty of and committing an act of gross indecency against his mother.

According to the facts of the case, the teenager allegedly exposed himself to his 43-year-old mother and made an indecent request at their home on June 1, prompting her to lodge a police report.

The accused entered the plea after both charges were read in Mandarin before magistrate Arun Noval Dass.

Under the first charge, the teenager was accused of insulting the modesty of his 43-year-old mother by making an indecent request at a house in the district around 5pm on June 1.

The offence was framed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to five years, a fine, or both.

For the second charge, he was accused of committing an act of gross indecency against the same woman at the same location and time.

The charge was framed under Section 377D of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by Tan Song Yan from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).

According to the facts of the case, the accused approached his mother while she was in the bathroom and asked her to open the door.

After she did so, he allegedly exposed himself and made an indecent request. The woman subsequently lodged a police report.

Following the guilty plea, the court fixed Aug 19 for the presentation of a social report by the Social Welfare Department, the facts of the case and sentencing.

The court allowed bail at RM1,500. However, the accused failed to post bail and was remanded at the Muar Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — A male teacher pleaded not guilty at the Ampang Sessions Court to two charges of committing physical sexual assault against a female pupil last month.

Mohd Saufi Jama’in, 45, is accused of committing the acts against a nine-year-old girl, with whom the accused had a relationship of trust as her English teacher.

The offence was allegedly committed at the teacher’s dining area in a school canteen near here at 9am on May 5 and May 7.

He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16 of the same Act.

The offence is punishable by a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and caning, while Section 16 carries an additional penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment and no less than two strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Hairuliqram Hairuddin offered bail of RM20,000 with one surety for both charges, along with additional conditions that the accused must report to the nearest police station once a month and refrain from contacting or disturbing the victim and tampering with witnesses.

The accused’s lawyer, Francis Pereira, requested bail of RM4,000 for each charge, citing that his client, who has worked as a teacher for nearly 20 years, supports four children and also suffers from hypertension.

IPOH, June 12 — Police have arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of raping his ex-girlfriend and the subsequent killing of her most recent partner in Perak Tengah.

Perak police chief Commissioner Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the suspect was detained at the Perlis Sentral Bus Terminal in Kangar at about 3.45pm yesterday following intelligence leads, The Star reported today.

“The rape and murder case has been solved with the arrest,” Alwi was quoted as saying.

He added that the suspect has been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, with investigations ongoing under Sections 302 and 376 of the Penal Code.

Section 302 is for murder while Section 376 is for rape and sexual assault.

Investigators believe the suspect had raped his ex-girlfriend, 25, after they met near a paddy field along Jalan Trans Perak here on June 9.

The woman later returned home, before her 29-year-old partner confronted the suspect early the next morning.

A confrontation ensued after the 29-year-old allegedly rammed the suspect’s vehicle during a car chase along Jalan Trans Perak.

According to Alwi, the suspect then stabbed the 29-year-old in the abdomen after both exited their vehicles, before fleeing the scene in the victim’s car.

The 29-year-old man was later found unconscious and pronounced dead at a clinic in Kampung Gajah.

Police also recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack, which was discarded in a dustbin in Kangar.

A sexagenarian from Batu Pahat, Johor, has been remanded by the police after admitting on video to raping his 13-year-old granddaughter

In a series of viral videos posted on Threads by his daughter-in-law the 67-year-old retiree admitted to committing the alleged acts to his distressed family.

He is alleged to have sexually assaulted his granddaughter last year while under his care in Batu Pahat.

The girl had been living with her grandfather following her parents' divorce. However, she later moved to a northern state to live with her mother in April 2025.

The case came to light after the teenager recently disclosed the incident to her mother.

The mother initially grew suspicious after discovering messages the teenager had sent to an acquaintance
Although the girl was initially reluctant, she later confided that she had been assaulted by her grandfather.

The mother then lodged a police report on 8 June after confronting the suspect at her home. The suspect was subsequently arrested.

Initial police investigations found that the alleged incidents occurred throughout 2025, with the final assault taking place in December 2025/

Magistrate Arun Noval Dass granted a six-day remand order at the Batu Pahat Magistrate's Court yesterday, 10 June.

According to the New Straits Times, the suspect is being investigated under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.

The mother later shared an update on Threads, stating that her daughter is safe and receiving medical attention.

The mother expressed shock, anger, and deep emotional distress over the incident
"We are still at the hospital and my child is in a calm state," the mother wrote, apologising for her visible anger in the viral videos.

She clarified that her reaction stemmed from frustration as her child was initially too afraid to speak up.
