Intan Najuwa: Outrage over exposed mid-riff

Intan Najuwa gets flak for not covering up

ACTRESS Intan Najuwa (pic) has been reprimanded online for exposing her midriff in a video she posted on Instagram, Kosmo! reported.

Social media users felt the outfit was inappropriate, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

In the video, she was seen wearing a nude colour crop top paired with a bright pink outerwear.

One of her followers expressed concern and said: “Cover up your abdomen in this fasting month.”

Another netizen, who claimed to be her fan, hoped Intan Najuwa would keep her aurat (parts of the body that should not be exposed) covered.

Intan Najuwa was also criticised for uploading photos without wearing a face mask.

Social distancing rules to be scrapped from June 21
Pubs, restaurants and theatres can open fully from June 21 but mask rules will remain

The “one metre-plus” social distancing rule will be scrapped from June 21 under plans to ensure that all restaurants, pubs, theatres and cinemas can reopen fully, The Times understands.

Masks will have to be worn in some cases to mitigate the risks but it will mean venues can reopen at full capacity for the first time in 15 months.

Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary, confirmed yesterday that some coronavirus restrictions would remain beyond June 21, causing concern in hospitality. He said “conditions, counteracts and safeguards” would have to stay, adding: “They’ll be something around masks.”

Covid-19: Opt-in for AstraZeneca vaccine to be extended to whole of Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA: The opt-in programme for the AstraZeneca (AZ) Covid-19 vaccine will be extended to more people in Malaysia as the government expects at least 1.1 million more doses to arrive this month.

Khairy Jamaluddin, the coordinating minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, said the government would look to reach out to those who lack access to the Internet, as well as beyond states beyond Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Disney+ coming, but will Astro charge toll?

Astro, TM to announce partnerships with Disney+?

KUALA LUMPUR (May 3): Hot on the heels of news that Disney is pulling out its TV channels in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, including Malaysia, market talk is rife that Disney+ is coming to Malaysian shores very soon.

It is speculated that besides setting up its own platform here, the streaming provider will also have working relationships with platforms such as Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd and Telekom Malaysia Bhd ™.

When asked if TM is going to partner with Disney for the latter’s streaming service, the group replied: “We applaud Disney’s decision to move into the OTT (over-the-top) space. We live in a time that high quality broadband has enabled us to access a wide, rich, universe of entertainment that is ever-expanding.

“As the nation’s primary provider of home broadband, Unifi will ensure that all our customers will continue to enjoy quality content on Unifi TV that meets their entertainment needs,” said TM in a text reply to The Edge.

Astro, when contacted on this, said: “Please wait for (the) official announcement.”

Several industry sources have said Astro is working towards a partnership with OTT streaming services Disney+ to have its streaming content on its platform.

"As a result of this, Astro subscribers will have access to more content from streaming partners," a source told The Edge.

Astro already has some content from streaming players on its platform namely US’ HBO Go and China’s iQIYI.

An industry observer commented: "It looks like Astro is attempting to be best in the streaming game by using its own platform to be an aggregator for streaming giants.”

Astro’s CEO Henry Tan had told The Edge in an interview last year that Astro’s “OTT offerings will double or even triple by this year” without confirming or denying in that interview whether the offerings will include big names of OTT players like Disney+.

“There will be many options and OTT [players] will have to compete among themselves too. In that kind of situation, being a standalone OTT may not be so attractive and partnerships become important. I think a lot of OTTs recognise that partnering with us would be a good option: We have a ready customer base, local content and a marketing and sales distribution platform,” said Tan.

The CEO pointed out that the barrier for international OTT players in the country is the challenge of catering for a diversified audience base.

“In Malaysia, the content consumption mix is very ‘rojak’, meaning people want international, local and a mixed bag of other content. And the best solution is to combine the international and local; and our local content, distribution and ready customer base make us a very attractive partner,” Tan added.

Fast forward to this year, CGS-CIMB Research in a report last month noted that Astro is looking to aggregate five or six subscription-based video-on-demand (SVOD) services by end-FY1/22F, and another five or six in FY1/23F.

The April 22 report said that this was revealed by Astro’s Tan in an interview with regional trade journal ContentAsia.

“Although Tan was tight-lipped on which third-party SVOD services will join Astro in the latter’s effort to become a super SVOD aggregator, ContentAsia mentioned The Walt Disney Co’s Disney+ or Disney+ Hotstar, Netflix Inc’s streaming juggernaut, and perhaps Discovery Inc’s Discovery+ as the likely contenders."

There will be more OTT application offerings available to Astro subscribers as more of its long-time partners launch their individual platforms.

According to a CNA report last week, The Walt Disney Company said it is "consolidating its Media Networks business primarily in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong", as part of the company's "global effort to pivot towards a direct-to-consumer-first model and further grow" its streaming services.

Since its launch in November 2019, Disney+ has signed up more than 100 million subscribers to its streaming platform and has steadily expanded the geographical coverage if its service to 59 countries around the world including North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America.When asked if TM is going to partner with Disney for the latter’s streaming service, the group replied: “We applaud Disney’s decision to move into the OTT (over-the-top) space. Thailand approves 8 vaccines for foreign travellers

Thailand has approved a list of eight Covid-19 vaccine-makers, including Sinovac Biotech Ltd. and Pfizer Inc., for foreign visitors seeking to shorten a mandatory quarantine on arrival.

Visitors to Thailand will need to upload copies of the vaccination certificates on the website of the nation’s Foreign Ministry prior to arrival to reduce the quarantine period to seven days. Those without vaccinations will still need to undergo 10 days of isolation and visitors from countries including South Africa will be subject to two-week quarantine.

The list of approved vaccine-makers are Sinovac, AstraZeneca , SK Bioscience, Pfizer, BioNTech SE, Serum Institute of India, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Sinopharm Group.

Thailand is betting on a return of foreign visitors to rescue its economy from its worst performance in more than two decades. The nation, famous for its palm-fringed beaches, temples and backpacker culture, shortened the quarantine this month after the requirement was seen as the biggest hurdle to potential travellers. Phuket, an resort island, is also working to completely waive the quarantine from July for vaccinated tourists.

Foreign visitors will still need to present a certificate of entry, a valid visa, health insurance, Covid-19 test results along with their vaccine certificate, according to the Foreign Ministry rules. Those seeking shorter quarantine should have taken their shots no less than 14 days before travel date.

Missing Indonesian submarine has 72 hours left

Indonesia has about 72 hours left to rescue 53 crew members of a missing navy submarine before they run out of oxygen, the navy said.

The KRI Nanggala-402 vessel is thought to have disappeared about 60 miles (100km) off the coast of Bali early on Wednesday morning.

Six warships, a helicopter and 400 people are involved in the search.

Singapore and Malaysia have dispatched ships, and the US, Australia, France, and Germany have offered assistance.
The German-built submarine had been conducting a drill but failed to report back and contact was lost, the navy said.
"We know the area but it's quite deep," First Admiral Julius Widjojono told the AFP news agency.

Some reports said contact was lost with the submarine after it was given clearance to dive into deeper waters.
Meanwhile, an oil spill found near where the submarine dived could point to fuel tank damage, or could also be a signal from the crew, the navy said.

The missing vessel is one of five submarines operated by Indonesia. It was made in the late 1970s, and underwent a two-year refit in South Korea that was completed in 2012.

A navy spokesman told the BBC the incident was the first time Indonesia had lost one of its submarines. But similar incidents have happened elsewhere. In 2017, an Argentine military submarine went missing in the southern Atlantic with 44 crew on board.

Its wreck was located a year later and officials said that the submarine had imploded.
