Do you think force diversity in workplace.

Here's a situation in my friend's company, we just have a discussion on it.

One of the department of his company is dominated by race A and Male. Management see it like they are not being diverse enough and ask them to hire more Females or other races. Saying whenever clients come to office, got comment why that department only Male from Race A.

The issue is most of the people who applied job for the department is Male and from race A. Got Female applied before and other races but some how they failed the interview test.

The interview test is not sexist or racist in anyway. It's a technical position and you need to know the basic of the field in other to get hired, if you fail the basic you are not qualified for the job. For example, if you applied for a cook position but you don't know how to fry egg, of cuz you fail la. If you are a Female or from other races and passes the test , the department is willingly happy to accept you.

Then the management ask the department to lower the entry requirement for certain race / gender. The department rejected the idea saying that they are already undermanned and adding unqualified people to the team will drag them down even more. In addition, the department don't have time and resources to train new "unqualified" people.

Do you think the department's action is justified ?

Hi, I know a child by Muslim parent is automatically a Muslim in Malaysia. Does this applied for adoption ?

Let's say someone found a baby near a dumpster. The child looks like a Chinese. A Chinese couple adopted the baby and practice Christianity. The baby grew up and got married and have 3 kids.

Let's say after 39 years. The parent of the baby was identified and they are Muslims. How would be baby situation be ? Will the baby (and his child) be forced to Islam after 39 years of Christianity ? Or he can live the life he currently have.

Firing/Punishing someone due to being racist.

Hi, I know in other countries especially in western countries you can be punished for being anti-Semites.

But if in Malaysia, can we do it ?

Recently my workplace got some commotion but luckily all handled peacefully. We are supporting a project in US, we usually contact with let's say James who is a Chinese-decent. James got into a car accident and was hospitalized and Bob replace him who is a Jewish-decent.

Unfortunately one of our team member who is handling an important part of the project refuses to work with Bob because he is a Jew (He never worked with a Jew before) , management said you either work with him or you need to teach another person who will work with Bob after work and your incentive will be removed for the month. Our company got an incentive if you finish your project in time you will get a small "bonus" pay. He said yes to teach another person to handle it and the problem solved.

I wonder, let's say this keep repeating, can we fire the work for not refusing to work efficiently and being racist in a sense. Just scare social media will viral this out of control and affect the company image.

PRC clients 'offended' by things.

My company have a policy where you can bring in your kids if there is no one to take care at home. Got one time my colleague kid was wearing a Winnie the Pooh costume with a balloon with number 2 (representing her age) Her kindergarten was having a birthday party for her and the theme was cartoon character.

At the same time got one PRC client came into the office for a meeting and saw the kid, the Client said he don't like the way she (the kid) dress. Luckily it's almost go back time and the boss tell her she can go back early. This is a very important client.

Anyone experience this before ? Like local companies begin to lick China boots ? The recent Blizzard incident brings back my memory of this incident.

Thief steels dangerous broken electronics.

Hi, went back hometown for the long weekend and found out my small workshop padlock is broken. Might not be someone break it as the heavy rain recently might caused it since the lock is old. Nothing was stolen.

This raise a question, inside the workshop is a few electrical components where people gave us to dispose of and we try to fix it and sell/re-use it. The problem some of them are in very bad condition and the live wire is exposed. We use high voltage gloves and necessary safety precautions when working with these equipment.

The question is let's say a thief break in into my workshop, and stole a defective TV. Thief plugged it into his mains and proceed to die from electrical shock. I have CCTV footage of the thief broke in and stole my defective TV. Will I be held accountable if the TV is traced back to me ? Can the dead thief family sue me for his death ?

It's it legal to set up tent and mismatch curtains

Few months ago I've been harassed by some neighbors who trying to sell their house.

My grandfather have some mental health issue and he keep getting angry and restless and scold the family for no reason until he discover gardening at night (he said he don't want morning and evening because too hot). For some reason now he like to tend to the plant at night and watch the stars, he even brought a telescope and begin learning astronomy. So now he set up tent outside the house (still within our property) and sleep there at night. Two tents, one for his tool, one for him.His body is usually weak after planting and too tired to climb stairs to go up sleep (ground floor no place to sleep). When it rains lagi he want to sleep outside because the sound of rain hitting the tent relaxes him.

After his sudden interest in gardening and astronomy , he began to be more nicer to the family less angry and even begin to become back his own self (always laughing and make jokes).

We have two windows facing the street where the curtains one is Pink and one is Black in color. Grandfather decide one, we change he angry . It dint affect us so we just maintain it

Then one day one person come and complaint and said we are not allowed to put up tent because it make the house "dirty" and affect the value of the surrounding house. Also mismatched curtain will annoying and affect people with OCD and thus reduce value of surrounding house. The person keep telling us and even one time threaten legal action if we don't tear down the tent or deal with out curtains.

The person managed to sell the house and no longer kacau us. It happened months ago and suddenly come back to my mind...I know the legal threat is mostly not true but legal things is complicated sometime. Can the person really take legal action because of my tents and curtains ?

Smoke break more acceptable then fresh air break ?

Anyone experienced when people ask for a smoke break people usually don't care but when you say you want to take fresh air break people will see you weird.

Heard some experience from my friends where when their colleague tell boss they going smoking break, boss ok. When people ask want go take fresh air break walk around want de-stress abit...boss usually said no.

Also when ask management to have a dedicated smoking area, ok. Ask for a non-smoking area...drag for long time.

And when in social gathering when you say you want to take a fresh air break, people think you are disrespecting the host and want go away...smoking break no issue.

Motocycle in pedestrian walkway.

Just encounter one incident, one old uncle was walking in the pedestrian walkway and suddenly he stopped and tie his shoe laces. One sohai motocycle used the walkway and almost bang the poor uncle....and got the balls to yelled to the uncle "Ini jalan you punya ke ?"...

If there is an accident there, 100% motorcyclist fault right ? Anyone encountered similar incidents before ?

I realized in the place I am renting now (apartment) If I put a CCTV pointing the road ahead of me, I can record the number plates of cars making illegal u-turn. Was thinking of doing some community service by sending it to JPJ.

Is this legal in the 1st place ?

Functional Depression

I think I have functional depression, I do well in my work, exercise (jogging) at least 30 minutes a day 4 times a week but still feeling suicidal and sad most of the time.

I have barely have any social life and I tried so hard to have one ever since after high school, people seems to avoid me for some reason. I'm like something you want from a store but don't want to buy.

I tried to be a good person and be helpful to people but for some reason people don't want to be associated with me after the help. Like let's say I fixed someone bicycle, in social media they will mentioned a "friend" helped them and refused to mentioned my name. Once I accompany someone to bank since no parking I wait in car if need to move the car, someone in a WhatApps group asked who accompany you to the bank , he replied a "friend" and don't want to mention my name. Idk their actual reason buy maybe I am "different" ? I don't play DOTA, watch GOT, listen to K-pop, everyone from my race plays basketball while I play football, I don't watch porn, I dont like bubble tea...so I am like the one within my peers who have completely different interest with everyone else.

I used to drink and smoke to release stress but it hurt my wallet and health, so I tried other thing to cope, which is crying. Sometimes I cannot tahan and cried in public and people begin to avoid me and gossip behind me as "mental" or "crazy" while those who drink and smoke to release stress people "pity" and show "compassion" to them.

I also realized if you are "popular" or have social value especially in college, people will stick with them no matter they are right or wrong. For example, I played alot of football during uni time but not really good. So I always get at the end of "The Roulette" by the more popular guys, when they do it, people say they are pro and skillful. When I managed to do it once in a bluemoon againts the "popular" person, they say I am arrogance and want to humiliate the "popular" person.

Got one popular person disliked me because I roulette him twice....I assumed if you get rouletted by a nerd skinny guy twice is humiliating. Everytime if there is an outing with him around, my uni peers will not invite me fearing to "anger" the "popular" guy. This means I rarely able to hangout with them as he is 90% involved. And as stated, they also don't want to be seen as the "friend" of the guy who make the "popular" guy angry...so if they need help they need to do secretly and avoid posting in social media.

Thus, I am alone most of the time and begin to talk to myself, I found a new group to try to make friends. The topic was how to gain confident. One guy said he talked to the mirror to gain confidence, when I said I talk to myself to gain confidence....as usual people think I am a creep and a weirdo and avoid me. It was never in my mind that statement will cause people to feel negative towards me.

Now I am prone to panic attack and anxious when socializing because in my mind, one wrong word or I offend the leader of a group. I am done for.

Any advice ?

Basikal Nyamuk + Small Kids

Hello, I need some advice in protecting myself in case of an accident happen. My temporary work area (kampung) there is a lot of kids with those low-height bicycles, I think it is called "basikal nyamuk". There is a long straight with a traffic light at the end and these kids will rarely stop for the traffic light and just go straight even if it is red because it is downhill and there is rarely car in the traffic light area .

I've brought a dash cam facing the rear for the situation where they hit me. I have once got shouted by those kids because I stopped for the traffic light and disturbed their "momentum" because they need to slow down because of me.

Here's some question.

1. If they hit at the back of my car and got injured or killed while my car is stationary and the traffic light is "RED", I should be free from the law right ? Because I don't want to risk my life for ignoring red lights because they are coming/racing.

2. Why the parents seems to don't care about their kids riding dangerously, even I got scolded with no proof, when I show my dashcam footage, they threaten to sue me if the footage appear in Youtube/FB..
