Car Theft Database

Hi guys and gals,

I haven't come across anything in any local forums that consolidate useful data on cars that were stolen/hijacked. Am wondering if having this database would perhaps enable the rest of us who have been lucky thus far, to lessen the odds of being targeted for theft. If we can somehow derive certain patterns on the basterds' modus operandi or the types of cars and favorite locations, maybe it will make us more aware of where/how we park and secure our beloved rides. I'll start.

MAKE/MODEL: Honda CRV
YEAR: 2009
COLOR: Black
SECURITY MEASURES TAKEN: OEM Immobiliser, steering lock, sandblasted windscreen
EXTERNAL MODS: None
INTERIOR MODS: None
LOCATION OF THEFT: Inside house compound, locked autogate
TIME OF THEFT DISCOVERY: 8:00am

Thanks for reading and hope you can participate

Caltex SS14 Con Job! Beware!

Anyone who pumps Caltex, especially in Subang area, pls avoid the Caltex SS14/1 outlet. I just came back from there being cheated at least RM18 extra for a full tank. Normally, my full tank can only accept at the most 42 litres when the tank is almost dry, and typically only about 40 litres plus-minus.

Imagine my shock when the bill came up to more than RM123 for 47litres of RON92! KNNCCB. My car's fuel tank is only 42 litres as stated in the manual, and even if I fill up to the brim it will only ever hit 44 litres. And at the time of fueling up I still had at least 5 litres in the tank (light hasn't come on yet).

In other words, I expected to pump around 40 litres up to the brim, in fact should be slightly less since I normally pump when the light comes on.

I will call the blardy Caltex ppl tmw and demand an explanation, since a discrepancy of 7 litres for every 40 litres is 17.5%!!!

It's already bad enuff that petrol is blardy expensive, summore got this kind of con job going on. So buyers beware!

Help! I suspect my one month old Enermax Infinity 650W PSU is acting up. When in standby mode, the red LED protection light is lit but there is no buzzing sound. According to the manual, if the red LED is on with an accompanying buzzing sound, then a problem is present. But in my case the light is on without the alarm.
Hey moderators, you've been doing a great job making sure this site stays healthy and productive. I have a minor suggestion to make your lives easier and to cut down on bandwidth. For instance, instead of having to constantly remind countless posters to add their WTS/WTB/WTT whatever, why not include the command in the posting page, that if no tag is added then the post cannot be accepted? Just like when we don't include a topic title, we are not allowed to proceed.

Thanks for reading and keep up the good work!

Cheers,
Greg

Lightning Protection

Hi,

Would like to check with you all regarding lightning protection. I know that lightning arrestors and voltage regulators etc have their limitations, i.e., they don't offer failsafe protection for all lightning conditions.

But what if I used a few stages of lightning protection? Would that help soften the blow in the event of a major lightning strike? Example, if I used a multi-way AC socket that comes with lightning protection, then hook up another lightning protected AC socket before hooking up to a UPS. Will that help?

I don't know if this sort of question has been asked before, I'm beginning to worry about it since my old rig, LAN switch, ADSL modem, Astro decoder, 29" TV, DVD player and auto gate got fried once last year during an exceptionally heavy thunderstorm.

After having replaced all the above with another P4 system and recently upgrading to a C2D system with 22" LCD, near future plans to get an 8800GTX, I'm just worried that my new rig may suffer the same fate should another freak thunderstorm hit my area. My area here in USJ is quite prone to heavy rain

Can anyone share their experiences about the above?

Cheers.

Dear sifus,

I'm having a slight prob with my rig. Sometimes when I run my cpu at max (according to Speedfan) one of my S-ATA HDD will suddenly stop working. It will startup again when I reboot. This happens when I'm running a photo editing program that batch opens hundreds of RAW photos (one at a time) from one drive and saves it in JPEG into the one that does the disappearing act.

My rig:

Case - Tsunami ATX tower
PSU - Cooler Master 450W Real Power
CPU - P4 3.0 HT (Prescott) S478 with Zalman CNPS9500 LED cooler
Mobo - Asus P4P800X, 800Mhz FSB
RAM - Kingston Hyper X 2*512MB PC2700 DDR, dual channel
AGP - Galaxy Geforce 7600 GS 256MB
HDD - Seagate 160GB 8MB (Sata), Seagate 320GB 16MB (Sata) and WD 300GB 8MB (IDE)
OD - Lite-On DVD-RW 16X
Misc - 6 cooling fans of various sizes

I enquired with a shop and he suspects that I might be having a power supply problem. My question is, with a CM 450W Real Power, how many peripherals am I able to run without problems? Am I overloading the PSU with my current system, and should I upgrade to a better PSU? If so, what PSU would you recommend?

Cheers.
