So i t is that time of the year in which i would like to use this as an opportunity to wish all fellows who are celebrating Christmas a Merry Christmas and to the rest a Happy New Year.

Anyone started writing down their goals for 2020 ?

Reflection of 2019,

a. What went right

- Decent career progress.
- Joined the board of 2 start up's in Europe in which the potentials of the business is huge.
- Hit my net worth that i wanted for the year.
- Re-calibrated my investment portfolio and adjusted my allocations to certain sectors that i wanted to be overweight on.
- Managed to widen my network of peers and met a few prominent people.
- In relation to self-development, managed to read the number of books that i wanted for the year.
- Had a good run in Gambling at Genting for the past 1 week.
- Managed to play golf on one of the Pro-Am Days in Europe.
- Would be making a fat donation to the WWF (Just transferred my donation to them last week) - Always had a passion for big cats and would support any initiatives that promotes the conservation of these beautiful creatures.
- Bought 2 cars that i always wanted.
- Did 5 half marathons and 1 full marathon (The timing for the full marathon wasn't good though).
- Started volunteering more.

b. What went wrong / What i didn't achieve
-Didn't manage to reduce my body fat% and infact went up by 2%.
-Didn't get to travel to the countries that i wanted to visit (especially China).
-Wanted to buy a particular commercial prop in UK but sadly couldn't afford to fork out the asking price (Screw BREXIT but the location of this Commercial Prop was at the right place and despite the slowdown or whatevr you call it, this property would yield nicely in the long run).
- Supposed to have taken up an Executive Education Programme with one of the business school in The States for a few weeks but couldn't make it due to work commitments. Would look forward in attending it next year.
- Wanted to watch a live football match / tennis match.

(Inb4 humbugs and nincompoops like [@AllnGap] and [@fun_feng] get offended and upset about their achievements in life

Just Reached Genting's Casino

Went up with the mrs and her family to Genting's Sky Casino and it looks pretty good. Never been to this casino ever since it opened.

Attended 3 Deepavli Open houses

Glad to have attended 3 open houses yesterday.

Experience 1
One was hosted by an old school mate of mine. Studied with him till i was around year 4 or so and then lost contact with him and only reconnected after a few years. Food was great as everything was home cooked by his wife, mother and mother in law.

Had a traditional banana meal platter which was seved with over 9 side dishes (6 veggies + 3 other meats (chicken curry, mutton gravy and grilled + stir-fried prawns)

Took my parents and the Mrs along for this open house as my parents knew my friends parents.

Experience 2
The second outing was hosted by an ex boss of mine who is close to 60yrs old who i worked with for almost 5 years. Great chap who i looked up to and learn a lot from him when i initially joined the industry.

Food was also great and spoke a lot of topics ranging from work related topics to politics.

Loved eating the murukku and a few other delicacies which were prepared.

Experience 3
Attended this outing with the Mrs. The open house was hosted by an old school mate of mine and someone who i have worked with for several months upon graduating from university.

Food was pretty good but definitely couldn't beat the 1st place that i visited. Met a few old colleagues who as usual were rubbing my ass hoping that i would bring them along with me

Inb4 Wee Seng aka [@Allngap] and [@fun_feng] doesn't believe this story and ask me for drillz.

Decided to Quit My Company

As per my previous threads, upon restructuring my current workplace, i have just tendered my resignation letter.

My morale of working with my current organization has just plunged over the past few weeks and when my former firm's called me back to join them, i knew i had to take it up.

Tendered my resignation this morning and would be joining back my previous organization with a better compensation package

Would be going on a garden leave for 3 month's as that is my firm's current policy.

Come give me some suggestions to do for the next 3 months.

Inb4 go and Cheong and that is not my cup of tea.

*How to deal with staffs who i hate but keep bugging me to pull them along ? No offence to the low performers

Just Got My Promotion

Had a meeting with our board and the top management and was off guardedly presented with my promotion. Hard work has paid off and i am glad that they recognise employees who perform though looking at the added responsibilities and strategy in repositioning our asset management division just makes me go

What would be a good present to get to gift myself for achieving my success in the corporate milestone. Apart from cars, already have 4 at home and wouldn't want another one. Need to buy something to celebrate my achievement and motivate me to work harder

Giving allowances to my parents

So being a good son, i have been providing my parents with a monthly allowance of close to SGD2,600/month.

Providing them with such an allowance isn't a big deal as they have helped raised me and spent a substantial amount of money on me in my education etc which i am fully glad off.

Now my dad is semi retired and his serving on a few board of companies as a means of using his time wisely.

It is safe to say that the allowance that I am giving them is useless in fact simply because my parents are able to sustain themselves but as i said, it is a moral obligation for me to look after them as i am fully thankful for the way they brought me up. (mom has been a home maker since i was born hence she has no savings and realises on my dad)

The issue that arises now is that my mom often splurges the money that i have been giving her for useless issues. If she is using the money to buy herself stuffs or anything i am totally fine but the issue here is that she often uses the money to buy her relatives stuffs and the thing that pissed me off recently is that i was just made aware that my mom has been paying one of her relatives kids education fund using the money that I have been giving her

To add salt to the wound, the relatives kid that she has been paying for has been taking her on a ride by asking for extra allowances claiming that he buys books etc but ends up spending the money on various entertainment purposes.

Now when i confronted my parents about it, she admitted that she has been helping to pay this kids education and claims that they aren't in a good financial situation hence they approached her for help.

How would one deal with such an issue ?

Feel like cutting off her allowances as she isn't using the cash for her or my dad.

Job Cut

Received a memo from the board saying that we had to reduce the number of headcount of people throughout the entire organization.

Was given the mandate to cut 15.5% of my staffs and after pondering, we managed to identify a few candidates to leave.

Messed up part was calling them to my room and conveying the bad news.

Feel pretty bad for a few of my close employees and the most that i could do for them was to recommend them to another ex-colleague of mine who is currently looking for people.

Bummed up part was we informed one of the chicks over here that she has to go as well and damn, she literally cried

Looks like the hardest part of my job is not about making money for the firm in this uncertain economic landscape but instead the pain of conveying such news.

FML.

*On a side note, board hinted that if i am able to continue growing my teams portfolio at the current rate, i may be promoted as the firm's new Deputy CEO which also makes me to be the youngest candidate to hold such a position!

*Board doesnt know that i am about to hand my letter in too next week as i have received a pretty good offer to join back my previous firm and have also another pending offer with one of our direct competitors

So after being ripped off for a tripod stand (https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=4815335&hl=), my wife needs a microphone that could be attached to her Macbook to record her lectures which would then be uploaded to the institutions portal.
