Dear Lowyaters,

I am shopping for the best deal for the HMC152 locally and SG.

Call today and got this quotation over the phone:

Malaysia

A) Keycolor, RM14K, got free bag
B) Bintang Maju HQ, RM13.5k

Singapore

C) Sensys Singapore Pte Ltd, 2 x class 10 16GGB SD card, 1 x additional large capacity battery and 1 x Kata soft carrying case and Edius Neo software at S$4900 before GST.

Q1) Please recommend other shops for me to check out locally or SG.

I read on a blog that Grace Tan went to SG, and purchased the HMC152 from Sensys Singapore Pte Ltd. It must had been a very good deal for that move.

Q2) I believe that there is no custom tax for video camera recorders. Is that true?

Q3) How about warranty issue? Is it honoured by Panasonic Malaysia? Or need to send back to SG?

A3) comes with a 3 years warranty but it is for Singapore only,any problem you will have to send the set back to Singapore

I have a Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce for 430EX. However, the Omni-Bounce absorbs to much flash power and does not work if the ceilling is too high and is not white in color.

So, ask your opinion, in a(an) wedding/event photography in a ballroom where the ceiling is too high and not white in color, what do you do to soften the flash?

Do you need a color gel to match the lightnings in the ballroom? or do you just shoot without any color gel?

Please check this site below. A creative photographer created a flash helmet with a flash gun and umbrella. Looks weird but it works and attracted alot people to shoot/film the photographer instead.

Cops raid shops selling stolen phones

KUALA LUMPUR: Cellphone shop owners, take note. If you are selling stolen phones, you had better clean up your act or the police will be coming after you.

Police raided five cellphone shops and a secondhand shop in the city here and recovered 294 cellphones believed to have been stolen either during snatch thefts or robberies.

HOT PHONES: ACP Kamal Pasha and some of the investigating officers looking at the stolen phones recovered from cellphone shops in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Kamal Pasha Jamal said the phones, with an estimated value of RM147,000, were recovered from shops located in the Central Market, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Silang, Jalan Hang Lekiu and Jalan Sultan.

"Police raided the shops after carrying out surveillance on them for almost a month and found that they were the ones most frequented by drug addicts," he said yesterday.

He added that seven men who were the shop owners, aged between 18 to 30, had been detained for further investigation after they failed to produce documents such as warranty cards for the phones.

"Although the phones look new, we believe they are stolen phones with new casings so that buyers will not suspect anything," he said at a press conference here.

ACP Kamal Pasha said initial investigations showed that drug addicts had sold the phones cheaply to the shops.

With so many shops selling stolen phones, how do you check if the phone is not stolen?

Are these enough?
1. Insist on warranty card and get it stamped by the shop?
2. Get the shop to produce a receipt with the IMEI number written on it?

I bought a phone from someone here from Lowyat.net. Checked the phone and warranty card with SE authorized service center, everything is okay except that the seller doesn't want to send a receipt. What is the seller's problem? The seller got a shop. Want to escape tax? It would be difficuilt for me to lelong the phone without a receipt from the seller.

I know that in some countries, if your phone got stolen, the phone can be blocked by all the phone operators in that country. All you need is the IMEI number. However, in Malaysia, it is not possible. So, is it possible for the stolen phones to be resoled. The shop who bought it just has to change the casing.
