Apple sues Samsung again in US

The Apple v. Samsung patent war that will seemingly never end has taken another turn today, as Apple is asking the court to add newer Samsung Galaxy hardware, including the Galaxy S III, Verizon Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 10.1 to its complaint against the Galaxy Nexus and other related devices. If you thought updated software and designs would keep these newer smartphones and tablets out of the fight -- you were wrong. Just to help you keep things straight, remember this is a separate case from the one that ended exactly a week ago with a decision in Apple's favor to the tune of more than $1 billion in damages.

At issue here are eight of Apple's utility patents that it says Samsung has infringed upon. The headliner patents at issue are '721 which covers slide to unlock, and '604, which covers the universal search feature Samsung has been pulling from its phones recently. Another familiar entry is the '647 patent Apple slapped HTC with in 2010, which has a vague description but applies to clicking on a phone number in an email, for example, to call it. You can read the details each and every one in the PDF linked below, we'll be doing... anything else.

Patents in question, slide to unlock, universal search feature, recognising phone numbers in email and converting them to hyperlinks.

My thoughts. If, and a very big if, Apple does indeed win this one, it will prove two things:

1. The US patent system is broken and needs a major overhaul.
2. This will cause a massive revolt against Apple amongst Android users in general. Might be able to stifle Samsung and essentially make Apple the only premium phone in the US in the short term. Could hurt their interests in the long term, as this is sort of a bad PR for Apple, suing over such trivial things.

I had an awesome dream last night

So last night I had an awesome dream in that Ipoh (my hometown) finally had its own tram network!! And then I woke up

So I was wondering since Ipoh clearly does not have the population density required to warrant a LRT/MRT network, wouldn't a tram network be more cost effective, in addition to generating more jobs for the local Ipoh community? (Drivers, engineers etc.)

I think the reason why I had this dream was that I was in Zurich, Switzerland at the end of last month, and I can finally see why it is ranked among the most livable cities in the world. Too bad living cost in Zurich is very expensive...

Their tram network is superb, not unlike Japanese Shinkansen, down to the minute in punctuality.

In what could be an anime fan's wildest dream —or an ordinary Japanese taxpayer's nightmare —come true, Japanese politicians are thinking of building a giant bipedal robots for civil defense, much like the famous mecha in the popular Gundam anime.

Politicians everywhere are crap—even the ones who are thinking about building a giant, working mecha. In an upcoming broadcast on Japanese video platform Nico Nico Live, members of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party are apparently going to discuss the idea of building a real life Gundam.

The life size Gundam below is just a prop btw, not a working one.

After reading this thread, I remembered one incident last year.

Last year (around September) when I wanna buy ticket for ETS from Ipoh to KL to apply for visa, since cant book online or through calling. (I called before but they say have to come buy at counter)

When I got to the train station, the place was really packed, but somehow no one was taking number slips from the machine. So I wandered over to the machine and found out that the power cord was unplugged. So I plugged it in and the machine started churning out number slips again. Some people then started flocking to the machine to get their number slips.

5 mins later, one lady went over to the machine and asked who plugged the power cord back in. She found out it was me, so came over to me and started berating me for plugging the cord back in. She said that there were too many people wanting to buy ticket that she unplugged the power cord. Something along the lines "Kau tak tahu ke banyak orang nak tiket ni, kita (the workers) tak de masa nak rehat tahu?"

Then she went and unplugged the cord again.

Fortunately there were someone my dad knows there who has an earlier number, so we asked her to buy for me.

This is so bloody ridiculous, she should be grateful I didnt decide to take it up to the management, else she kena fire already.

Little Japan in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Japanese investors plan to develop Malaysia's first "Little Japan" township in Taman Molek here for high net worth ethnic Japanese keen to relocate and make Malaysia their second home.

Global Asia Assets (M) Sdn Bhd (GAAM), an asset-building consulting company for Japanese investors, which is behind the project, hopes to woo 2,000 wealthy Japanese to live, work or do business here within the next few years.

GAAM chief executive officer Fujimura Masanori said since March last year, some 70 Japanese individuals had already relocated here under the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.

Additionally, 365 Japanese investors have also acquired high-end residential and commercial properties worth more than RM400mil here since January last year and are expected to also move here permanently soon.

"In view of the overwhelming response, we are eager to kick start the "Little Japan" project in Taman Molek where Japanese individuals are expected to invest over RM500mil in landed houses and luxury apartments over the next few years," said Fujimura.

Fukimura was talking to reporters at the Starhill Golf & Country Club in conjunction with a charity golf tournament in aid of the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami last year.

About 50 golfers, including 20-GAAM customers from Japan had flown here to take part in the event.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society for distribution to needy victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami on March 11 last year.

According to Fujimura, "Little Japan", the first of its kind in Malaysia, would be a self-contained township complete with restaurants, spas, medical facilities and retirement homes for Japanese who want to live and work here.

He noted that the Japanese, who have traditionally avoided investing outside of Japan, have enormous amounts of liquid assets lying dormant in Japanese banks.

Fujimura said the response was very positive with Japanese clients buying up 50 per cent of the 248 high-end condominium units in Molek Pine Tower 3 - a project by the Kuok Group subsidiary, Tanjung Bintang Sdn Bhd, which is marketed under the Berinda brand name.

"The developer, in view of the overwhelming response from Japanese buyers, will refit the units with special Japanese features such as Onsen-Spa facilities, Ofuro (Japanese bathtub) and Zen concept landscaping.

"Our clients have already committed over RM400 million in the purchase of units in various residential schemes in Taman Molek and Taman Ponderosa, which is yet another project by Berinda," he said, adding that GAAM will also manage the property on behalf of its clients.

"Johor Baru's proximity to Singapore, coupled with good infrastructure, fine weather, the Government's commitment to boost safety and security and the virtual absence of natural disasters like earthquakes, makes it an ideal place for Japanese to make it their second home," he said.

These residents, he added, would eventually also open Japanese convenience shops, fine restaurants, dental and medical clinics in partnership with locals, traditional medicine shops and even retirement homes catering not only to Japanese clients, but also Singaporeans and locals.

"They will help create jobs, provide skills training, help promote business and contribute to the local economy and the growth of Johor and Malaysia as a whole," he stressed.

Fujimura is confident the "Little Japan" project will take off in a big way because of rapid development in Johor under Iskandar Malaysia, with international schools and universities and top-notch health and medical facilities all opening here soon. BERNAMA

MKV Incorrect File Runtime

Well, here goes.

I have a .mkv file that supposedly has a runtime of 1:50.12, but KMPlayer reads the file's runtime as 14:58.18. After the original runtime mark, the screen turns black and the video stops. Dragging the seek bar beyond the original runtime mark, KMPlayer becomes unstable and it takes some time to close the program.

I don't think the problem lies within the decoder I used to decode the video (video stream codec: AVC, audio stream codec: AC3)
I can extract the audio and video streams from the container but I don't have any idea as to how to remove the extra bits of empty data after the original runtime. Anyone can help to fix this?

I hope someone has a clue as to how this happens and might be able to help me.

Well, recently I've started using foobar2000 to edit my mp3 tags. (artist, album etc.) When I pressed OK, the information I edited doesn't show up in Windows Explorer in detail view. (the field went blank)

Using v2.3 IDv2.

I've used iTunes to edit it before, works flawlessly with windows explorer.

How do I solve this?
