problem starting windows

i've problem in opening windows (7 pro 32 bit) . after the "starting windows.." screen, it will either show up a blank screen (black screen or no display) or a bsod (the video scheduler has encountered an unexpected error / atikmpag.sys). this problem started after i changed my gc from 4850 (broken edi) to the newly bought sapphire 5770. sometimes i may be able to open windows but it's kinda rare, like after 1/15 reboots then ok. gaming no problem also, very smooth no lag, just the problem now is starting windows. b4 this i bring the new 5770 to check at the service center (lowyat) and the guy there tested it and found no problem with it, no problem with starting windows whatsoever.
i've already formatted my pc a couple of times and even updated it. it seems that the problem only happen after i install ati gc driver (latest 10.9 also got problem)
so i think this is the single most weirdest problem i;ve ever encountered, any solution?

my pc spec:

windows 7 pro 32 bit (ori)
intel c2d e7400 (2.8 ghz)
kingston ddr2 2gb x2
1 tb hdd
gigabyte ga-ep43-ds3
sapphire 5770 vapor-x
cm extreme 500 watt.

Phone is different compared to before repair

Hi guys, I bought a Sony Ericsson W705 about a month ago and was very happy with it. It was really nice at first, it has a smooth video playback, good sound quality and a facebook application of which I found to be very useful (but it's in chinese language). I used it quite a while without hiccups for some time, that's until it crashed unexpectedly on one day. I tried everything I could to make it work back again, reinserting the battery etc. but to no avail. Only then I decided to repair my W705 by using the SE PC Suite, and thinking that I might also get an english version of the facebook app.

The process of repairing was smooth, I picked the correct model and so on but then I soon realised the software and overall condition of my W705 isn't the same as before

1) Firstly the layout changed quite a bit. Before this it has a tab like feature in Settings but now it's gone. I tried looking for options to enable back the tab but there's none. My Settings is now currently displayed in list style.

2) The video playback was smooth before (repair) but now has become somewhat laggier. The audio will went off and not sync to video if I rotate the display from (landscape to potrait and vice versa), this happens especially if I enable the auto-rotate function.

3) Cover art wont show beside the name of the album (Media\Music\Albums\). Usually there will be cover art beside in the long list of albums but now it only displays CD icon.

4) The sound quality isn't as good as before (or maybe it's just my feelings).

Please if anyone could tell me the possible reason and ways to get my hp back to its original state (behavior). I previously used an old polyphonic nokia hp so sorry if my post sounds n00b

Check mp3 file for consistency

Have you ever thought if your large mp3 collections are even in the best condition? Well there's a way to check it, that's by using MP3Utility (free) or Checkmate MP3 Checker (free).

MP3Utility Summary / Features
I have always wanted a utility that would help me (i) test the integrity of and (ii) catalog my collection of mp3 files. Not being able to find a suitable utility available, I decided to try my own hand at creating one. MP3Utility is the result of that effort, and it can do the following:
1) Display detailed information on just about any MPEG audio file (not just MPEG Version 1.0, Layer III files).
2) Test an MPEG audio file for synchronization (and other) errors.
3) Identify and process both Xing VBR and MusicMatch VBR files.
4) Intelligently parse and display those pesky leading IDV3v2 tags.
5) Batch test a directory of files, with the ability to move corrupted files to a pre-specified directory for further testing. Can also recursively test files in subdirectories under the top directory specified.
6) Generate a detailed audio catalog formatted for direct import into Microsoft Excel. This includes all the MPEG and Tag information displayed on the main screen (you can then use Excel for further formatting/sorting of the data).

Other MP3Utility features:
1) Written in Visual C++, which makes it small and fast (I can test a 4.0 MB file in about one second on my 450 MHz Pentium II).
2) The main screen is fully resizable so that you can make the Output Log as big as you want (one of the biggest complaints I had early on was that the Output Log was too small).
3) The utility provides detailed error messages that identify the frame, byte position and time position of synchronization errors.
4) All test output can be saved in a text file for later use.
5) Clean, readable output (It drives me nuts when people display large numbers without commas!)
6) Clean install/uninstall. The utility will unzip into it's own "mp3utility" directory and won't make any changes to the registry or any other system files. Also, MPUtility will not attempt to place icons/shortcuts on your Desktop, Start Menu, Quickstart Toolbar, System Tray, etc. To uninstall, simply delete the MP3Utility directory.
7) Uses standard Windows file access functions, so you can test files/directories located on remote computers (note, however, that LAN access may slow down MP3Utility as all files tested will need to be read across the LAN).
8) Supports drag-and-drop and right-click context menu selection from Windows Explorer.

How to use:
1) Pick funtion, in this demo we're going to check the whole folder of AAA - AROUND.

2) Load the folder.
3) Click 'Start' to begin scanning.

4) Faulty mp3 files will be listed below (with error description).

Link: http://www.geocities.com/mp3utility/

this is an another alternative for MP3Utility, it's called Checkmate MP3 Checker. It's purpose is still the same, not much difference except for a simpler looking and supports command line.

Checkmate MP3 Checker Summary / Features
Checkmate is a program that checks MP3 files for errors.

Checkmate is a set of programs that scan MP3s. It scans the file to see if the frames are where they are supposed to be, if the frame headers are correct and if the headers are consistent throughout the file. It gives some statistics on the file, and a conclusion whether the file is good or bad.

Checkmate mpck is the core that does the actual scanning. It can be used on the command line on both Linux and Windows.

Checkmate MP3 checker is a Microsoft Windows interface for mpck. It scans MP3 files and has a Explorer-like display which shows which files where scanned and what the result was. MP3 checker was tested on Windows 2000 and should work on any Windows version.

Both Checkmate mpck and Checkmate MP3 checker are licensed under the GNU General Public License, which gives you permission to modify and distribute the software as you like, as long as you include the source code.

How to use:
1) Open the folder you want to check for (mp3 integrity), in this case we're going to use the same folder as previous.

2) Highlight the mp3 files you want to scan for, right click and scan.

3) Done

Link: http://checkmate.linuxonly.nl/download.html

Enjoy the softwares

Hi, thinking of building a budget gaming pc, if can not more than RM 2000. Currently eyeing on this spec at pcdepot (no lowyat thanks cuz im in perak).

CPU : AM2 Athlon 6000+ X2 3.0GHz -------------------------------------------------------- 318
RAM : Kingston Hyper-X 1066 DDR2 NVD 2GB(2x1GB) ------------------------------------ 212
GC : Powercolor HD4850 --------------------------------------------------------------------- 595
HDD : 640GB 16M (CAVIAR SE16) ----------------------------------------------------------- 235
MOBO : Asus M3A78-EM (HDMI,Hybrid CF,1394) ----------------------------------------- 299
PSU : Cooler Master - Extreme Power Plus - Retail(500W) ------------------------------ 175
CASE : C/Master Hyper 212 CPU Cooler-Soc775 & AM2 ---------------------------------- 142

Download the pricelist here: http://www.zshare.net/download/52154395df81fa31/

Suggestion please? Would it make much difference if I choose KVR ram? Also would 500 Watt suffice cuz later on I will be adding 250 GB SATA and DVD/RW.
I think I'm on with the CPU and GC as above, other than those two can be negotiated to further reduce the cost.
Does brand rly shows much difference in perf?

So I had this friend who picked Winfast XFX 6600 GT 128 at a store here in Ipoh (yik fung) years back for a pretty cheap price. So back at home he experimented it with Asus 7760 GT 512 and he was shocked to know just how the Winfast 6600 performs better. I mean I'm shocked too and the 6600 could've been readily OC'd but how's that believable? He gave me a tips though, 'don't buy a mobo specialised GC manufacturer, buy a real GC specialised manufacturer GC'.

I'm no hardware expert, what's your opinion on this?

edit: move this wherever you think it's suitable cuz I think it's more of a discussion than question

In Ubuntu can surf, in XP can't

As stated in the title, this is so far the most weird problem I've ever come across in my entire life.
I sometimes can surf in Windows XP but most of the time I can't. Each time in the early startup I can get connection for a few seconds but then after a while (about a minute) it died (retry page appear). Weird thing is my torrent can still download/upload without any signs of connection problem even if such thing occur, I just couldn't surf. The same thing happen if I click repair, it just went off after a while. What irritates me the most is that I can't even open Firefox or IE if this problem happens. I need to pull out my usb network adapter (I'm on router) then only it can open.

The thing didn't happen in Ubuntu though .

Please if you guys can help me. I'm using KAV with firewall turned off. Oh yeah almost forgot, this problem also happen in other PC (living room pc) which is on the same router as mine .
