The double ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DACs and double ESS Sabre 9601K amps make balanced output possible via 2.5 mm output. The DP-X1 is the only player with such an advanced configuration, and the result is unprecedented power and control.

The DP-X1 also has two types of balanced drives: ACG and BTL, for greater stability and clean, crystal clear sound.

Balanced Drive Options

Balanced 2.5mm 4-pole output supports the more standard Balanced (BTL) drive as well as the more esoteric ACG (Active Control GND) drive.

ACG drive gives greater stability: increased S/N ratio; greater spatial dimensionality, and clean sound; greater deliniation for lower frequencies in hi-res audio, and overall robust and taut sound. BTL drive supplies increased power.

Power gains and increased sound separation associated with balanced output are repurposed to create increased stability for a clean signal and greater sound clarity, especially compared to unbalanced drive.

Hi-Res Heaven!

The DP-X1 was designed to support many audio formats. Maxing out at 11.2MHz DSD support, the DP-X1 also supports up to 384kHz/24-bit audio, with support for WAV, FLAC, ALAC, & AIFF.

With its 2.5mm 4-pole balanced output, 3.5mm 3-pole headphone jack, micro USB-B/OTG digital output, and wireless playback options, the DP-X1 offers plenty of ways to enjoy music.

In addition to streaming over Wi-Fi, aptX also makes high quality audio possible over Bluetooth.

Amazing Innovative Sound

MQA is not typical hi-res, a high bit rate or high sample rate audio. It is a completely new and different way of capturing, delivering and reproducing audio performances, and it preserves the magic of the original studio recording in a format that is still small enough to stream. Support for MQA format comes via a free update.

(Support for MQA format comes mid-2016 via a free update.)

DSD Conversion

Turn on "Real-Time DSD Conversion" and the DP-X1 converts music files such as MP3, WAV, and FLAC into DSD-quality audio. Use of oversampling and pushing bit quantization outside the audible spectrum allows for very clear signals. Everything sounds great!

Massive Storage Capacity

With 32GB of internal storage and dual micro-SDXC card slots, storage can be expanded to 432GB. With up to 16 hours of playback, you can carry an expansive library of hi-res audio and listen for extended periods of time.

(16 hour playback based on 96kHz/24-bit unbalanced output.)

Direct Access to Hi-Res Downloads and Streaming

OnkyoMusic is a music download service for hi-res audio files. Install the OnkyoMusic app and there is no need to sync with a home computer. Music can be purchased and dowloaded directly from the app within the player.

High Precision EQ

With up to 16,384 discrete bands to select from and the ability to save up to 1,000 EQ profiles, the linear-phase finite impulse response (FIR) equalizer offers high definition equalization with zero loss in audio quality.

Easy to Use Android Interface

The DP-X1 has a super flexible and intuitive Android platform, and with its fast quad core, it can support heavy processing and many high function apps. The capacitive touch display allows for intuitive use of flicks, taps and scrolling gestures. All icons and physical buttons are positioned for easy operation.

You have access to many apps like Tidal, Spotify, Pandora for almost endless music streaming and downloading resources.

Take note that I am not a regular reseller. I do not earn much at all from the sales of each unit. I am just sharing this employee-only special contract-less option at a discounted price to you all. RM2k+ per unit is not a small amount. While potential buyers are worried that I will scam them (which I will not), I am also worried that you will not complete the transaction after I have ordered and paid for the stock.

If you require me to prove my identity or as a sign of trust, I do not mind meeting up and showing proof to you.

If you are not comfortable with this arrangement, my apologies.

Happy holidays!

Apple-HTC Settlement Document Revealed

Or at least, what you can read of it, because vast swathes have been redacted. Still, there are bits you can actually read, so let's take a look.

A few interesting things that we can learn from the document:

Both Apple and HTC are getting a nonexclusive, nontransferrable and non-sublicensable license to some of each other's patents.

Apple has agreed not to sue HTC over certain covered products (details over which are, however, redacted).

Apple's design patents seem to have been excluded from the document.

This document was entered into the public record by Samsung, who initially asked about the finer details of the HTC-Apple agreement. There's more black ink there than you might've expected given that payment and royalty terms were the only things that had to be redacted, but if you want sift through it, you can find the document below.

Source for redacted document on Scribd

MS Surface RT teardown: giant retail profit margin

The folks that see how inexpensive an item is to produce and feel that the manufacturer should have little to no profit over this cost are certainly not going to enjoy what they’re hearing from IHS iSuppli about Microsoft today, that’s for sure. With a a Bill of Materials (BOM) cost of $271 USD and a $13 USD manufacturing cost, the total cost of the Microsoft Surface RT with minimum 32GB NAND flash memory becomes $248 in all, this placing it well below retail price at $599. IHS iSuppli note that compared to the low-end iPad (that being the iPad 2 in this case), the Surface RT generates a greater profit margin in percentage terms and on a per-unit basis as well.

These same folks did a teardown of the iPad mini recently and found the total cost of manufacturing to be $188 USD. Compared to its $329 retail price (and we’re talking about lowest-end iPad mini models here), that’s $141 USD profit per unit. It should be noted that licensing and software additions are not figured into this price or any other price in this study as conducted by IHS iSuppli. The amount of money the iPad mini costs to manufacture is approximately 43% of its total retail price.

The amount of cash between the cost to manufacture the Microsoft Surface RT and its retail cost is $351, that being 70% of its retail cost – and a whopper of a margin. When you break down the costs that IHS iSuppli found in the Surface RT, you find that it’s the touchscreen display that takes up the major bulk of the cash at $101 USD. This is followed by the mechanical and electro-mechanical bits costing $35 in total and the memory (that being 2GB DDR3L + 32GB eMMc NAND Flash + DRAM) costing $34 USD.

The iPad 3rd gen (16GB) was also torn down by IHS iSuppli back a few months ago (the 4th gen not quite ready for analyzation yet), with a total BOM at $316 with a pricetag at $499 USD. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (16GB) was also torn down and found to carry a BOM of $260 USD (with that same $499 USD pricetag in stores.) It would appear that Microsoft truly has the margin in all cases – now we’ve got to see if they can keep that price up.

SOS @ Slash Gear

Mini iPad

Apple hasn’t officially confirmed plans to launch a smaller tablet, but the buzz is already building.

Some component suppliers to Apple in Asia say they have received orders to make more than 10 million units of the smaller tablets in the fourth quarter. That is roughly double the order that were placed for Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets in the same quarter, these suppliers say.

The figure indicates that Apple believes demand for the product will be strong, despite stiff competition in the market.

Apple hasn’t responded to requests for comment on the smaller tablet dubbed by the industry as the iPad mini.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that Asian component suppliers have already started producing the smaller 7.85-inch tablet. Apple hasn’t confirmed when the new device will be available, but AllThingsD, a sister publication of The Wall Street Journal, reported last month that Apple plans to unveil the smaller tablet later this month.

Analysts say strong consumer demand for Samsung Electronics’ 5.3-inch Galaxy Note and Amazon’s 7-inch Kindle Fire shows that there is demand for a smaller tablet. Apple currently offers only one size –the 9.7-inch iPads.

“It makes sense for market leader Apple to extend its dominance in tablets with a smaller tablet,”said Capital Securities analyst Diana Wu.

Although Apple is still the biggest tablet maker in the world, its share of the market has been slipping following the launch of Android-based products.

According to market research firm iSuppli, Apple’s share of the worldwide tablet market was 69.6% in the second quarter, down from nearly 84% in 2010. The second-largest player was Samsung Electronics with 9.2% of the market in the second quarter.

Analysts say the challenge for Apple will be to price the smaller tablet attractively in order for it to succeed. Amazon’s 7-inch Kindle Fire HD sells for $199 and Google’s 7-inch Nexus 7 sells for $199.

“iPad mini will be a big hit if Apple prices it below $300,” said RBS analyst Wanli Wang.

SOS

While consumers around the world have adopted Webtop and the concept spurred a lot of innovation in the industry, the adoption has not been strong enough to justify continued resources being allocated to developing Webtop on future devices. We have also seen development of the Android operating system focus on the inclusion of more desktoplike features. Beginning with Photon Q and Droid Razr M/Droid Razr HD/Droid Razr Maxx HD, we will no longer be including Webtop on our products moving forward.
