Walaupun berdepan pelbagai ujian hidup, persahabatan antara pelawak Shuib Sepahtu dan Mamat Sepah tetap utuh. Shuib, yang dikenali dengan nama sebenar Shahmira Muhammad, 40, amat terharu apabila Mamat mengungkapkan niat untuk mendoakan kesejahteraannya semasa mengerjakan umrah yang dirancang pada Aidilfitri ketiga nanti. Mamat, yang dianggap sahabat paling rapat oleh Shuib, mengaku bahawa niat itu timbul kerana ingin meringankan beban yang sedang ditanggung oleh Shuib.

Shuib mengakui bahawa persahabatan mereka bukan hanya sekadar teman kerja, tetapi juga sahabat sejati yang sentiasa ada dalam keadaan susah dan senang. “Inilah namanya sahabat, sentiasa ada bersama ketika susah dan senang. Pada masa sulit, boleh doakan kita,” katanya dengan penuh rasa terharu.

Shuib turut menceritakan bahawa mereka mempunyai banyak perancangan projek bersama seperti drama dan rakaman single, selain projek raya yang sedang dirancang. Mamat, katanya, banyak mengetahui keadaan peribadi dan perniagaannya, membuatkan Shuib merasa sangat bersyukur.

Meskipun berdepan dengan pelbagai masalah dalam perniagaan, termasuk hutang yang disebut Mamat, Shuib menjelaskan bahawa hutang tersebut adalah sebahagian daripada risiko yang datang bersama dunia perniagaan.

“Hutang saya lebih kepada hutang berniaga termasuk dengan badan kerajaan. Contohnya, Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia, Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (PERKESO) dan cukai… Semuanya membabitkan perniagaan,” jelas Shuib. Beliau turut menambah bahawa semakin besar perniagaan, semakin besar juga risikonya, dan dia menyedari bahawa kejayaan dalam perniagaan datang dengan cabaran yang tidak dapat dielakkan.

Walau bagaimanapun, Shuib yakin bahawa perniagaannya dalam keadaan baik dan apa yang perlu dilakukan adalah lebih merancang dan menguruskan dengan lebih cekap. “Kalau tersalah urus dan rancang, memang berdepan risiko, tetapi saya okay sahaja. Kalau ahli perniagaan, perkara ini adalah normal. Baru hebat niaga juta-juta ringgit,” kata Shuib sambil menegaskan bahawa dia tidak akan berhenti walau apa pun yang terjadi.

Sementara itu, Mamat yang turut mengakui hubungan rapat mereka, telah memutuskan untuk mendoakan kelancaran dan kemudahan buat Shuib semasa mereka mengerjakan umrah nanti. Walaupun mereka ditawarkan untuk mengerjakan umrah oleh syarikat pelancongan yang berbeza, mereka memilih untuk menarik diri dan akhirnya ditawarkan untuk pergi bersama agensi yang sama.

Pada Aidilfitri ketiga ini, mereka bakal terbang ke Tanah Suci, dengan niat mendoakan kebaikan untuk sahabat mereka, Shuib. Persahabatan mereka yang penuh dengan keikhlasan dan sokongan adalah bukti bahawa dalam kehidupan, sahabat sejati adalah sumber kekuatan yang tidak ternilai.

7As SPM student’s higher education dreams dashed

IN a viral TikTok video, a local student revealed that despite achieving 7As in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM), found their educational path obstructed due to a ‘D’ grade in English.

In the video, the student expressed frustration: “It’s okay, you have a lot of A’s.”

“But because of English D grade, was not eligible for all applications,” the next slide in the video revealed.

Determined not to give up, the student requested a review of the English grade.

After a tense nine-day wait, the grade was upgraded from a ‘D’ to a ‘C+’.

This improvement allowed the student to apply for a matriculation program.

However, the student’s optimism was short-lived as the application was again rejected due to the minimum requirement of a ‘C’ in English.

Based on experience, the student urged future SPM candidates to prioritise English proficiency.

“For the younger ones, English is extremely important. Even with good grades overall, without at least a credit in English, it won’t be enough,” the student shared.

The online community responded with overwhelming support and advice.

One user suggested exploring alternative pathways. “You should consider STPM. When applying for a degree, STPM and matriculation students are often prioritised by the Ministry of Higher Education in the UPU system, increasing your chances of admission to top universities and your desired course.”

A third user stressed the importance of core subjects: “BM, BI and history, don’t take these three subjects lightly.”

Reno on IBS homes

Hi there...

A new house owner of an IBS house project by Scientex. I want to ask a few questions regarding this type of house, the IBS house.

From what I've read, major reno on the house might be tricky, but most references I looked up did not specify what makes up a major reno..

There are several things we (me and my wife) would like to do to the house since we have observed that many "flaws" can be seen in that newly built house of ours.

1. Extending our second floor

Since there's a balcony access from the master bedroom, the balcony wall itself is very low, and the neighbours can literally jump into our balcony, we would like to extend the balcony until the end, perhaps either extending the master bedroom or making it a big open-space balcony there. Indirectly, we can get a covered porch for our cars.

My question for this is: Is this considered one of the limitations of an IBS house as it might "interfere" with the overall structure of the house?

2. Plug points

I don't know what was on the minds of the Scientex people, but the power plug for each area of the house only has one power plug. Damn boy, in this day and age, everything requires power access, and we need way more than just an outlet for each space. So, I was thinking of adding a few power plugs in each room and space area. But I'm not talking about buying a socket and DIYing it and making it look hideous with a power socket sticking out from the wall. I want the additional wall plugs to be flush with the wall, making it more aesthetically pleasing.

My question is: is it achievable with IBS house? I literally need to knock down, or partially knock down, the wall and pull the wires to extend to other parts of the walls in the room. Again, will it interfere with the structure of the house?

3. Shared bathroom on the second floor

I didn't expect the shared bathroom to be that small; it is no bigger than 2-toilet stalls in malls! We visited the showroom house, and the shared toilet was apparently decent enough for us, but what we got was a kind of disappointing. So, our plan is to tear down the wall of the shared bathroom (which is beside the 2nd bedroom) and maybe extend it a bit, eventually making the 2nd bedroom much smaller.

My question is the same as previously: is it achievable with IBS house?

4. The third floor of the house

It is an open space, very spacious. So we were thinking of building another toilet on the third floor.

My question is the same as previously.

I hope you can give some insights and help a fellow new home owner clear his doubts.

... DASH highway doesnt allow deduction from TnG e-wallet?

This morning, ayem masuk itu DASH Highway from Kota Damansara exit, then sudenly itu machine bunyi.. tengok tulis baki tarak cukup in my TnG card.. mind you, it was 6.30am when it happened. Ayem pun gelabah.. cari punya cari, at last jumpa my NFC TnG card.. luckily i simpan itu card dalam kereta.. so, ayem topup itu card and wallah, jalan sudahhh

tapi why ah? i thought before this they can deduct from TnG ewallet if our cards doesnt have enough balance?

PETALING JAYA: Stand-up comedian Jocelyn Chia is no longer Singaporean, says the nation's High Commissioner to Malaysia Vanu Gopala Menon.

In a statement issued on Thursday (June 8), Menon said that he is appalled by the "gratuitously offensive comments" made by Chia in her performance.

"The Singapore Government does not condone words or actions that cause harm or hurt to others and Chia, who is no longer Singaporean, does not in any way reflect our views," said Menon.

"I sincerely apologise to all Malaysians for her hurtful remarks," he added.

Menon said that as Singapore's closest neighbour, both nations enjoy a strong and multi-faceted relationship with deep and cross-cutting ties.

"Comments such as those made by Chia are unhelpful and undermine the close trust and friendship that both our countries and peoples enjoy," he added.

This comes after Chia used the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 in her stand-up comedy routine.

Chia - who was performing at a comedy club in the United States - first joked about Malaysia being a developing country that was far behind Singapore, 40 years after the island nation was "dumped" by Malaysia in 1965.

"My country, Singapore, after we gained independence from the British, we were a struggling little nation.

"In order to survive, we formed a union with a larger, more powerful country, Malaysia.

"When my prime minister went on TV to announce that you guys had dumped us, he cried because he thought we were not going to survive without you.

"But then, 40 years later, we became a first-world country."

"And you guys? Malaysia, what are you now? Still a developing country," she says sarcastically in a video shared on her Instagram account.

Chia then crudely references the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 tragedy in a joke about Malaysia seeking to re-establish ties with Singapore.

"Why haven't you (Malaysia) paid me a visit in 40 years?," she says in a monologue.

In another voice, she replies: "I tried, but you know, our airplanes can't fly," she says as a graphic of a Malaysia Airlines plane flashes on the screen,

This draws a few gasps from the audience but Jocelyn doubles down on the joke.

"What, Malaysia Airlines going missing is not funny, huh?

"Some jokes don't land," she says in an apparent reference to Flight MH370, which vanished on March 8, 2014 while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, China.

The fate of its 239 passengers and crew are unknown to today.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended a breaking of fast event with media practitioners and local artistes at Dewan Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC), today (April 11).

The Prime Minister, who arrived at 6.47pm, wearing a light blue baju Melayu, was accompanied by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil and his deputy, Teo Nie Ching.

Before breaking fast, Anwar also spent time mingling with the guests.

About 1,000 people, including heads of media agencies, local and international journalists and cameramen, as well as artistes and 30 orphans from Rumah Kasih Ibu, Ampang attended the event.

Among those present were Bernama chief executive officer Roslan Ariffin, NSTP group managing editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman and Media Prima Berhad group chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Aljunid.

The local celebrities who attended included versatile artiste Ifa Raziah, actor and host Datuk AC Mizal, as well as radio presenter and singer Dina Nadzir and film director Datuk Suhaimi Baba.

Angkatan Mahasiswa UM tuntut kerajaan

KUALA LUMPUR: Angkatan Mahasiswa Universiti Malaya (UM) mengemukakan lima tuntutan membabitkan kebebasan, kebajikan dan masa depan mahasiswa untuk dilaksanakan kerajaan perpaduan dan Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi (KPT).

Dalam tuntutan pertamanya, Angkatan Mahasiswa UM meminta kerajaan pimpinan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim memansuhkan Akta Universiti dan Kolej Universiti (AUKU) 1971, kerana undang-undang itu didakwa menyekat mahasiswa menjadi gerakan bersifat aktivis dan mandiri.

"AUKU membantutkan semangat aktivis mahasiswa untuk mempunyai autonomi dan kebebasan bersuara serta menyekat mahasiswa mengumpul dana serta membuat kutipan sendiri.

"Jika dibandingkan dengan gerakan mahasiswa pada era 70-an, semangat aktivis mahasiswa sangat tinggi sehingga berjaya membela nasib golongan masyarakat seperti peristiwa Baling," katanya dalam satu kenyataan, hari ini.

Dalam tuntutan kedua, Angkatan Mahasiswa UM mahu istilah Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar (MPP) ditukarkan kepada 'Kesatuan Pelajar', bagi mengangkat darjat gerakan badan pelajar dengan memberikan autonomi tersendiri.

Katanya, ketika gerakan mahasiswa diiktiraf sebagai kesatuan pelajar, Kesatuan Mahasiswa Universiti Malaya (KMUM) mencapai era kegemilangan sehingga mempunyai milikan aset seperti bas mini serta menjalankan perniagaan makanan kafeteria dan kantin kampus, hingga dianggap sebagai kesatuan mahasiswa paling kaya di Asia Tenggara.

Angkatan Mahasiswa UM turut menuntut kerajaan perpaduan, khususnya KPT, memperluas peluang pekerjaan bagi mengurangkan kadar pengangguran belia, selain menggesa penyelesaian isu penginapan pelajar secara tuntas.

"Perkara ini berlaku apabila jumlah pengambilan pelajar baharu setiap kali sesi kemasukan semakin bertambah dan tidak sepadan dengan kapasiti kolej kediaman untuk menempatkan semua pelajar.

"Kesannya, mahasiswa tahun dua dan ke atas perlu mencari rumah sewa, dan perkara ini memberikan bebanan kerana kos sewa harga bilik atau rumah ketika ini amat tinggi dan tidak relevan untuk individu berstatus mahasiswa," katanya.

Bagi tuntutan kelima, Angkatan Mahasiswa UM menggesa kerajaan menyelesaikan isu pengangkutan di universiti, yang mana bilangan bas sedia ada tidak mampu menampung jumlah mahasiswa yang menggunakannya, sekali gus memaksa pelajar berhimpit dan meningkatkan risiko berlaku gangguan seksual.

"Angkatan juga menuntut kerajaan melakukan transformasi ke atas sistem pengangkutan awam seperti transit aliran ringan (LRT), yang menjejaskan pelbagai peringkat lapisan masyarakat, khususnya golongan bekerja dan mahasiswa," katanya.

My flight to Seoul is next Tuesday. I applied for K-ETA last week, but then yesterday got an email saying my K-ETA application is denied.

Both my elderly parents K-ETA approved, just that my sibling and I got rejected. I applied for all of us last week at the same time.

Yesterday I reapplied again for K-ETA, but I still haven't gotten any reply today.

I've enquired with the South Korean Embassy regarding applying Korea Visa, but they said there is no guarantee and it can take up to 7 days to get approval. And need to pay hefty amount of RM 170 for it.

Any advice? or does anyone connected with the Embassy to expedite the process?
