PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry has detected five "generations" of positive Covid-19 cases that were linked to the tabligh gathering in the Seri Petaling Mosque last month.

Health director-general Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that from the tabligh cluster, 711 cases had infected their families.[/SPOILER]

"If we look at the tabligh cluster, there are 711 index cases and these index cases spread to their families, which are the first generation.

"Their family members infect their neighbours, and these neighbours infect their friends. We have seen five generations of infections. Every person who infect another individual... there are five generations," he said during a press conference on the Covid-19 situation on Thursday (March 26).

The tabligh cluster makes up 55% of all the Covid-19 cases in the country, or 1,117 of 2,031 cases so far.

More than half of the 23 deaths linked to the disease so far are also linked to this cluster.

The tabligh gathering from Feb 27 to March 3 this year saw about 16,000 attendees, with 1,500 of them being foreigners from 25 different countries.

"We have to determine how we are going to identify the close contacts of the tabligh attendees. The first is their family members and the second is maybe their friends. This investigation is complicated and will take time," said Dr Hisham.

He said that 13,762 tabligh attendees were screened with 9,327 samples taken to be tested.

While 1,117 of the samples tested positive, a total of 5,646 were negative while 2,564 were still pending for the results.

Many of my Malay staff took advance gaji already.. This month potong half month pay cause of lockdown.. Next month after deduct the advancement they took earlier this month lol they still owe company money.

Beijing (AFP): Around 70 people were trapped after a hotel collapsed in China's eastern Fujian province on Saturday (March 7) evening, officials said.

Xinjia Hotel in Quanzhou city collapsed around 7.30pm (11.30GMT) and around 23 people had been rescued by 9.00pm, according to a local government statement.

The 80-room hotel was recently converted to a quarantine facility for people who had recent contact with Covid-19 patients, the People's Daily state newspaper reported.

SINGAPORE (ANN): Aroused by the sight of his sleeping roommate, a male tour coordinator crept towards the man and performed a non-consensual sexual act on him.

The two Thai men were sharing a room at the Hotel Grand Central in Cavenagh Road when the incident occurred on March 27 last year.

The offender, Chalermnarong Namsri, 46, was sentenced on Tuesday (March 3) to 5½ years' jail with three strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to one count of performing a sexual act on the man without his consent.

The 24-year-old victim cannot be named due to a gag order to protect his identity.

He arrived in Singapore in March last year for a three-day sponsored trip with other participants to learn about business-related matters here.

Namsri, who also went along with the group, was tasked to liaise with tour guides for the participants.

The court heard that the two men did not know each other before the trip.

However, one of the tour guides later assigned them to the same room at Hotel Grand Central, where they occupied separate beds.

The younger man was sleeping at around 5am on March 27 last year when Namsri crept towards his victim and performed oral sex on him without his consent.

After a few minutes, the younger man stirred and pulled up his shorts.

Namsri was going back to his own bed when the man spotted him.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Grace Teo said: "The victim was shocked. He decided to take a shower to think about what to do.

"After his shower, the victim asked the accused how long he had been 'doing that' to him. The accused apologised."

The younger man left the room and met his cousin, who was also in Singapore at the time.

He told his cousin about what happened and they called the Thai embassy for advice.

The victim lodged a police report later that day.

On Tuesday, DPP Teo told District Judge Chay Yuen Fatt that Namsri had exposed the victim to the risk of sexually transmitted diseases by performing unprotected oral sex on him.

Urging the judge to sentence Namsri to at least six years' jail with three strokes of the cane, she added: "The accused took advantage of a situation where the victim was asleep and hence incapable of fending off the accused's assault."

For performing the non-consensual sexual act on his victim, Namsri could have been jailed for up to 20 years and fined or caned. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

BERKSHIRE, UK (ANN): A nursery worker, who apparently coerced a 13-year-old boy into having sex with her, is now facing five counts of sexual activity with a child in the United Kingdom.

Leah Cordice, now 20 years old, went into the boy’s room drunk in 2017 when the first incident occurred, as per the Daily Mail’s report yesterday on Feb 25. During Cordice’s trial, it was revealed that the nursery worker got pregnant with the minor’s child but married her long-time boyfriend.

Social services became involved after the boy’s mother called the police which forced Cordice to take a DNA test. The authorities arrested Cordice at her home in Berkshire on July 9,2018. According to the report, she was later on interviewed under caution.

During her court hearing, it was narrated how the 17-year-old Cordice entered the boy’s bedroom while he was playing Xbox and watching videos on YouTube in January 2017. She reportedly kept on kissing and hugging the minor. The nursery worker also pulled the schoolboy’s trousers down before engaging in sexual intercourse.

The minor, who could not be named due to legal reasons, told the authorities that he could not refuse Cordice as she insisted on engaging in sexual acts. As per the report, the two continued having unprotected sex at least twice a month for a year.

Cordice went to the schoolboy first when she found out she was pregnant, according to the report. Cordice allegedly showed the minor an app on her phone suggesting the date she conceived the baby. It showed that it was around the first time they had sex.

While seeing the minor, Cordice married her boyfriend. During the trial, the jury heard through Cordice’s prepared statement that she denied having any sexual contact with the minor.

“He has always had a crush on me and would always make inappropriate remarks and do inappropriate things such as grab me and annoy me, ” she was quoted as saying. “We did not have sexual contact.”

However, a DNA test revealed that Cordice’s daughter was the schoolboy’s child. Despite this, she has said, “The complainant is not the father of my child.”

According to prosecutor Grace Ong, Cordice has since admitted to sexual relations with the boy but continues to deny that her child is his.

Cordice’s trial is still ongoing as of writing. Of the five counts of having sexual activity with a minor charged against Cordice, three are believed to have taken place while she was still 17 years old, while the other two were when she reached 18. – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network
