Nokia 6260 slide

The spanking new Nokia 6260 slide easily steals the spotlight with Wi-Fi, GPS, 320 x 480 pixels display, and a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. We bet that reading those specs the words "dumb phone" or "S40" would never cross you mind. But the new Nokia 6260 slide is exactly that - a feature phone running the latest S40 6th edition user interface. Say hello to the next S40 super phone.

The unassumingly named Nokia 6260 slide has the same conservative design borrowed from the current 6xxx lineup (Nokia 6600 slide and Nokia 6210 Navigator). Obviously, the lack of original design ideas is not plaguing only Sony Ericsson recently.

Still we can't really brace our excitement as the 6260 slide is the best thing that has happened to the Nokia S40 family for quite some time now.

The Nokia 6260 slide sports a 2.4-inch 16M color display with the one-off resolution of 320 x 480 pixels (HVGA). It has quad-band GSM support plus HSDPA 10.2 Mbps. As we already mentioned, there is also Wi-Fi and a built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS support.

The integrated 5 megapixel autofocus camera is accompanied by a dual LED flash. Sadly, it will only be capable of recording VGA video at 15 fps as most recent midrange S40 handsets.

There is 200MB of internal memory and a microSD slot with support for up to 8GB cards. The 360-degree D-pad is another first for the S40 lineup - it's a nice enhancement, which sounds as a cool addition to the digital map scouring or the mobile web browsing.

Speaking of web browsing, the Nokia 6260 will be the first feature phone to sport the awesome Nokia WebKit Open Source Browser, previously available only on the Symbian S60 smartphones. It's one of the best mobile browsers currently boasting a virtual mouse pointer interface, incremental page rendering, visual history browsing and page mini-map. Flash Lite 3 support is also added to the S40 platform, which should make watching flash videos a breeze - another first for a feature phone.

Stereo Bluetooth 2.1, a microUSB port that's used for charging, and a 2.5mm A/V jack with TV-out functionality are all aboard the 6260 slide.

The only contemporary feature that seems missing on the Nokia 6260 slide is the accelerometer sensor that is making its way throughout handsets of various makes and walks of life. We wonder when Nokia will add that to their feature phones. But let's not digress, the new 6260 still looks like a helluva performer.

The Nokia 6260 will be available in beige or black in the beginning of 2009 at an estimated price of 299 euro before taxes and subsidies.

Motorola EM35

the Motorola EM35, which will be the successor of the music oriented Motorola EM30. The smartphone runs on Linux Montavista 2.6.10 OS and has SCM-A11 500MHz processor on-board.

The new EM35 is also a music-centric phone but this time in the slider form factor. It sports three hardware music keys as well as a 3.5mm AV jack. The new baby has borrowed from Motorola ROKR E8 the navigation scroll wheel, as you can see by yourself from the leaked photos.

Of course the feature-rich music player and stereo FM radio with RDS support are here as well. Though the 110MB built-in memory is pretty good count, you can rely on the microSD card slot for expanding the on-board memory. Finally, the music section is enhanced by Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP profile for listening stereo music with compatible Bluetooth headsets.

The tri-band GSM phone will support GPRS and EDGE but no 3G. Motorola EM35 has a 2.22" QVGA TFT display with 256K colors and a 3MP camera on its back. Talking about dimensions, the EM35 slider measures 107 x 49.5 x 16 mm and weighs 117 grams.

LG KF900 Prada

LG KF900 Prada is The new edition of the designer phone will not only feature a nice 5 megapixel camera but it will also be capable of recording D1 (720 x 480 pixels) videos at 30 fps.

The sweet sounding video capture capabilities are the best there are on the market matched by only a few other handsets out there. The Samsung M8800 Pixon will very soon find its place in the review section of our homepage so you can see what it's capable of. The other candidates for replacing your home camcorder are the LG KC780 and KC550 but the latter actually interpolates some of the frames so it doesn't really count.

The other updates to LG KF900 Prada specs sheet that we can bring you include a built-in accelerometer and the capacity of the battery. The new temptation to the fashion-savvy users will run on a 950 mAh Li-Ion battery.

Finally, the Prada II will sport 900 and 2100 MHz 3G bands instead of the previously rumored 850 and 2100 MHz.

LG KC780

The main highlight of LG KC780 is quite obviously its 8 megapixel autofocus camera. It is also capable of shooting D1 (720 x 480 pixels) resolution videos at the cool 30fps. The camera has a long list of sweet sounding features. Those include face and smile detection, beauty shot, image stabilization and ISO 1600.

The display of LG KC780 is a 2.4" 262K-color unit of QVGA resolution. Some of the other niceties on-board are Bluetooth v2.1 with EDR, USB v2.0 and a microSD card slot that tops 140MB of built-in storage. There is no 3G support, so EDGE will have to do for network data transfers.

The LG KC780 is also able to stream live video over Bluetooth connection with PC, which is a great way to have a webcam on you at all times.

The LG KC780 will be the mere 13.9mm thick, which is a feat considering the 8MP shooter and the large display. The tri-band (900/1800/1900) handset will start shipping as early as November this year at a price that's yet to be announced.

Samsung i740

Samsung i740 is in its essence a quad-band GSM/GPRS phone with no 3G support or even EDGE. The other feature missing here is also the Wi-Fi connectivity. These two major flaws are intended to lower the phone price to make it more desirable for the mass user, but without them the Samsung i740 will most surely fail miserably on the market.

Samsung i740 has a standard 2.8" TFT display with QVGA resolution. As a phone running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro OS, it is important to know that i740 can rely on a powerful 624 MHz processor. Fortunately, there's at least a built-in GPS receiver.

The phone flaunts 3 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash. The camera has a business card scanning feature.

Leaving those aside, the phone offers some standard features as FM radio, stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), USB and a microSD card slot (up to 4GB).

Samsung i740 has an all-metal body, features an ingenious scroll-wheel navigation button and measures 107 x 59 x 13.8mm - as you can see the missing 3G and Wi-Fi support has not lead to an ultra slim profile.

The Samsung i740 market availability is scheduled for the summer

Sony Ericsson T700

Sony Ericsson T700 comes with quad-band GSM support and single-band 3G support with HSDPA. A 3.2 megapixel snapper is also onboard but no autofocus (sorry!). The handset also packs a 2-inch 262K color display with QVGA resolution.

Measuring 104 x 48 x 10 mm and weighing only 78 g the Sony Ericsson T700 is even more compact than its predecessor - the Sony Ericsson T650. Some of its other features are Bluetooth with A2DP, USB connectivity and up to 25MB of user memory. There is also a M2 card slot for expanding that amount and a 512MB memory card included in the retail package. An FM radio with RDS completes the list of features.

Sony Ericsson T700 is going to hit the shelves in Q4 of the year at an estimated retail price of less than 200 euro. The color version available will be Black on Silve, Black on Red and Shining Silver.

Samsung M3510

The Samsung M3510 Beat has already been announced a couple of weeks ago. The news today is that it will be pet-named the Samsung Beat b, which simply means it's a bar-shaped device from the new Beat family.

The Samsung Beat b is a slim music-centric bar standing at only 9.9mm. It's got the same music features as the M3200 Beat s with the only exception of the Bang&Olufsen ICEpower audio chip

The Samsung M3510 Beat also has quad-band GSM support, a 2-inch QVGA display and a 2 megapixel camera - all that's packed in a body that's only 9.9mm thick. A microSD memory card slot, stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) and FM radio with RDS are also on board.

The Samsung M3510 Beat b will be available as of this month.

Samsung M3200

The Samsung M3200 Beat s is a slider with metallic finish and dedicated music keys. Samsung are obviously continuing their naming convention of using superscript letters in their model designations. In this case it's the letter "S" that's supposed to be superscript, but you'll have to excuse our typographic misrepresentation (we hope you get the sarcastic note here).

The Samsung M3200 Beat s sports a number of music-oriented features beside the already mentioned dedicated music keys. It's got stereo loudspeakers, a Bang&Olufsen ICEpower audio chip, a 3.5mm audio jack, stereo Bluetooth, FM radio with RDS and audio recording, and finally a music player Shake control thanks to the built-in acccelerometer.

Samsung's alternative to Shake control is called Motion Play. It's a unique feature for the Samsung portfolio and a similar control has been implemented only in several Sony Ericsson Walkman phones. It allows you to play or pause music with a tap on the phone, mute the music by turning the phone face down, or change tracks by shaking it.

Again, much like the Walkmans, the Samsung Beat s offers mood-based track sorting so you can always tune your track to your current mood.

The Samsung M3200 Beat s also boasts Samsung's latest DNSe technology (Digital Natural Sound engine). According to the manufacturer it should provide more natural sound effects, overcoming the limitations of sound from earphones and small speakers in portable devices. Handsets with DNSe technology should be able to reproduce a genuine 3D sound and deep bass resonance.

Another first in the M3200 Beat is the 'Auto EQ' function. It automatically changes the current equalizer preset according to the genre and type of the music users listen to.

And finally, in a last competing move against Walkmans, Samsung have equipped their handsets with a music recognition feature (like TrackID). It's the Shazam's 'Find Music' service. By recording and sending a tune to Shazam server, users can easily learn a track name and artist.

Beside the rich music features, the Samsung M3200 Beat s sports quad-band GSM support, a 2-inch QVGA display and a 2 megapixel camera. A microSD memory card slot is also on board with support for cards up to 8GB.

The Samsung M3200 Beat s should be available some time in October 2008.

LG KP500

Aiming at the midrange market, LG will be bringing full touch handsets to the masses, by introducing their latest LG KP500. Standing at 11.9 mm of thickness, the LG KP500 may be affordable but not at the expense of style.

Borrowing its design from the LG Renoir, the LG KP500 uses the latest reincarnation of the proprietary LG Flash-based UI. The user interface is thumb-optimized, but a stylus is also provided to assist handwriting recognition. Unlike the LG Viewty however, the stylus here is tucked into the body of the handset itself.

The LG KP500 is not a high-end device, but once again it's feature pack is optimized for affordability. The KP500 doesn't have 3G support, but there's quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE for a true world-wide use.

It also has a 3 megapixel fixed focus camera, but there's a 3-inch wide touch screen display with a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels to poke around. A microSD memory card slot, stereo Bluetooth, FM radio and an accelerometer for auto screen rotation and gaming completes the tally. A virtual landscape QWERTY keyboard and office document viewer are also present.

Weighing only 89 g, the LG KP500 will land in Europe in October 2008. Its price will be announced later on, but we can't help but wonder what do they exactly mean by affordable - their most affordable touchscreen handsets are the LG KF700, which currently sells online for around 200 euro (285 US dollars).
