Ridiculous-- debloating hd help

So, I bought a new laptop recently and it came with all sorts of programs and files preinstalled. It's running on Vista Premium, and the D drive has been partitioned for recovery etc.

Fine, fine... that takes up 5gb of space. What concerns me, however, is the 17gb of my hd that has been used up. About 500mb of those are my personal files, another 2gb I find out has to do with some Windows Hibernating tool, but the programs that came preinstalled with my laptop cannot possibly eat up the rest of the missing space. I've cleaned out all temporary files (not a lot given that this lappie is less than a week old) and went through the program manager to try and figure out where the space went, but... didn't come up with anything substantial. Only have one game installed.

I'm currently making a recovery dvd... noticed that from 18gb I now have 24gb worth of stuff, and still increasing. How do I get rid of all this junk afterwards? :s
