Former MAG chief Izham joins Philippine Airlines b

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) managing director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail has been appointed as an independent director of Philippine Airlines (PAL), marking his latest move in the aviation industry following his retirement from MAG earlier this year.

According to the Philippine-based business publication insider Insider PH, PAL has appointed Izham and fuel industry veteran Edgar Chua to its board as independent directors.

The appointments come as the Philippine flag carrier continues to strengthen its leadership team and support its long-term growth strategy.

PAL chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) Lucio C. Tan welcomed the appointments saying both directors would bring valuable experience to the airline.

"We are delighted to welcome Chua and Izham to PAL's board of directors."

"Chua's extensive business leadership experience and Izham's global aviation expertise will be invaluable as PAL continues to pursue sustainable growth, strengthen governance and expand its role in connecting the Philippines to the world," Tan said, as reported by Insider PH.

PETALING JAYA: Express coach operator Aeroline has announced that Kuala Lumpur will no longer be a boarding and drop-off point for its services.

The company, which offered services from the capital city to Singapore and Penang, said it received a directive from the government on May 13, stating that it could only operate from licensed terminals, namely 1 Utama, LaLaport, and IOI City Mall, but this posed challenges for its passengers.

“Rather than compromising our values, charging you more, or delivering a compromised experience, we have made the very difficult decision to leave Kuala Lumpur entirely and focus on serving you elsewhere,” it said in a Facebook post.

Aeroline said that when its “long-standing home” at Corus KLCC was no longer suitable to serve as a station, it relocated to TRX in the interim, which proved to be “hugely popular”.

However, following the strict directive that it was to operate only from licensed terminals, the only available venues were 1 Utama, LaLaport, and IOI City Mall.

It said the commercial fees imposed for its buses to operate from LaLaport did not align with its long-standing core principle of providing “value for money”, as the additional costs would ultimately be passed on to passengers.

In addition, the physical setup at LaLaport made it difficult to replicate the signature Aeroline experience that passengers expect, including comfortable waiting lounges, complimentary refreshments, as well as personalised assistance for ticketing and check-in.

Aeroline said its ticketing and reservation system also required a more sophisticated level of administrative and customer support compared to conventional bus operations.

“Replicating these service standards within the current operating framework would require substantial additional manpower, facilities, and operational expenditure on top of the existing commercial charges already imposed at the terminal.

“Ultimately, these compounded costs would make the entire proposal financially untenable without significantly compromising either service quality or affordability for our passengers,” it said.

The firm apologised to passengers who are experiencing inconvenience or confusion arising from the interim processes and operational adjustments it recently implemented.

“Please continue to stay connected through our official channels for updates regarding schedules, ticketing arrangements, and the continuation of our services outside the Kuala Lumpur city zone,” it said.

In January, transport minister Loke Siew Fook said express bus operators serving the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route were granted a moratorium to continue operating from their current pick-up points.

He said that operators must relocate once the Lalaport hub and other designated terminals were fully ready, aimed at ending disorganised roadside boarding in congested areas, particularly in front of hotels and shopping complexes, which pose risks to passenger safety and traffic flow.

Aeroline’s services were suspended for a month, from Nov 6 to Dec 5 last year, after the Land Public Transport Agency issued the operator three show-cause letters, citing the misuse of its operating licence by picking up and dropping off passengers at unauthorised locations.

Boeing is set to begin work next year on the groundwork for the 737 replacement with plans to launch in 2030.

The article essentially details how Ortberg determines to deliver a new single aisle, minimal risk, TTBW is essentially shelved. The only thing Ortberg is interested in is the wing design

Bloomberg has a deep dive on it but let me take out the key features:
- single aisle airliner (more revolutionary than evolutionary)
- closer in size to the 757 than any 737 model
- model will have a familiar tube and turbofan design
- far more efficient wings than anything in service today, they’ll be longer, thinner and yes they will be folding wings like the 777x
- teams in Boeing are stepping up exploratory work from suppliers, work includes redesigning the cockpit to make it more user friendly, there’s also looking at a small engine in the tail (probably won’t make it to the final design Imo, but it’s being explored)
- Boeing is looking at the upper end of the max-10 size of aircraft and then from there they’ll create a family of aircraft. So essentially the smallest version of the new family will be the size of the max 10.
- engines will be ducted, Boeing is not interested in the CFM rise. CFM is working on a ducted version of RISE
- groundwork will begin in earnest once the 777-9 is certified essentially. But engineers are ramping up the R&D, testing what suppliers have available or what they’ll have.
- Boeing is also courting engine suppliers to see what they have available

Jony Ive: I refuse to speculate on how Steve Jobs would react to this Ferrari.

For a decade, the tech world waited for an Apple Car that never arrived. Instead, its spiritual successor just rolled out of Maranello. Jony Ive designed the interior of Ferrari's first electric vehicle, the Luce. And his first strategic move is a massive rejection.

Apple inadvertently ruined modern car interiors. The iPad trained every automaker to glue a giant screen to the dashboard and kill physical controls.

Now, Ive is reversing that trend. For the Ferrari Luce, he rejected the giant touchscreen in favor of tactile, mechanical buttons and advanced glass.

When asked how Steve Jobs would react to the car, Ive refused to guess. But he admitted he wouldn't even be in the room without his history with Jobs.

I love the irony here. The mythical Apple Car finally exists inside a Ferrari. And instead of pushing more screens into the cabin, Ive is using the design foundation he built with Jobs to prove that the future of luxury is tactile.
