Drinking beer cuts risk of erectile dysfunction

IT may be hard to believe but drinking alcohol actually boosts potency.

Men will be rejoicing after a study found moderate boozing slashed the risk of erectile dysfunction by nearly a fifth compared to teetotallers.

Experts think a drink raises nitric oxide levels, which widens blood vessels and improves circulation — crucial for a solid performance.

The global study analysed data on more than 210,000 men and the impact of alcohol on their erections.

Moderate boozers — up to 14 units a week — had an 18 per cent lower risk of impotence.

A Saudi Arabian takeover of Newcastle United is close to being agreed.
Approval from the Premier League could possibly come in the next 24 hours after a consortium proved the Saudi state would not have control of the club.

Instead the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which is set to provide 80% of funds for the £300m deal, will be seen as separate to the state and therefore allow the takeover to pass the Premier League owners' and directors' test. It was believed that a resolution came after Saudi Arabia settled an alleged piracy dispute with Qatar-based broadcaster beIN Sports, which own rights to show Premier League matches in the Middle East. But sources have told BBC Sport that an agreement between the Premier League and the consortium was found prior to the news emerging on Wednesday, with the two parties being set for arbitration on 3 January.

The Saudi Arabian state has been accused of human rights abuses, but with the majority owner PIF deemed a separate entity, that, and any piracy issues, are no longer an impediment to the takeover in the Premier League's view.
The shock news will delight the fanbase after a Newcastle United Supporters' Trust survey on Tuesday showed that 93% of its members were in favour of the takeover. Many fans want current owner Mike Ashley to leave the club after a 14-year reign, which they believe has been plagued by a lack of investment and ambition.

The Premier League and Newcastle have declined to comment.

Gyms recently reopened and I want to go back after a few months away but I’m a bit paranoid about catching covid. What are you guys doing in terms of SOPs to prevent infection? I’m not too worried about myself it’s more about not wanting to pass anything on to my young kids at home who obviously haven’t been vaccinated yet.

KPMG to pay RM333 mil to Malaysian govt for 1MDB

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 16): KPMG Malaysia has agreed to pay a settlement of US$80 million (valued at RM333 million) to resolve all claims related to its fiduciary duties in auditing the accounts of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) for the period of 2010 to 2012, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) announced today.

In a statement, the MoF said the settlement will conclude the civil suit filed by the Malaysian government on July 6 this year against KPMG, which will expedite the payment of monies to fulfil 1MDB's outstanding obligations, and save the court's time and public resources.

It was previously reported that the suit, which was filed against 44 partners of KPMG, alleged breaches of contract as well as negligence in the audit and certification of 1MDB's financial statements for the financial year ended March 31, 2010 (FY10), FY11, and FY12. The Malaysian government had sought US$5.64 billion from the defendants, a sum which it claimed was misappropriated from 1MDB between 2009 and 2014 — of which US$3.197 billion was allegedly misappropriated during the years when KPMG was the auditor.

According to the MoF's statement today, the settlement with KPMG is valued at more than 800 times the audit fees earned by KPMG and represents one of the largest 1MDB-related settlements by an audit firm in Southeast Asia.

Amazon founder 'funds' new age-reversal company

A new start-up that aims to reverse aging is planning to open a lab in the UK, reportedly with funding from Jeff Bezos.

Altos Labs has raised at least $270m (£231m) to develop biological reprogramming technology, a way to rejuvenate cells that some scientists think could be extended to revitalise entire animal bodies, ultimately prolonging human life.

The company, which was incorporated in the US and in the UK earlier this year, is reported to have billionaires Jeff Bezos and Yuri Milner among its investors, according to MIT Technology Review.

Shinya Yamanaka, who shared a 2012 Nobel Prize for the discovery of reprogramming, will act as an unpaid senior scientist and will chair the company's scientific advisory board.

He found that with the addition of just four proteins, cells can be instructed to revert to a primitive state with the properties of embryonic stem cells.

Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, a Spanish scientist also reportedly joining Altos, applied these principles to entire living mice, achieving signs of age reversal and leading him to term reprogramming a potential "elixir of life".

He has predicted that human lifespans could be increased by 50 years.

STOCKHOLM: Lebih 100 orang dijangkiti Covid-19 selepas menghadiri satu pesta seks yang diadakan di negara ini, sekali gus menjadi antara kluster terbesar di Sweden.

Lapor The Sun, pesta tersebut diadakan di Molkom di wilayah Varmland dan kini polis menyiasat jika pihak penganjur sengaja membiarkan pengunjung dijangkiti virus maut tersebut.

Jika didapati bersalah, penganjur bakal berdepan dengan denda atau hukuman penjara sehingga dua tahun.

Menurut polis, mendedahkan masyarakat dengan ancaman penyakit berjangkit yang boleh membawa maut dianggap sebagai satu kesalahan jenayah.

Before being requisitioned to build a field hospital, Thuan Kieu Plaza was rarely used.

Unvaccinated people do more than merely risk their own health. They're also a risk to everyone if they become infected with coronavirus, infectious disease specialists say.

That's because the only source of new coronavirus variants is the body of an infected person.
"Unvaccinated people are potential variant factories," Dr. William Schaffner, a professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, told CNN Friday.

"The more unvaccinated people there are, the more opportunities for the virus to multiply," Schaffner, a professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, said.

"When it does, it mutates, and it could throw off a variant mutation that is even more serious down the road."
All viruses mutate, and while the coronavirus is not particularly mutation-prone, it does change and evolve.
Most of the changes mean nothing to the virus, and some can weaken it. But sometimes, a virus develops a random mutation that gives it an advantage -- better transmissibility, for instance, or more efficient replication, or an ability to infect a great diversity of hosts.

Viruses with an advantage will outcompete other viruses, and will eventually make up the majority of virus particles infecting someone. If that infected person passes the virus to someone else, they'll be passing along the mutant version.
If a mutant version is successful enough, it becomes a variant.

Transgender woman wins Miss Nevada USA

Kataluna Enriquez, who was crowned Miss Nevada USA on Sunday, will become the first openly transgender woman to compete in the Miss USA pageant.

With a platform centered on transgender awareness and mental health, Enriquez, 27, beat out 21 other contestants at the South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas.

I saw an article about his 19th year death anniversary. I remember reading about him when I was a teenager. Times magazine called him the Teflon Don because law enforcement agencies initially couldn’t convict him despite him being Boss of the Gambino crime family which was one the biggest mafia families in the US. He loved the media attention too much and eventually was convicted together with many high ranking mafia leaders which many say the US mafia never recovered from. There is very good movie about him on YouTube.
