Is having dedicated gpu better or worse?

Hi, I'm planning on getting the hp envy 13
There's 2 versions I care about
1- i5 8th gen, 8gb, 256GB and 150MX
2- i5 8th gen, 8gb, 256GB and Intel hd graphic.
I basically gain nothing from the dedicated graphic card because almost everything I do is chrome, word, and ppw. But I read somewhere that making dedicated gpu handles things such as videos instead of leaving everything to the cpu to handle can decrease the heat generated therefore longer lifetime for the laptop, even if someday the dedicated gpu got fried I will still have the unused Intel hd graphic card ready to go.
But logically not having dedicated gpu means more space for heat distribution and more space for more fans.
I couldn't check if this is true or not.
Note:I'll be connecting this machine to 1080 external monitor, not sure 150mx would be different from the Intel gpu.
What do you think I should go with? And please explain why...
