Hogwarts Legacy is free Epic Game

https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/hogwarts-legacy

Next Free Game On Epic Is Out Now, And It's A Big One

Here's the next game you can play for the low, low price of $0 on the Epic Games Store.

Epic Games has announced the next Epic Games Store freebie, and it's none other than Hogwarts Legacy. The 2023 game from Avalanche Software was a huge hit, selling more than 30 million copies and finishing the year as the No. 1 best-selling game in the US, even beating Call of Duty.

You still have time to claim this week's free games, which are The Darkside Detective and The Jackbox Party Pack 4.

Hogwarts Legacy was a smash hit, but the same could not be said for the following Harry Potter game, Quidditch Champions, which hasn't found much of an audience. A Hogwarts Legacy sequel is now on the way, joining the multiple upcoming Harry Potter projects at Warner Bros., including a new live-action series.

Warner Bros., including the Harry Potter series its future games, could soon be owned by a new company if the company's sale to Netflix or Paramount goes through. Netflix recently said it didn't factor gaming in very much to its bid for Warner Bros. Discovery.

If you're looking for more freebies, you can check out our list of the 25 best free PC games to play in 2025, or for more options, the 25 best free games to play in 2025 on multiple platforms.

Hogwarts Legacy is developed by Avalanche Software, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game has been embroiled in controversy because of transphobic remarks from Harry Potter author JK Rowling. Although she is not personally involved with its development, she stands to profit from its success. For more, read our in-depth article on how Rowling's comments have impacted the trans community. In this article, you will also find links to trans creators you can support, as well as charities you can donate to.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/next-free...e/1100-6536909/

Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD: KL–Kuantan–KL on a single charge — and yes, with zero range anxiety

TLDR/W AI Summary

A Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD (pre-updated model, WLTP range 551km) successfully completed a 500km round trip from Kuala Lumpur (KL) to Kuantan and back to KL on a single charge, eliminating "range anxiety."

The Journey: Covered 498.9km of real-world highway driving (Karak and LPT) without charging stops, averaging an impressive efficiency of 13.33kWh per 100km.

Performance: The car maintained highway speeds, used A/C and ventilated seats, and arrived at the final destination (Pavilion Damansara Heights) with 4% battery remaining.

Key Takeaways:

The Model Y is highly efficient at highway speeds, delivering over 90% of its claimed WLTP range.

Tesla's built-in navigation proved accurate, offering real-time range estimates and tips for efficient driving.

The EV charging infrastructure in Malaysia is growing rapidly, with DC chargers along interstate routes often being underutilized.

Recommendation: While the car can do the trip on one charge, it's recommended for EV owners to adopt a "charge whenever you stop" mindset, as a quick 10-minute DC top-up can add 100km of range.

No Q trademark:

Along the way, we did a quick stop at Petronas Bentong R&R and there was nobody charging at Gentari’s 40kW DC Charger. We saw the same situation as well at Petronas Gambang R&R Eastbound and there were also no EVs plugged in at Gentari’s 180kW DC Charger.

Before we enter LPT, we made a quick stop at Petron Makmur Gambang Jaya 2 to check out TNB Electron’s new two 200kW DC Chargers. To our surprise, there was nobody charging at the location. This just goes to show that there are more DC chargers being deployed but they are still severely underutilised.

After going thru the rain and heavy traffic, we arrived at Pavilion Damansara Heights with 4% battery remaining and that’s where we charged the EV at the Tesla Supercharger. The Supercharger was quite a busy at the time but we didn’t have to queue as there was an empty slot upon arrival.

Read the article here:
https://soyacincau.com/2025/11/14/tesla-mod...e-ev-road-trip/

BBC: Who is Anwar Ibrahim, the Malaysian leader?
Who is Anwar Ibrahim, the Malaysian leader who helped Trump preside over a 'peace deal'?

Kelly NgSingapore

Share

Save

Getty Images

President Donald Trump is greeted by Malaysian PM Anwar when he arrives in Kuala Lumpur in October 2025

"I was in prison but you almost got there," Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim joked to US President Donald Trump as the cameras rolled.

It was a dicey joke - one he quickly moved on from given Trump's less-than amused demeanour - but also arguably one only a veteran politician basking in his recent wins would dare make.

He had just signed a deal with Trump to lower tariffs on Malaysian exports to the US from 24% to 19%. Although many other details remain unclear, any assurance that levies will not rise further is welcome amid all the uncertainty.

But most important of all, Anwar had secured Trump's attendance at a regional summit whose relevance has been repeatedly questioned. The US president was at the meeting of Association of South East Asian Nations, or Asean, in Kuala Lumpur solely to preside over a highly publicised "peace deal" between Thailand and Cambodia, which Anwar orchestrated.

He also brokered the fragile ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia after deadly border clashes earlier this year - he stepped in after Trump threatened to impose tariffs on both sides if the fighting didn't stop.

Some called it a diplomatic victory for Malaysia, while others said Anwar was simply in the right place at the right time - this year, it was the Malaysian PM's turn to lead Asean.

But Anwar would argue he waited 25 years for his turn - a turbulent time in the wings, during which he was jailed twice.

Trump presides over Thai-Cambodia 'peace deal' - but what does it mean?

Trump gives 'toothless' Asian summit its moment in the sun

Tumultuous path to power

Anwar first made his name as a charismatic firebrand student leader who founded Malaysia's Islamic youth movement, ABIM.

In 1982, he joined the long-ruling party United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), surprising many who had expected him to steer clear of the establishment.

But it proved a canny political move - he climbed up the ladder rapidly and held multiple ministerial posts.

Getty Images

Anwar Ibrahim has for decades waited in the wings to lead Malaysia

In 1993, he became deputy to then-prime minister Mahathir Mohamad and was widely seen as his heir-apparent. That was until they fell out over the handling of the Asian financial crisis in 1997, which hit Malaysia hard.

Anwar was sacked the next year, then jailed for sodomy and corruption - charges he denies to this day, arguing they were part of a smear campaign to remove him as a political threat.

In 2004, a year after Mahathir stepped down, Malaysia's Supreme Court overturned the sodomy conviction and freed Anwar. He emerged as the leader of an invigorated opposition, leading it to its strongest-ever performance in the 2013 elections.

Less than a year later, while preparing to fight a state election, new sodomy charges were filed against him, sending him back to jail.

Getty Images

Anwar (L) and Mahathir during the 2018 election campaign

Then in 2016, in a shock turn of events, Mahathir came out of retirement to run for top office, as then-leader Najib Razak faced corruption allegations.

Mahathir, then 92, struck an unlikely deal with the still-imprisoned Anwar, where he promised to free Anwar if elected, and eventually hand over the PM job to him. Their coalition scored a historic victory in 2018, but the alliance began to unravel as the nonagenarian kept shifting the goalposts for handing over power.

In the 2022 election, Anwar's coalition won the most seats but still fell short of the number needed to form a government.

After days of deadlock, the king appointed him PM.

Some thought his term would be short-lived. But nearly three years on, the 78-year-old has already held on to the job for longer than his three predecessors.

Stable but polarised

Anwar's biggest achievement is perhaps the political stability he appears to have brought to a country that has cycled through three prime ministers between 2020 and 2021.

"Malaysia these days is sometimes seen as among the most stable in South East Asia... which has also made it relatively attractive for investors," says Syaza Shukri, a political science professor at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

But cost of living is rising, as it is in so many other countries. In July, 20,000 protesters took to the streets in Kuala Lumpur demanding Anwar's resignation, over rising costs and a lack of economic reforms.

And expensive investments in semiconductor manufacturing and data centres are yet to pay off. That's why the tariff deal with the US was crucial for the export-driven economy.

Others accuse his administration of not doing enough to promote a more inclusive Malaysia in the face of rising Islamism. Religious outrage has sometimes spilled into violence in the Muslim-majoirty country, which also has a sizeable ethnic Chinese population.

In 2024, a convenience store chain sparked an outcry for selling socks printed with the word "Allah" – the Arabic word for God – which many Muslims saw as an insult to Islam. The store was attacked with Molotov cocktail attacks as people called for it to be boycotted and for the company's executives to be charged.

Getty Images

Frustrated with the rising cost of living and lack of reforms, 20,000 protesters took to the streets in July to demand Anwar's resignation

In 2023, a Chinese Muslim restaurant had to publicly apologise after it came under fire over a staff member wearing a crucifix necklace.

"The middle ground for Malaysian politics is no longer a tolerant multiracial Malaysia, but a conservative Malaysia with an Islamic outlook... Anwar's position on political Islam may just move the country to unchartered territory," professor of Asian studies James Chin wrote in a commentary published by CNA.

Critics also accuse Anwar of favouritism and question his anti-corruption pledges - in a contentious move, public prosecutors dropped 47 corruption charges in 2023 against a key Anwar ally, the deputy PM.

The diplomatic dance

Internationally, Anwar has been more successful.

As prime minister, he has a deft balancing act ahead to make sure the emerging, economy he is in charge of doesn't get caught between the US and China.

He had also invited China's leader Xi Jinping to the summit. Xi had made an official visit to Malaysia in April, after a 12-year gap, but he skipped this week's summit.

But Trump's presence was no small thing for South East Asian economies that rely on the US market. It meant other countries, like Thailand and Vietnam, could also discuss details and gain assurances on tariffs - which they would count as a win, for now.

Anwar has been very active on the diplomatic front. Within his first year as PM, he visited all Asean countries, apart from Myanmar, where a civil war has been raging since the army seized power in 2021.

It has been one of Asean's most intractable challenges - while Anwar has been praised for speaking up more on the issue, little has changed on the ground, partly because China has the most influence over the military junta.

Still, Professor Chin believes Anwar has "moved the needle a little" in restoring Asean's relevance.

His role in the Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire also boosted Anwar's standing, but these diplomatic wins mean little to ordinary Malaysians.

Reuters

Anwar (centre), Cambodia's PM Hun Manet (left) and Thailand's acting PM Phumtham Wechayachai attended peace talks in Kuala Lumpur in July

What's resonated at home is his advocacy for the Palestinian cause, which has become louder since the war in Gaza began in 2023.

"Anwar needs to fly the Palestinian flag to the hilt to satisfy public opinion and fortify himself against attacks from opponents who accuse him of not going far enough," says Ariel Tan, coordinator of the Malaysia programme at the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies.

But Anwar also faces a dilemma because he needs to maintain good ties with Washington, Israel's most powerful ally, Ms Tan says.

"Since Trump's re-election, he has reduced his criticism of the United States' role in the conflict. Engaging the US has become more critical, particularly with the tariff threat."

The question is, will Anwar be able to balance the demands at home with those abroad, and start to replicate his international success on a local stage?

The answer to that will be crucial to his survival in the next election, due in 2028

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clykv99zrnro

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/758892

Mansuh matrikulasi, jadikan STPM piawaian tunggal

Umany: Mansuh matrikulasi, jadikan STPM piawaian tunggal masuk universiti

Tetapi dia kecewa apabila enam universiti menolak permohonannya.

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/754989

Previous UMANY member:

Malaysia Takes Lead in SEA’s Auto Market

Malaysia overtakes Indonesia as ASEAN’s leading car market, Thailand shows recovery amid Japanese exit

Malaysia surpasses Indonesia in ASEAN car sales, with Thailand showing signs of recovery, but Japanese brands continue to withdraw from the market.

The ASEAN car market has entered a new era as Malaysia overtakes Indonesia to become the leading car market in the region for the first time. This milestone comes as Vietnam accelerates efforts to surpass the Philippines, positioning itself as the fourth-largest market in ASEAN. While Thailand shows signs of recovery, Japanese car manufacturers continue to gradually withdraw from the region.

In the second quarter of this year, ASEAN car sales indicated a key shift, with Malaysia surpassing Indonesia, despite Indonesia's larger population of 280 million, compared to Malaysia’s 34 million. This change reflects a growing trend in ASEAN car markets, as Thailand’s sales were reported at 707,055 units, a slight decline of 1% compared to the previous year, according to data from Nikkei Asia. The trend signals a new dynamic in the region’s automotive market.

Malaysia’s National Brands Drive Market Growth

Despite economic uncertainties across ASEAN, Malaysia’s domestic car brands—Perodua and Proton—continue to lead the market, making up 63% of sales in the first half of the year. Popular models like the Perodua Alza and Proton Saga dominated the top-selling spots, alongside international brands like Toyota Vios and Honda City.

Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota, and Geely, which holds a 49.9% stake in Proton, have supported these local manufacturers, with both Perodua and Proton regarded as national car producers receiving indirect government backing for their role in national development.

The rise in popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid cars has also boosted Malaysia’s car market, with EV sales increasing by 91% year-on-year, totalling 12,733 units, while hybrid car sales grew 12%, reaching 17,480 units in the first half of 2025.

Indonesia Faces Economic Pressure

For Indonesia, despite its large population, it is currently experiencing economic pressure, especially in the automotive sector. Car sales in June dropped by 21%, a significant decline for the first time since March 2024, due to weakening purchasing power in the middle class and stricter consumer credit conditions. The sales slump in June led to a 12% decline in total sales for the second quarter.

Danamon Bank economists stated that the decline in sales is mainly due to the weakened purchasing power of the middle class and the tightened credit conditions for consumers. Furthermore, data from the Central Statistics Agency of Indonesia (BPS) revealed a significant contraction in the middle class, dropping from 21.4% of the population in 2019 to just 17.1% in 2024. This shift is impacting not only the automotive industry but also various sectors that rely heavily on middle-class consumers.

Vietnam on Track to Become ASEAN's 4th Largest Car Market

Vietnam is set to surpass the Philippines and become the 4th largest car market in ASEAN. In the second quarter of 2025, Vietnam’s car sales increased by 18%, reaching 90,772 units. Although this was below the previous four quarters’ consistent 20% growth, the figure still represents a high growth rate. Despite concerns from manufacturers regarding the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, Vietnam’s exports to the US remain robust.

Vietnam’s GDP grew by 7.52% in the first half of 2025, the highest in 15 years, bolstered by a rising middle class, which is also supporting automobile sales. Notably, VinFast, the national electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, sold 87,000 electric vehicles domestically in 2024. As a result, Vietnam’s car market could soon overtake the Philippines, making it the fourth-largest in the region.

Thailand Shows EV Recovery

In Thailand, the third-largest car market in ASEAN, car sales increased by 3.6% in the second quarter of 2025, reaching 149,501 units. This marks the first quarterly increase since Q3 2022, with a 1% increase in April, the first growth in nearly two years. The recovery has primarily been driven by the rising sales of electric vehicles.

According to the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT), total EV sales from January to June surged by 33%, amounting to 69,005 units, which represents 23% of total car sales in the same period, reaching 302,704 units.

However, several Japanese car manufacturers are reducing their operations in Thailand:

Honda plans to cease production at its Ayutthaya plant this year and consolidate production at its Prachinburi plant.
Suzuki Motor intends to close its Thai subsidiary’s car assembly plant by end-2025.
Nissan is restructuring its production in Thailand, merging domestic lines and shifting production from Argentina to Brazil, while preparing to close one of its two plants in Thailand, with an annual capacity of 220,000 units.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) announced last week that it has lowered its forecast for car production in 2025 from 1.5 million units to 1.45 million units, a 1% decrease from the previous year.

https://www.nationthailand.com/business/automobile/40053649

https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesias...in-on-sales-gap

Malaysia’s Price War Nightmare? - MAA

The early bird doesn’t always catch the worm, at least not anymore these days. The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) opines that the car price war in Malaysia, which has seen price cuts and discounts in a bid to chase sales, is neither good for the industry nor owners in the long term.

“I think discounting is always good for the short term, but it’s not good for the long term, especially for customers. Eventually the car’s value will drop further – especially for the early buyer, you will actually lose out, and it will create a much more non-effective way of selling, because it will be short term,” said president Mohd Shamsor Mohd Zain.

“Of course, definitely there must be some kind of promotions, but overdoing it is always not good. Basically I think we’re all on the same page about that,” he added.

Here are some examples of the latest offers – Honda is currently giving up to RM10k off, Toyota up to RM10.5k, Proton RM15k, Chery RM16k, Mitsubishi RM18k, Nissan RM22k and Peugeot RM30k – and that’s even before we go into EVs, where the drops are almost diabolical.

2025-Proton-eMas7-New-Variant-Interior-Alabaster-White-22025_BYD_Atto3_Ultra_Malaysia_Ext-12024 Chery Omoda E5 Launch Malaysia_Ext-31
Proton recently said it won’t be joining the price war in Malaysia in a bid to protect resale values – even though it arguably started the war in the first place by significantly undercutting the BYD Atto 3 (it has since decided to make the RM4,000 ‘early bird discount’ permanent).

BYD responded with the Atto 3 Ultra in March – down RM26k to RM124k (RM119k with rebate). The Atto 3 was launched in end-2022 for RM168k, so that’s a near-RM50k drop. Then the Chery Omoda E5 joined the party with a RM27,000 cut to make RM119,818 for 2024 units. This became a RM98,818 clearance sale in May. The electric Omoda was launched in March 2024 for RM146,800.

More recently, smaller players like the GAC Aion Y Plus and Leapmotor C10 also had to drop their RRPs just to remain in the frame. The latter, which has the biggest body, gets improved specs and is now priced at RM125,000 – it was launched in October 2024 for RM159,000, or RM149,000 with an early bird discount. There are also 2024 units going for RM110k.

SOS Kicap

‘He must die’: Jake Paul screams in-the-ring promise after slap by Mike Tyson

Iron Mike slapped the YouTuber-turned-boxer as they faced off during their ceremonial weigh-in.

Mike Tyson, left, slaps Jake Paul during a weigh-in ahead of their heavyweight bout,(Julio Cortez/AP) (AP)

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul has screamed some fighting words into the microphone moments after his ceremonial weigh-in with Mike Tyson, moments after he was slapped across the face by the former world heavyweight champion.

Paul and Tyson both weighed in on Thursday at the Toyota Music Factory in Irving, Texas, with the two giving viewers a sneak peek of what is to come when they meet in the ring on Friday.

As Tyson strode across the stage, a clearly eager Paul, 27, popped up in front of the 58 year old, earning the YouTouber-turned-boxer a slap across the face.

The crowd in attendance gasped while Tyson had to be held back.

Paul, however, seemed unfazed. Instead, he blew kisses at the former champion.

“Talking’s over,” Tyson said, before exiting with his entourage.

In the moments after the slap, Paul said: “I didn’t even feel it.

“He’s angry. He’s an angry little elf.”

He added: “Mike Tyson, I thought that was a cute slap.”

The 27-year-old then launched into a series of expletive-laden remarks, promising to end Iron Mike in the upcoming fight.

“It’s personal now,” Paul added, before bellowing into the microphone: “He must die.”

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson (50-6, 44KOs) will step back into the ring for his first professional bout in 19 years at AT&T Stadium in the bout, which will be streamed on Netflix.

Tyson took part in an exhibition with Roy Jones Jr in 2020 but will be up against an opponent 31 years his junior on Friday.

Given the considerable age gap between the fighters, Paul has been installed as the favorite.

Tyson weighed in at 227.2 pounds (103kg), while Paul tipped the scales at 228.4 pounds (103.6kg).

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/texas-i...r-b2647621.html

[attachmentid=11505980]

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Netflix Malaysia

- Elon Musk's fortune surpasses $300 billion, driven by a 30% surge in Tesla's stock following Donald Trump's election win.
- Musk’s wealth enables potential acquisitions of numerous S&P 500 companies, including Chevron and Coca-Cola.

- Elon Musk's net worth stands at a staggering $305 billion, significantly outpacing Larry Ellison, who is second on the list with $230.9 billion. The difference between their fortunes is a whopping *$74.6 billion*, illustrating Musk's leading position by a large margin. This gap underscores Musk's unparalleled financial standing, fueled by the success of Tesla and his other ventures.

Elon Musk's fortune skyrocketed past $300 billion on Friday, fueled by a sharp rally in Tesla Inc.'s stock after Donald Trump's election as the 47th U.S. president.

According to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires List, Musk’s net worth reached $305 billion, distantly followed by Oracle Inc. co-founder Larry Ellison at around $231 billion, and Amazon.com Inc.'s Jeff Bezos, who trails at approximately $225 billion.

Musk is now more than $100 billion richer than Meta Platform Inc.'s CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The electric carmaker's shares rocketed nearly 30% over the week, driving the company's market capitalization beyond the $1 trillion mark and delivering Musk a massive windfall.

Other than deriving much of his wealth from Tesla, Musk has also diversified his fortune in SpaceX, founded in 2002, which is worth nearly $210 billion based on a tender offer launched during the second half of 2024. Musk owns an estimated 42% stake.

Musk bought Twitter in a $44 billion (enterprise value) deal in 2022, although Forbes estimates that the social media company, which he renamed X, is worth nearly 70% less as of August 2024.

Musk owns an estimated 60% of xAI, which he founded in 2023. Private investors valued the company at $24 billion in May 2024.

*RANK	NAME	NET WORTH*
1. Elon Musk	$305.5 billion
2. Larry Ellison	$230.9 billion
3. Jeff Bezos	$225.5 billion
4. Mark Zuckerberg	$203.4 billion
5. Bernard Arnault & Family	$165.6 billion

*Why Trump's Victory Was A Big Win For Musk*

Trump's stance on tariffs, specifically on vehicles imported from Europe and China, could potentially make it tougher for foreign carmakers to compete in the U.S. market — an advantage that could drive up Tesla's market share on its home turf.

A Trump presidency would likely mean the end of EV subsidies and tax credits during Tesla’s second-quarter earnings call.

The impact would be slight for Tesla and devastating for its competitors. “But long term probably actually helps Tesla, would be my guess, yes,” Musk has said.

Musk has also been an active political backer for Trump's 2024 campaign, reportedly donating over $130 million to support his re-election efforts.

Trump’s victory speech didn't shy away from showing gratitude either.

As Forbes highlighted, Trump took nearly 4 minutes in his first speech to praise Musk, calling him a "super genius" and highlighting Tesla's achievements, from SpaceX's rocket launches to the expanding satellite internet network.

"A star is born — Elon!" Trump declared.

Musk has expressed enthusiasm about heading a proposed Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E.), where he'd lead efforts to trim wasteful spending from the federal budget. Trump touted Musk as the ideal candidate to serve as the "Secretary of Cost-Cutting," potentially overseeing an ambitious plan to slash $2 trillion in federal expenses.

*Musk’s Wealth Outpaces 475 S&P 500 Companies*

To put his wealth into perspective, Musk could theoretically buy out companies in the S&P 500 with valuations smaller than his own, a list as big as 474 names.

Major corporations like Chevron, valued at $287 billion, and The Coca-Cola Company at $276 billion, are now "within reach" for Musk's personal fortune.

With $305 billion, Musk could also theoretically acquire three companies in the $100 billion range, like Prologis, Deere & Company, and Lam Research Corporation, with cash to spare.

https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-tran...ism-2024-11-08/

Gomen Servant Bankruptcy Rates Soar

Approximately 10 to 13 percent of new bankruptcy cases registered between 2021 and this year involve public servants, said the Director General of the Department of Insolvency Malaysia (MdI), Datuk M Bakri Abd Majid.

He stated that the concerning data indicates a rising trend year after year, even though national bankruptcy data shows a decline.

Based on MdI's open data, he said the individual bankruptcy statistics from the public sector were 12 percent in 2020, 10 percent in 2021, 11 percent in 2022, 13 percent in 2023, and 14 percent so far this year.

"The failure of public officials to manage their finances well not only affects individuals and families but also the ecosystem of the country's public service.

"For public servants declared bankrupt, disciplinary action can be taken due to serious indebtedness, which also tarnishes the image of the public service, subsequently affecting opportunities for salary increases and promotions, as well as eligibility for bonuses and financial assistance," he said in a statement today.

He explained that in some cases, there are public servants who apply for bankruptcy for themselves to relieve prolonged debt pressure.

On the department's side, M Bakri stated that department heads should monitor the debt levels of their staff under their supervision and be sensitive to any behavioral changes.

"Early preventive actions should be taken by increasing activities related to personal financial management, and the department can also collaborate with qualified financial experts or advisors to discuss matters related to financial management," he said, adding that the failure of a department head to carry out their responsibilities could invite corruption and misuse of power within the department.

Regarding the Public Service Salary System (SSPA) with better salary adjustments, he said that although it alleviates the anxiety of public servants, there are still parties willing to take advantage of the situation by offering new 'unhealthy' loans to negligent public servants specifically.

M Bakri stated that this 'vicious cycle' needs to be stopped to prevent further hindering the cash flow of public servants, and the role of all parties, including department heads, is crucial to curb this issue.

"In line with the announcement of new salaries, public sector workers are seen as promising changes in working methods or improved productivity; however, it is not just these two aspects, but a change in mindset is also necessary," he said.

- Bernama

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/718540

Why SG4 is a bad idea?

1st lets talk GDP for each state:
Terengganu: Approximately RM 40 billion
Kedah: Approximately RM 50 billion
Perlis: Approximately RM 5 billion
Kelantan: Approximately RM 30 billion

Reasons why SG4 might be considered a bad idea:

1. **Political Agenda**: The formation seems more about politics than genuine economic improvement, which could lead to poor decisions.

2. **Instability Risk**: If the PN government changes in any state, it could create uncertainty and disrupt SG4's operations.

3. **Conflict of Interests**: With four states involved, disagreements on management could arise, making it hard to work together effectively.

4. **Unequal Benefits**: Sharing profits equally might upset states that contribute more, leading to tensions.

5. **Inexperience**: This is the first time multiple states are collaborating in a single company, which could lead to management issues.

6. **Mismanagement Risk**: Having many stakeholders could result in poor decision-making and accountability problems.

7. **Economic Sustainability**: The business model may not be viable long-term, risking financial troubles for all states involved.

8. **Public Distrust**: If people see SG4 as politically motivated, it could harm its reputation and ability to attract support.

In summary, while SG4 aims to promote collaboration, the potential challenges could outweigh its benefits.

A member of the Umno Supreme Working Council (MKT) today questioned the fate of SG4 Group Sdn Bhd (SG4 Group) if the Perikatan Nasional (PN) state government falls in one or two of the states that established it.

According to Mohd Puad Zarkashi, this is not impossible and claims that the move is not to help any state but is purely politically motivated.

“What will happen to SG4 if one or two PN state governments change hands?

“Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis could very well be reclaimed by BN.

“There will be many problems regarding workers, assets, shares, and the board of directors. It has never happened that four states share a single company,” he said in a Facebook post.

Yesterday, the Chief Advisory Panel of SG4, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, announced that Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis have taken joint steps to share wealth by forming SG4.

He stated that each state will have equal interests in the company.

According to Mahathir, the company is owned 25 percent by each state so that even the most lagging states, like Perlis, can benefit.

Moreover, he said, the profits from SG4 will be distributed fairly.

Further commenting, Puad sarcastically mocked the Chief Minister of Kedah, Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, whom he accused of not liking to share.

“Sanusi also does not like to share. Afraid Sanusi will say, ‘Kedah has been losing since God created this world.’

“Thus, the establishment of SG4 is politically motivated, not a business venture. Especially since its advisor is Tun (Dr) Mahathir,” he added.

Yesterday, at a press conference during the SG4 Summit in Bangi, Selangor, Sanusi emphasized that they will bring the issue of raw water charge claims against Penang to court for a decision.

This is because Kedah has been suffering significant losses for a long time, and Penang itself suggested that it be referred to the court.

When asked about the losses incurred by Kedah due to the water supply to its neighboring state, Sanusi said, “Kedah has been losing since God created this world, I don’t know how much.”

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/717885
Kedah demands RM50 Million a Year from Penang!

So we (Kedah) will do it.

"They (the Penang government) are the ones who suggested it, not that I want to take action," he said at a press conference during the S4G Summit in Bangi, Selangor, today.

When asked about the losses incurred by Kedah due to the water supply to its neighboring state, Sanusi said: "Kedah has been losing since God created this world, I don't know how much."

Also present were Terengganu's Chief Minister Ahmad Samsuri Mohktar, Kelantan's Chief Minister Mohd Nasurruddin Daud, and Perlis' Chief Minister Mohd Shukri Ramli.

Sanusi made this statement while commenting on Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow's remarks regarding the ongoing issue of raw water charge payments to Kedah that has persisted since 2010.

Chow had previously stated that if the Kedah government is serious about the claim, they should initiate the demand through the court so that the matter can be resolved according to the law.

"I have stated my position many times on the same issue, and usually, I ask the Kedah government that if they are serious, they should start the claim through the court so that the court can decide on this matter.

"Because it is clear from a legal standpoint, we are taking water from our border," he said, as quoted in a report by Harian Metro last Tuesday.

According to Sanusi, through the initiated court process, Kedah will claim an amount of RM50 million per year from Penang.

"We will demand RM50 million per year," he said.

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/717817
Demands Ban on Comic Glorifying Communist Leader!

In a jaw-dropping twist, Umno is pushing for the immediate ban of the controversial comic "Inisiatif Jalur dan Jalan Meraih Manfaat Bersama" (BRI) by former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau! This comic is accused of glorifying the notorious Chin Peng, the infamous leader of the Communist Party of Malaya, and spreading dangerous communist ideologies.

Umno's Mohd Puad Zarkashi is not holding back, claiming that this comic poses a serious threat to Malaysia's stability and is a subtle attempt to promote communism. Following a recent court ruling that allowed the comic's publication, many are left outraged and demanding action from the government!

Despite the comic being cleared by the courts, critics argue it undermines the monarchy and could incite unrest. Puad insists that the government must take a stand to protect the nation from this "dangerous" material, which he believes could sway public opinion in favor of communism.

The comic, which celebrates 45 years of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, paints a rosy picture of China and its Belt and Road Initiative while casting the West in a negative light. But does it really deserve the backlash it’s receiving?

As tensions rise, even within the government, questions are swirling: Can Malaysia afford to ignore the sensitivities of its Malay Muslim majority? Will Umno succeed in its quest to ban this comic once and for all?

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/715505

Perseids Meteor Shower TONIGHT!

Malaysian will have a unique opportunity to witness the Perseid Meteor Shower, with up to 100 ‘shooting stars’ expected each hour from 9 PM on August 12 to dawn on August 13. It was mentioned that the last time the comet approached Earth was in 1992 and it is expected to come close to Earth again in 2126.

KUALA LUMPUR: Local astronomy enthusiasts have the opportunity to witness a unique celestial phenomenon known as the Perseid meteor shower tonight. According to the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA), the event is expected to continue until dawn on August 13, with an average of 100 meteors per hour crossing the skies of the country. The visibility of this meteor shower in Malaysia is predicted to be good because the moon will set at midnight during the peak of the phenomenon.

The meteor shower occurs regularly as the Earth orbits the sun, as the planet must pass through the orbital path of the Swift-Tuttle comet, which has a nucleus with a diameter of 26 kilometers. This celestial body typically takes about 133 years to complete one orbit, and it last approached Earth in 1992. The comet is predicted to come close to Earth again in 2126, but it frequently orbits near the sun, which causes its debris to be released.

This situation arises due to the sublimation process, which scatters debris along its path, eventually leading to the dust entering the Earth's atmosphere. The remnants of the comet burn up, creating a long streak of light similar to the image of a meteor shower in the sky. Those wishing to observe this phenomenon clearly are advised to find a dark area, preferably far from any light pollution.

The Perseid meteor shower has been observed by humans for over 2,000 years and is named because its point of origin appears to come from the constellation Perseus, named after a hero from Greek mythology. It is considered the most prolific meteor shower and typically appears in the sky, especially in the northern hemisphere of the planet, from mid-July to the end of August.

So far, the record for the peak observation rate of the Perseid meteor shower is 173 meteors per hour, recorded by international astronomy scientists on August 13, 2009.

https://www.astroawani.com/berita-malaysia/...alam-ini-483077

UiTM's Closed-Mindedness: Who's Really to Blame?"

The knife in the doctor's hand will not discriminate

The knife in the doctor's hand will not discriminate, so said academic expert Tajuddin Rasdi in response to the objections of the Student Representative Council (MPP) of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

The architecture professor said he was "sad" when he learned that the MPP opposed the proposal to allow non-Bumiputera students to enroll in the postgraduate cardiothoracic surgery program at UiTM.

However, Tajuddin raised the question of whether students or educators should be blamed for maintaining this "closed-mindedness."

"The council's action is a reflection of the education philosophy in Malaysia," he told Malaysiakini.

"Universities should prepare their students to face global challenges.

"However, in this case, it appears that knowledge of a closed construct is being conveyed to instill the belief that their survival depends on protection," he said.

The UCSI university lecturer said that although maintaining this fear may benefit certain political interests, academics should strive to free their students from such constraints.

"What kind of education are you providing? Are you preparing students to work in a borderless world? In the era of globalization, it's no longer just about Malaysia.

"Or are you planting the same seeds that have been sown for decades, telling them that without special privileges or protection, they cannot compete with others?" he added.

Tajuddin said that students should also realize that the funding for their universities comes from taxpayers of various races in Malaysia, and having more cardiothoracic surgeons will save more lives, including Bumiputeras.

"So, it's a humanitarian issue, not a racial issue. The (parallel pathway proposal) is described as a temporary measure until another solution is found.

"Therefore, it is unfortunate that this issue has been framed in a racial context when it involves saving lives," he said.

Tajuddin also referred to recent news reports about a Malaysian doctor, Ashok Kannan, who treated patients in Palestine in Rafah.

"I have read many comments praising this doctor for risking his life to help the Palestinian people. But in Malaysia, the tone is different. It is disappointing," he added.

Last Wednesday, Higher Education Minister Zambry Abd Kadir reiterated that the proposal to open UiTM admissions to non-Bumiputera students was never discussed in ministerial meetings or the Cabinet.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported a doctor in Sabah recalling the trauma he experienced when witnessing the final moments of a seven-month pregnant woman's death due to a lack of cardiothoracic surgeons.

https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/705809
