Their total value was about RM6.7 million.

The owners of more than 200 premises have been charged, and have paid about RM20,000 in compounded fines. Seven cases were continuing in court, he added.

Most victims only realise they have bought knock-offs when they send their mobile phones to authorised dealers for servicing.

Many counterfeits were of Nokia and Korean giant Samsung mobile phones, he said.

It's a lucrative business as dealers charge at least three times what they paid.

Assemblers made almost 10 times the cost of the phones they put together, he added.

Roslan urged those who bought such mobile phones to make a complaint through the ministry, and to file claims for refunds through the Consumer Claims Tribunal.

"To avoid buying fakes, consumers should buy from authorised dealers.

"They must also ensure the handphones have original Sirim logos."

Source : http://www.nst.com.my/NST/Article/vArt?did=20070328073903

Now, question is.
