Iran's then Soleimani relatives green card revoked

The niece and grand-niece of the deceased commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Gen Qasem Soleimani, have been arrested, the US state department has said.

Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter's lawful US permanent resident status was revoked by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a statement released on Saturday said.

However, Soleimani's daughter has called the state department's claims false, saying the arrested individuals "have no connection whatsoever" to her father.

Soleimani, who was Iran's most powerful military commander, was killed in 2020 in a US air strike in Iraq which was ordered by then US President Donald Trump.

In a post on social media, Rubio said the two women were in the custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), pending removal from the country.

He added in the statement on X that Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were "green card holders living lavishly in the United States".

After entering the US on a tourist visa in 2015, Soleimani Afshar was granted asylum in 2019 and became a green card holder in 2021, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement to the BBC's US partner CBS News.

In filing for a naturalisation application in 2025, she revealed that she had visited Iran four times since receiving her green card, according to the DHS.

"Her trips to Iran illustrate her asylum claims were fraudulent," the DHS said.

The DHS added that Soleimani Afshar's daughter, Sarinasadat Hosseiny, came to the US in 2015 on a student visa and was later granted asylum in 2019 and a green card in 2023.

The state department said Soleimani Afshar was an "outspoken supporter of the totalitarian, terrorist regime in Iran" and had promoted "Iranian regime propaganda" on her social media account.

Soleimani Afshar's husband has also been barred from the US, the statement said. The state department did not name Soleimani Afshar's husband.

In a statement, Narjes Soleimani, Soleimani's daughter, said: "The individuals arrested in the US have no connection whatsoever to Martyr Soleimani and the claims made by the US State Department are false."

She added that the US had "become so weak and insignificant" and was "fabricating lies against a great figure".

The BBC has contacted the state department for comment.

Soleimani spearheaded Iranian military operations in the Middle East as head of Iran's elite Quds Force.

The 62-year-old was killed at Baghdad airport, along with other Iran-backed militia figures.

Trump spoke about Soleimani during his national address on Wednesday, referencing the strike he ordered on the commander.

"I killed Gen Qasem Soleimani in my first term. He was an evil genius, brilliant person, a horrible human being however, the father of the roadside bomb, and he lived just horrible, what he did," Trump said.

He added that Iran would have been "perhaps in a far better, stronger position" in the war if Soleimani was still alive.

Pan-Singapore Islamic Party say blind boxes offered in Singapore will soon be regulated, following a review by the authorities.

In a written reply to a parliamentary question on Feb 12, Home Affairs Minister Tok Guru K. Shanmugam said the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) have studied the issue and have decided to introduce regulations.

The regulations, which are currently being drafted, will stipulate conditions under which blind boxes may be offered here, to better manage gambling inducement risks, he added.

He was responding to a question from Tuan Haji Dennis Tan (Hougang) about whether the Government intends to legislate mandatory and standardised disclosure of odds and probability ranges for blind-box or “gacha” products.

Tok Guru Shanmugam said Tuan Haji Tan’s suggestion will be among the points considered for the regulations.

Blind boxes are sealed boxes that contain a random collectible, such as a figurine, toy or accessory.

Buyers purchase blind boxes not knowing what collectible they will get, with the odds of getting specific collectibles not always disclosed explicitly by manufacturers.

PETALING JAYA: Umno Puchong memutuskan kerjasama dengan Pakatan Harapan (PH) susulan kegagalan Setiausaha Publisiti DAP Yeo Bee Yin memohon maaf di atas hantaran ‘meraikan’ keputusan penolakan rayuan tahanan rumah bekas perdana menteri Najib Razak.

Setiausahanya Mohamad Yusof Mohamed Yassin berkata berkuat kuasa serta merta tiada lagi kerjasama di peringkat Parlimen diwakili Yeo selain DUN Seri Serdang dan Seri Kembangan.

Menurutnya, Umno Puchong tidak lagi terikat dengan sebarang persefahaman tidak rasmi atau mempertahankan kepentingan politik PH dan bebas mengambil pendirian sendiri dalam semua isu tempatan.

“Keputusan ini membawa mesej yang kami tidak bersetuju dan menolak sikap, kenyataan serta tindakan pemimpin PH Puchong.

“Kami juga berpandangan maruah parti, prinsip Perlembagaan Persekutuan serta penghormatan terhadap institusi Raja-Raja Melayu telah dicabar dan tidak dihormati,” katanya dalam kenyataan.

Sebagai rekod, Umno tidak mempunyai wakil rakyat dan menguasai DUN di bawah Parlimen Puchong.

Isnin lalu, Yeo memuat naik hantaran berkata “Satu lagi sebab untuk raikan hujung tahun ini”, susulan keputusan Mahkamah Tinggi Kuala Lumpur menolak permohonan Najib untuk menjalani baki hukuman penjara enam tahun sebagai tahanan rumah, atas alasan tiada mekanisme undang-undang yang membolehkan ia dilaksanakan.

Najib, 72, sebelum ini disabitkan atas kesalahan menyeleweng RM42 juta dana milik SRC International dan sedang menjalani hukuman di Penjara Kajang bermula 23 Ogos 2022.

Kenyataan tersebut mengundang kecaman Setiausaha Agung Umno Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, yang melabel tindakan Yeo sebagai ‘amat kurang ajar, melampau dan langsung tidak berperikemanusian’.

Asyraf juga berkata, mungkin sudah tiba masanya Umno menilai kembali jalinan kerjasama ‘jika masih ada pihak yang tidak mahu menghargai sumbangan dan perjuangan Umno selama ini’.

Ayam disappointed to find out when ayam about to renew driver's license at JPJ, not only there isn't cash payment option, they no longer issue physical card, they force ayam use their app.

Ayam know still got physical option, but have to show proof of staying overseas. This feels like corporate ripoff subscription madness. First they package downgrade as upgrade, then they surcharge what is originally offered.
