Car Porch Flooring

Currently looking at flooring alternatives for a 2k sqft car porch.

Current porch was tiled many years ago (6"x6" type).

Considered plain concrete or re-tiling but they are too mainstream.

Looked at epoxy but it is overpriced (epoxy costs about the same as concrete in other countries but is x2 the cost of tiles here).

Really wanted to go for SPC Flooring but was told that it's not suitable outdoor.

And then I looked at wet pour of SBR & EPDM rubber flooring (those running track type) but no reviews as to whether it lasts long or not under car pressure.

Anyone did their outdoor flooring differently?

Hey guys, currently doing swing door.

Was planning to get 5mm super white glass with 4" frame swing door + white gloss sticker for bathroom.

The aluminium guy recommended that i get white glossy aluminium composite panel instead of the glass at same price since it has the same glossy white effect.

Just want to ask anyone who did this aluminium composite panel before, am i getting short changed?

Maybe it will feel less solid due to lower weight, less soundproof than glass or easy to bend etc etc?

Thanks.

Hi, i am planning to relocate TNB meter from outside the door of my house to gate pillar.

The wire route is now is via overhead. I am wondering if i relocate TNB meter to the gate pillar, will it be:

a) Current overhead wire is used back > underground route from door of my house to gate pillar; OR

b) Pulling a new wire from nearby pole (the pole is just across the pillar), but doesn't this mean the road will need to be hacked to conceal the wire underground?

Thanks.

[WTA] Autogate Wiring

Is it correct to assume that we need 12 core armour cable from DB to control box for autogate, pillar light and doorbell?

1) 3 core for power (L, N & E)
2) 4 core for switch
3) 2 core for 2 pillar lights
4) 2 core for single door bell
5) 1 core (spare)

And then 4 core from control box to left pillar and another 4 core from control box to right pillar.

Questions:

1) For pillar light and doorbell, do we pull straight from DB to pillar light/doorbell or DB > control box > pillar light/doorbell?

2) Why 4 core for switch? Open/close needs 2 signal wires, then 2 more signal wires is to control open left only and right only gate? Assuming folding gate.

3) Do we lay separate armour cable for the switch signal cable and doorbell? Or straight use 1 cable? Reason being the signal wire/doorbell wire does not need to be 2.5mm wire.

Thanks.

Hi guys,

Anyone using steel door frame purchased from normal hardware store? Those RM 65-85/pc one.

Seen a few comments that the factory welded hinges will not be able to handle solid wood doors.

Is there any truth to this?

If so, is the option of Merpauh/Nyatoh out? 82" x 32" door size.

How about KSK/Meranti? Will they make a difference since they are more lightweight, presumably?

Using for bedroom, so privacy/noise blocking is important.

How about aluminium doors? Are they any good for noise blocking?

Thanks.

[WTA] Painting Old Walls

Hi guys,

What's the correct sequence for painting old house's walls?

What my painter and other painters around my area did was scrub a little > skim coat > sealer > 1 coat of maxilite > 2 coats of finishing

But i saw from some threads they said after sealer should apply finish coat and it's unnecessary to do maxilite.

I myself think that maxilite is unnecessary as well as it is usually powdery and will do more bad than good since the finishing coat cannot adhere to it due to dusty and powdery surface.

But there must be a reason for painters to do the maxilite coat isn't it? Because I cannot imagine them not wanting to save costs by skipping the maxilite step.

Thanks.

Hi guys,

Can i know what's the standard gate column size in Malaysia? 3'x3'? Saw some doing 3' wide 2' depth is that normal?

What about the standard depth/thickness of the fencing? 5" or 9"?

Also, i have around 34' width of space so what's the recommended width of space that i should leave between the 2 gate columns for practicability & aesthetically?

Going for this type of style:

Assuming 34', minus 6' (2x gate columns), minus 3' (1x small entry door), 1' (width of 2x L shape brick stand) i still have 24' of space left for gate and fencing.

So 20' gate space, 4' fencing?

Also, nowadays we are required to put rubbish bin provided by the gov which means we can no longer incorporate rubbish chamber into the column, so any idea to make it easier to throw rubbish into the bin outside the house without going outside?

Thanks.

What’s the typical rate per sqft for brick fencing with 2 concrete gate column with reinforced steel.

Assuming 6ft high. Plaster finish without painting.

Searched around and some mentioned rm 12 psf some mentioned rm 25 psf so not sure what’s the correct one.

I got quoted rm 45 psf from 2 contractors. But seems on the high side and am wondering if i should get more quotations from other contractors.

Shower Screen

Currently planning to do L shape corner entry shower screen for my bathroom like this:

[attachmentid=10335319]

But everywhere i see the min size needed is 900mm x 900mm (Onitek & Reliance included).

The space i have is a little smaller (800mm x 820mm). Already asked 1-2 glass guy to come over and they said too small to do L shape because the door will be small and hence wobbly (due to less weight).

So does it help if i increase the glass thickness to 12mm to increase the weight to provide stable sliding movement?

Since Onitek & Reliance seems to be using 6mm glass only so even with 900mm space they may not be as heavy as 800mm with 12mm glass.

Appreciate the help.

(WTA) Roof remodeling

Hi, planning to change the entire roof of my 2-storey house from concrete tiles (Gable roof type) to flat concrete slab.

Anyone done the above before? Contractor kept saying the old structures (beams) are enough to withstand the new roof because as per him, old house usually has more beams than necessarily needed as compared to new house and hence has higher load capacity.

Despite the above assurance by him, I am still quite worried as i know concrete slab is very very heavy so i am trying to see if anyone here has done it before.

I am planning measure the size of every horizontal/vertical beams that i can identify on my second floor and get a structural engineer to measure the live and dead load that the beams can support but for some areas i can't identify if the wall is a wall bearing wall or merely a brick wall.

Also, i was quoted RM 15k for manpower only (not including materials) to tear the current roof and build the concrete slab. Reasonable?

Around 7.47m width and 15.08m length of concrete slab with 4 inch (0.1m) thick.

Rough calculations for materials should be RM 2400/tonne of tensile steel and 11m3 of grade 45 concrete pump mix (RM 250/m3 x 11 = RM 2750) so around RM 5150 materials just for the concrete slab.

This is excluding the purchase of wood to support the slab, rental of extension ladders and etc.

Many thanks.
