PETALING JAYA: A list of potential Covid-19 hotspots will be published by the government starting today, as the movement control order is reimposed in certain states.

The Health Ministry is expected to reveal the Hotspots Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system and the list of potential hotspots that it predicts.

Anyone knows where to find this HIDE system? Is it still hiding?

Battery Capacity Drop Drastically within months

I purchased this Dell Inspiron 14 (3476) laptop early 2019. At that time, I can use the laptop for approximately 3 to 4 hours of light usage.

This year, I noticed that the battery life has dropped drastically. Upon checking the battery report, I was surprised to see that the battery capacity has dropped from >30,000 mWh (~80% capacity) to 12,772 mWh (30% capacity) within several months.

Why does the battery degrade so fast? Is it time for me to replace it so soon? Or is there any other factors for me to check on the laptop? Thanks in advance.

KUALA LUMPUR: Muhammed, a foreign student, came to Malaysia in 2019 to do his masters in business administration at a premier private university here, with plans to make a success of himself when he goes home. Just a year later, the accreditation for the course was taken away.

Now, even if Muhammed finishes the course, he will be left with a degree that’s worthless. But he is not alone.

Some 800 foreign and local students at the university have been left in the lurch after the university could not get accreditation for many of its courses.

The students said the accreditation was revoked by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) for failing to maintain certain quality and standards required by the authorities.

During a press conference at the DAP headquarters here today, Muhammed said the course he took was initially recognised but the accreditation was revoked a year later in 2020.

“It was only during my last semester that I found out the university failed to get accreditation. They told me that I can finish the course, but without accreditation.

“The university management told me to get another certificate but they do not know what programme we should take.”

He said the university attracts hundreds of foreign students every year, who later find out that some of their courses are not recognised.

Without accreditation, their degrees are not recognised locally or internationally.

“This means our tuition fees and time spent studying, from three to five years, have all been wasted,” he added.

He said foreign students were also facing problems extending their visas after the accreditations were revoked.

“We are not sure if we can come back, due to Covid restrictions. We do not know if the university will be able to give us accredited certificates for our courses,” he added.

A local student, Muhammad Ameer Fakhri registered to study computer science at the same university but was told to change his course to mobile computing.

“They told me it would provide better job prospects. I changed my course upon their advice, only to learn that the course was not accredited,” he said.

“All the students kept pushing for the accreditation but failed. They told us not to worry. But they kept giving us false hope,” he added.

Former deputy education minister Teo Nie Ching said generally MQA would refuse or revoke accreditation of a course if it is not run according to the syllabus or if the academic staff are not qualified.

She asked the university to take corrective action and improve its standards.

“The ministry of higher education can instruct the affected students to take another course or to study at a different institution. The cost must be borne by the university and not the affected students,” she said during the press conference.

At the moment, she said, the certificates given by the university are worth nothing. “The students may not even get a job,” she added.

Lawyer Syahredzan Johan said the students are hoping for a resolution and could take a class action suit if the matter is left unresolved.

“Some 800 international students are affected and they may take a class action suit.

“More students may come forward to address the issue too,” he said during the press conference.

Touch n Go, GrabPay or Boost? I haven't claim the RM50 yet. Appreciate any inputs that could help.

From what I can see, the freebies given by the big three are:

Boost: #KasiTambah - bernilai lebih daripada RM130 (betulkah?)

Basically my sim card just suddenly not detected by my phone an hour ago, already check slot SIM 1 and 2. Both cannot detect this Maxis card.
Replace is easy, but the problem is I am the sub line under my father, and he is outstation and won't be back so soon. Luckily got XOX backup SIM to tahan a few more days.

So, is this SIM card rescueable? If not, then GG.

BNM cuts OPR by 25bps to record low of 1.75%

KUALA LUMPUR (July 7): Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) cut its overnight policy rate (OPR) by 25 basis points (bps) today to a record low of 1.75%, saying that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the global economy is severe and that Malaysia’s economic activity contracted sharply in the second quarter of the year due to measures introduced to contain the pandemic.

In a statement today, the central bank said Malaysia’s inflationary pressures are expected to be muted in 2020.

"The impact of Covid-19 on the global economy is severe. Global economic conditions remain weak with global growth projected to be negative for the year. For Malaysia, economic activity contracted sharply in the second quarter of the year, due to measures introduced to contain the pandemic globally and domestically.

"Following the gradual and progressive re-opening of the economy since early May, economic activities have begun to recover from the trough in the second quarter. The fiscal stimulus packages, alongside monetary and financial measures, will continue to underpin the improving economic outlook.

"The projected improvement in the domestic economy is expected to be further supported by a gradual recovery in global growth conditions. The pace and strength of the recovery, however, remain subject to downside risks emanating from both domestic and external factors. These include the prospect of further outbreaks of the pandemic leading to re-impositions of containment measures, more persistent weakness in labour market conditions, and a weaker-than-expected recovery in global growth,” it said.

BNM said Malaysia's average headline inflation is likely to be negative this year, primarily reflecting substantially lower global crude oil prices.

The central bank said the risks of a broad-based and persistent decline in prices are assessed to be limited as economic activity resumes and demand conditions improve. Nevertheless, the outlook remains significantly affected by global oil and commodity prices and underlying inflation is expected to be subdued and within expectations, according to BNM.

"The reduction in the OPR provides additional policy stimulus to accelerate the pace of economic recovery. The MPC (Monetary Policy Committee) will continue to assess evolving conditions and their implications on the overall outlook for inflation and domestic growth.

"The bank (BNM) will continue to utilise its policy levers as appropriate to create enabling conditions for a sustainable economic recovery," BNM said.
