Spectre patch for older Intel CPU issues

Recently I think Windows 10 had some sort of patch for my PC , currently running at version 1803. I believe it patched up the Spectre vulnerability issue. However, there are numerous issues after that. Very likely because my PC is quite old already. Massive performance hit.

Let me give you some example:

1. Large file transfer, say 50GB single file from another PC from the same network , lets say a NAS to my main PC will make the whole system laggy and not responsive. Yes , even in Safe Mode with networking. I reinstalled my Intel I-218V LAN adaptor , not helping neither. I increase the interrupt moderation rate on the LAN adaptor, not helpful.

2. I'm running on Unifi ISP with 500mbps DL and 100mbps UL. When I run speedtest.net with latest 64bit Chrome browser with adblock plus + Tampermonkey anti adblocker add-in, my system will become unresponsive and lag. Getting only like 460Mbps DL and surprisingly still getting 100+mbps UL . I went to Safe Mode, I did the same test , at last getting 500mbps DL 100mbps UL.

There is a common symptom when I did both test . In task manager, 1 of the CPU Core Utilization goes up to 100% , that is where the computer becomes unresponsive.

What I did after that, disable HTTP scanning protocol on my anti virus ( I'm running on the latest ESET NOD32 AV), turn off windows defender firewall . Not much better still.

Next thing I did, I disabled my Spectre vulnerability patch and reboot my machine. Walla , all my unresponsive issues gone altogether and even browsing internet is more responsive than before. Redo speedtest.net, i'm getting reduced latency and better DL and UL speed.

My current rig spec:

Win 10 version 1803

Core i5 4690k running at 4.5ghz core , 4.3ghz uncore

16GB DDR 3 2400Mhz on dual channel

256GB Samsung PM961 NVME SSD ( an enterprise variant of the Samsung 960 Evo)

My NAS (home build):

Win 2008 R2

Core 2 Quad 9650 running 3.6Ghz

8GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM

4TB of HDD storage ( 1TB X 4 running on RAID 0)

Both of them on gigabit network. Router TP-Link Archer C9 .

Hi all, I just wanted to share with you guys 1 newspaper report about 1 whole family who died because of 1 faulty PSU. It caught fire and 4 members of a family died .
So guys, please don't cheap out on your PSU when buying your rig. This is true especially for miners . Always buy reputable from reputable brand and model and read their reviews before buying. I damn kesian that family.

I would like to propose to the admins make it compulsory for Garage Sales sellers to put their prices. It is in accordance to Malaysian Law . Read here.

Those that put " Please offer me " , " Offer me tq" should be warned and thread deleted immediately.

Those prices which can nego, then put "can nego" . At least put a price. No price if people offer low, then accuse "low baller" .

You want to sell something, obviously you need to put a price tag.

Unless you want to auction something , then put [ WTAuction] , but at least put a minimum offer price.

Difference of Pasta from different brands

Now Tesco has offer for San Remo Pasta. 2 packs for RM 8 .

Those are made in Italy.

I want to ask, does anyone notice any difference in taste between the higher priced and lower priced ones ( those made in Turkey and middle east) ???I'm comparing with non-organic ones. I'm quite curious about this. Italy ones are priced above RM4 per 500gram. Middle east made ones are +- RM3 for the same amount. Kimball brand ones are cheating. 400gram only. So I boycott them.

To myself, I don't feel anything different. Perhaps my cooking skill needs significant improvement to bring out the difference I guess. Anyone has a different opinion ?

Alright, I currently switch to using ABNXCESS ISP and after they flashed my firmware for my modem, ping to google.com and other websites, the DNS responded in IPv6, the only webpage I cannot go in is LYN. If direct ip address ipv4 then can go in. If I disabled IPv6 in my network adaptor, then can go in lyn already.

So comes to my question ?

Need help on video playback HU

I just bought a Pioneer Avh-x4650dvd HU.

I have problems to playback music videos downloaded from youtube.
At first I thought I found a solution which is to convert using DivX Converter with provided settings.
The HU can playback video after conversion but the video quality is no better than VCD .. Very pixelated.

Then I try to search for other video converters, I found Any Video Converter. However, I cannot get the settings right and I keep getting " Unplayable File" on my HU...

I have spent many hours figuring this thing out and it is so frustrating...

Anyone can share your settings ???

FYI, AVH-X8450 settings cannot be used on X4650 due to different resolution support. I found out that X5650BT should be sharing the same resolution as mine...

A few things need take note.

1. This is a professional Quadro card and use Quadro drivers therefore IT IS NOT MEANT TO PLAY GAMES (although it can do light gaming like SFIV at full HD maxed out everything). It is meant for engineering software that needs viewport performance like Maya and Catia
2. Low ballers i do not entertain...
3. Do not complain about the temperature of this Quadro card as it uses a single slot reference cooler. Therefore idling also is already 45C at least in air-con room. I tested this card out via MSI Kombuster and i got 82C at max .

Rev drops during heavy traffic jam

Hi guys,

I have some issue here with my car.During heavy traffic jam, low throttle and brake, the engine rev suddenly will drop till 500rpm or lower like dat making the car vibrate if i brake long, i'm damm scared the car will stall thus i will throttle abit to prevent tht. No, not abt lousy clutching technique coz my car is 4AT torque converter. However even when the car is vibrating, I'll put to N the rev still wont go up unless i press throttle. When in front car distance got more already, i tried press more on the throttle and the throttle respond is slower than usual. It happens to me twice already during heavy traffic jam. After the car go around 2.5k+ rpm and start brake again, the problem will disappear. I've no problems starting the car anytime and the car is still has alot of power and acceleration . I've tested the battery terminal and during engine working and aircon on, the voltmeter shows 14v which i think is normal as the alternator is working. I dunno is it the fuel pump prob as the car din experience any jerk at all even during hard acceleration. THanks for help anyways.

Hi guys, just now's tv news mentioned that RON 97 petrol price will be raised 20 cents starting from 1st September and RON 95 fuel will be out at RM1.75.

Any impact to our car performance for using RON 95 fuel?

abt 2 weeks ago, there was a power blackout suddenly when i was doing IBT test (100 rounds), CPU was loaded at 100%. after tht incident, whenever i shut down my pc,it will power off as usual(till no light and fan stop spinning ). BUT after 2-3 seconds, it will power on by itself.

wat i did was:
0. boot from another harddisk(win XP) and shut down to test. Same problem. (so not windows problem)
1. go to bios, disable all those wake on LAN and checked those power management things. Still not working.
2. unplug and replug all those power cables. Still not working.

wat i do now is, after pc completely shut down, i off the switch behind my PSU before it powers on by itself again.

From u guys experience, wat will be the culprit of this as i myself cant identify.

Car jerking when acceleration pedal let go totally

i'm driving a honda city type Z '01 (non vtec version) auto trans. whenever i hit 120km/h on highways, i'll let go the accelerator completely to slow down(coz i takut kena saman). when this happens, the car jerks, and the rpm fluctuates at + or - 200-300 like dat. i told my mechanic abt this, he told me this is normal as the auto transmission will try to do engine braking. i'm not convinced abt that. so wanna ask u guys opinion.
