To all smart accountants in this forum, I would like to ask a few technical questions related to deferred taxation in accordance with IAS 12 – Income Taxes.

My questions are the followings:

1) Why did the Company present ‘offsetting’ sum of RM 4,459,164 in a negative and positive manner? (see red arrow);

2) Why not net off the total deferred tax assets of the Group amounted to RM 5,051,205 and the total deferred tax liabilities amounted to RM 10,892,089 directly? and;

3) How to calculate the offsetting sum of RM 4,459,164?

I had experience in calculating of each item in the tax reconciliation and deferred tax movements for SMEs. However, I have no idea about this “offsetting” sum and the Standard never mentioned offsetting in such a manner. I really appreciate to those who can help me to understand it or at least provide me some hints. Thank you.

Mule account holders will face harsher punishments

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — The government today tabled amendments to the Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code that provides harsher punishments for anyone who allows someone else to use their bank accounts for illegal purposes, such as for scams.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said told the Dewan Rakyat that the Bill will be debated this Parliament session.

Currently, Section 424 of the Penal Code provides a maximum five sentence of five years, a fine, or with both, for those convicted of dishonestly or fraudulently assisting in the release of any demand or claim.

But if the amendment passes Parliament, the new punishments will see the jail term double to a maximum of 10 years, and a fine up to RM150,000, or both for anyone found guilty of allowing their bank accounts to be used for scams or other illegal purposes.
The proposed changes to the law targets four offences:

Section 424A (owning or controlling someone else’s bank account or payment instrument)
Section 424B (Giving someone else control of your bank account or payment instrument)
Section 424C(1) (Unlawful transactions using own account)
Section 424C(2) (Unlawful transactions using someone else’s account).
Punishment for account mules under the proposed amendments is Section 424B would see them punished with a fine between RM10,000 and RM100,000, or jailed between one and seven years, or both.

As for scammers, the amendments are to these provisions:

424A (Fine between RM5,000 and RM50,000, or jail between six months and five years, or both)
424C(1) (Fine between RM10,000 and RM100,000, or jail between three and 10 years)
424C(2) (Fine between RM10,000 and RM150,000, or jail between three and 10 years).

Dude, you shouldn't hate rubber tapping. Rubber is a commodity traded in the New York Mercantile Exchange just like other commodities such as Palm oil, tin, soy, coco, and gold. These are valuable natural resources despite their volatility in global prices. I want you to see this as a BIG business.

Do you know who is Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng? This man started out as a factory manager in a palm oil plantation, he later seize the opportunity by owning his own Palm oil plantation land, produce and export it to western countries and take home US dollar (tax free). He is now one of the top ten richest man in Malaysia.

Just continue your studies and at the same time learn the ropes of agricultural farming or fish farming. Then export most of your agricultural produce overseas. And, maybe one day you will become your own boss and have your own Public Listed Co. and you know what? Those first class degree holders will come and beg for jobs from you.
