External GPU Supported?

Okay, I promise this is the last question.

My friend got a Zephyrus-M and I'm just too excited playing with it

Now, it comes with GTX1070 and it has Thunderbolt port. So if we get an external GPU enclosure like the XG2, can we run it on 1080Ti? And will it be worth it over the GTX1070?

GSync via Thunderbolt works?

Hey guys, I just got my hands on the Zephyrus-M

But it's not mine though

I asked my friend to get it and he says he wants to upgrade the RAM. How much would you recommend? It already has 16GB though, to me I find it enough~

Guys, no one did any comparison between the Zephyrus and Zephyrus-M ah? I mean, I think the M should have an easy win there, but then why the price difference is so massive? Must be something in the non-M right?

Have you seen the ROG HERO 2 that was launched during Comuptex 2018? Don't you think that it looks a lot like the Zephyrus-M now?

I've been eyeing on the Zephyrus-M for a while now and have been comparing it against the MSI GS65 largely.

The 144Hz refresh rate definitely do justice to it! I've used my friend's ROG Swift before and the experience is remarkable especially with GSYNC in place.

The 3ms response time is more than what I need and the 72% NTSC is nice to have since I'm a casual gamer and not a designer. lol.

What I don't understand is, what is IPS-Level panel? Is it not IPS? Is it "close to IPS"? Is it considered TN Panel but has IPS characteristics?

Been reading about it but it's not making any sense. Someone can enlighten me?

ASUS Zephyrus M seems powerful

Ever since I saw the Zephyrus at ROG Masters last year, I have been deeply in love with it!

The price point didn't make any sense back then. RM16K was downright ridiculous to spend on the machine.

But then ASUS came with the Zephyrs-M and I think I'm much deeper in love now!

For starters, the Coffee Lake CPU is a win. Okay, ASUS did update the Zephyrus with that too.

What is even better though, is the real GTX1070 unlike the Max-Q in the Zephyrus! YUMMY!

ASUS also improved the hinge opening saying it opens wider now. But I'm not sure if that's good or bad coz the Zephyrus hinge did look flimsy back then.

But what's even more exciting is the PRICE!

RM9,299 for the 1070 variant and RM7,999 for the 1060 variant! WOW!

What has ASUS been smoking lately? I want some of that good stuff too!

I'm seriously considering purchasing the Zephyrus-M now. The price and specs are totally worth it.

Only one thing remains - real world battery test!

ASUS ROG STRIX Coffee Lake Update

So ASUS just announced the Coffee Lake updates to their ROG STRIX line-up. But there seems to be a caveat here.

For the SCAR series, only the GL703 is getting the update. The GL503 SCAR is not getting the update, but rather the GL503 HERO will be getting it instead.

I probably would think the HERO got the update due to it selling more than the SCAR series (I assume based on price?) so it deserves the update.

But why update the GL703 for the SCAR series instead of the GL503 SCAR instead?

Good thing, the HERO also finally gets a 1050Ti instead of the 1050 (it's about time).

But I was hoping ASUS to put in a little significant update in aesthetics instead of just the specs refresh.

The Coffee Lake-H is expected to arrive in the Q2 2018, which starts in 2 days' time. Ampere is expected to appear this 12th April. Anyone holding out on their latest laptop purchase until they hit the market? Sure would love a 6-core ZenBook Pro!

Laptops like the ROG GL503 SCAR Edition come with powerful 12V fans. Usually faster fans involve better airflow, but with more airflow also means more dust gets sucked into the intakes... How often do you think service should be done to maintain optimal performance of the fans?

How hard is it to implement Thunderbolt 3?

It has come to my attention that even when same designs are involved, the ROG GL503VS has Thunderbolt 3, while the slightly lower end ROG GL503VM doesn't. The chipset and CPU are the same, so it shouldn't be a hardware limitation. However they decided to add it to one model and not the other. I know Intel isn't charging any royalty, so why wouldn't ASUS implement it on the lower end model?

Low profile mechanical keyboard in laptops

Shouldn't we be seeing more gaming laptops packing the new Cherry Low Profile MX switches? I am sure desktop replacement models like the ROG G703 Chimera can fit them in, as we have seen beasts from Acer and MSI pack the taller standard Cherry MX switches anyway. If you want to do a desktop replacement, do it right, aye?

Practicality of a gaming dock with GPU

I guess we have all seen the ROG GX700 and GX800, where both laptops had huge watercooling docks. Do you think it would be a great idea to expand on the idea, somewhat like the Surface Book 2, but instead of a single GPU, have a second GPU waiting in the dock to amp up the GPU performance?

Here's another update, ASUS GL503V-DGZ366T (HERO EDITION) is now priced even better!

RM4,999.00 (used to be RM5,199.00). That's another RM200 reduced.

This one would be much power efficient compared to the SCAR edition considering it's running a GTX1050. I think a 256GB NVMe would have been better though.

Guess what guys, I just noticed ASUS silently reduced their prices!

THe GL503V-MED311T (SCAR EDITION) is now at RM7,299 (used to be RM7,599).

Not bad for an i7 with GTX1060, 256GB NVme and 120Hz FHD! That's a sweet spot for a gaming laptop I think.
