Converting Windows to Linux/Open Source OS

Hi ALL,

I've an Old but Hardly used ThinkPad SL500 (from 2009), that came installed with the very Horrible Vista. I have hardly touched it, cos it's slow, with all sorts of Pop-Up warnings all the time, Hangs and just isn't useful at all. I've Down Graded it to XP (with a disc that came with the Laptop), BUT unlike the old reliable XP, this downgraded XP from Vista, was just as horrible as Vista. Hence, i hardly touched it.

It came with a respectable Processor (i3 I think) and 4 GB RAM, with 500 HDD. I hope not to waste it.

Question:
1) Can it be converted to a ubuntu/linux/open source FREE OS?
2) Can it be converted into an Android base OS and used like an Android PC?
3) Who provides this service (cos I'm no IT specialist)? (cos' I'd pay)

Please help and advice.
