ICU at 80% capacity nationwide - no more 90%

NOTE: Edited out the excessive dramatic portions.

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...ys-noor-hisham/

ICU at 80% capacity nationwide says Noor Hisham

PETALING JAYA: The situation at intensive care units (ICU) in government hospitals utilisation rate at 80% nationwide, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

“[T]he number of ICU beds being constantly increased to meet the demand,” he said in a Facebook post last night.

According to Noor Hisham, there are 1,388 ICU beds in total in 78 hospitals and teaching hospitals.

“This is the total available for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 cases. From this number, we have allocated 850 ICU beds for Covid-19 patients.

“However, the total number of ICU beds for Covid-19 patients is increased from time to time when there is a need,” he said.

As of yesterday, the health ministry reported 42,135 active cases with 482 patients being treated in ICUs and 250 requiring respiratory assistance.

Noor Hisham said that in the event that the number of critical Covid-19 patients was reduced at a hospital, the ICU beds allocated for Covid-19 cases might also be reduced by the state health department so that more non-COVID-19 patients could be admitted to the ICU.

“To increase preparedness, hospitals have also been told to repurpose other areas in the hospital, such as regular wards, to be used as temporary ICUs by upgrading the wards with the relevant medical equipment.”

Too many chiefs will spoil the SOPs

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...usiness-groups/

PETALING JAYA: Business groups have voiced their opposition to having each ministry draw up its own SOPs, saying it will cause confusion and hurt traders even if economic sectors are allowed to operate.

Reacting to senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s announcement on the matter, they say the lack of clarity is a running theme, and last-minute changes and SOPs announced without warning in the past have already taken their toll.

Ismail said at a press conference yesterday that each ministry would be responsible for setting SOPs for sectors under its purview for the nationwide movement control order (MCO) set to begin today.

He said a standard set would also be available for the whole country.

Speaking to FMT, Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce executive director Shaun Cheah said it looked like restrictions were being made up on the fly and without any communication between ministries.

“Confusion means the enforcement agencies will have a field day, too. They will be just as confused as the businesses.

“The ministries should be talking to each other to align their policies, and we don’t believe industries are being consulted when they are being developed,” he said.

Cheah said the introduction of HIDE was a prime example of this lack of industry consultation. Instead of encouraging SOP compliance, he said, it had driven customers away from predicted hotspots.

“HIDE predicts that these will be hotspots, but now it will turn them into ghost towns.”

Michael Kang, president of the SME Association of Malaysia, agreed that a lack of ministry coordination would cause businesses the same problems that past uncertainties had and would affect traders adversely.

“It’s as if the SOPs change by the hour. Until now, nobody knows which SOPs to follow. Small traders and micro businesses will suffer huge losses as a result,” he said.

Kang said it seemed as though the National Security Council (MKN) was out of touch with the real challenges facing SMEs on the ground.

“I would tell the prime minister to totally restructure MKN to include more private sector expertise,” he said.

“Then, there needs to be a single, standardised set of SOPs that everyone can understand and follow rather than every ministry having its own.”

He also said that without adequate notice of the MCO, SMEs had been left flat-footed and without enough time to properly prepare for the new restrictions.

It fixed April 8 for next case management.

The woman, born in 1980, said her father converted her when she was 10 years old. At that time, her parents were in the midst of a divorce.

She said her mother had never embraced Islam and never consented to her father converting her.

“Since I reached the age of maturity until today, I have been practising Buddhism and living with my mother.

“I had affirmed a statutory declaration stating my intention to reject the use of my Muslim name and that I wanted to use my Chinese birth name again,” she said.

She said that in August last year, she went to JPN in Ipoh to change her MyKad but the officer in charge refused to remove the word “Islam” from it.

“The officer told me to provide a shariah court order to support my application,” she said.

The woman said her lawyers issued a letter of demand to the department in October 2020 to issue a new MyKad but there was no response.

Subsequently, she filed for a judicial review, seeking an order against the Selangor muallaf registrar to cancel the conversion certificate.

The woman also wants JPN to issue her a new MyKad without the word “Islam” appearing on it.

The AGC had previously objected to the woman’s bid to obtain leave for a judicial review from the court, citing that civil courts have no jurisdiction to hear matters of the shariah courts.

The line eventually shortened at around 9.15am.

On March 19, immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud said system disruptions and a sharp rise in applications had led to the congestion at the JIM office in Singapore.

He said the congestion was also due to walk-in applicants who did not make appointments through the Online Appointment System (STO) as well as the Covid-19-induced border closure, which made it difficult for Malaysians to renew their passports in Johor Bahru or at other branches of the department.

Khairul said JIM was also waiting for approval from the Singapore foreign ministry to allow staff of Datasonic Bhd to enter the country to carry out repair work.

He advised Malaysians in Singapore to renew their passports online and that their applications will be processed and printed within four to five weeks.

Priority in renewing passports was given to Malaysians who needed to extend their work permits in the near future, he said.

According to Khairul, normally, the JIM office in Singapore was able to process 100 passport renewal applications a day but during the Covid-19 pandemic, the applications had increased to 350 a day.

Last week, online renewal applications increased from 200 to 450 per day, with most of the applicants turning up without making an appointment through the STO.

MySejahtera compulsory, cannot use logbook

https://www.techarp.com/software/mysejahtera-fine-rm10k/

MySejahtera : Fine Now RM10K, Can Be Appealed!
Posted by Dr. Adrian Wong

Please note that MySejahtera logging is MANDATORY, and the non-compliance fine was recently increased to RM 10,000!

We must remind everyone that MySejahtera logging has been mandatory since 10 February 2021, because the non-compliance fine increased to RM10,000 starting 11 March 2021!

The Malaysia Ministry of Health and the Prime Minister’s Department earlier announced on 3 March 2021 that the fine for COVID-19 measures would be increased to RM10,000 ~ RM100,000.

Individuals who were caught not complying with COVID-19 measures, including not logging their movements using MySejahtera, would receive a fine of RM10,000.

The massively increased fine of RM 10,000 will definitely be a problem for many people who don’t even earn that much in 4 months!

Look at this picture of a compound that a netizen received on the very first day the fine was increased!

Malaysia Senior Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob stated that the maximum fine of RM10,000 is only for “repeat and serious offenders”.

According to the Inspector General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador, the police officers do not have the power to reduce the fine. It is merely their duty to issue the compound.

However, those who receive the compound can appeal for a reduction in the fine at the nearest District Health Office.

So if you are caught not scanning the QR code using your MySejahtera app :

DO NOT ARGUE with the police officer.
Accept the compound from the police officer.
Head to the nearest District Health Office to appeal the fine.

Potential mitigating factors could include your economic status, a first-time offence, not owning a smartphone, poor or no Internet connectivity in that area.

COVID-19 contact tracing requires timely and accurate logging of everyone’s movements, which has been accomplished by many apps and manual logbooks in Malaysia.

However, to streamline and speed up the contact tracing process, the Malaysia National Security Council (MKN) announced on 9 February 2021 that MySejahtera logging is now mandatory.

From Wednesday, 10 February 2021 onwards, everyone in Malaysia must log their movements in public areas using the MySejahtera app.

You can use other contact tracing apps as well, but only in addition to MySejahtera, which again is MANDATORY.

The use of manual logbooks is no longer allowed, except in rural areas where Internet connectivity is poor or not available.

If you are fail to log your movements using MySejahtera at that time, the fine was set at RM 1,000 per person, per offence!

However, the government did not detail how people who do not own a smartphone are supposed to log their visits.

The original RM 1,000 fine for not logging your movement in public places is not new. Malaysian netizens have shared videos and photos of enforcement checks for months now.

MySejahtera is a mobile app developed by the Malaysian government. It serves as a contact tracing tool, as well as a way to disseminate verified information on COVID-19 in Malaysia.

Its users can log their movements by quickly and simply scanning a QR code at public places. This is a safer option to signing a logbook, because you won’t need to touch the logbook or use a shared pen.

Using MySejahtera also allows the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) to easier and faster conduct contact tracing.

Please note that EVERY PERSON – including children and domestic helpers – must be registered.

Unfortunately, the government has not stated what people should do, if they do not have a smartphone.

Singaporean to stab Jews after prayers

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...-after-prayers/

SINGAPORE: A radicalised Singaporean Muslim has been arrested under tough laws that allow detention without trial for planning a deadly stabbing spree against Jews, officials said Wednesday.

Such cases are rare in multi-ethnic Singapore, where different religious and ethnic groups generally live peacefully side by side, but they do occur occasionally.

In the latest case, 20-year-old Amirull Ali planned to ambush and kill at least three Jewish men as they left a synagogue after prayers, security officials said.

He became radicalised after researching the Israeli-Palestinian conflict online and planned to travel to Gaza in the Palestinian territories to join Islamic group Hamas’ military wing, they said.

“Amirull was very serious, he had made detailed preparations, he had a knife prepared for his attack,” Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam told local media.

“He decided to target the abdomen area because that’s where the heavy bleeding will cause a quick death.”

But Amirull — who had been doing compulsory national service as an administrative support assistant — shelved his plans as he was uncertain whether he would attain martyrdom.

Nevertheless, the defence ministry became suspicious and raised the alarm, leading to his arrest this month.

Amirull was detained under the Internal Security Act, which allows for detention without trial for up to two years.

In December, authorities detained a 16-year-old who planned to attack two mosques in Singapore after being influenced by a massacre of Muslim worshippers in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The city-state of 5.7 million is mostly ethnic Chinese but is also home to a sizeable ethnic-Malay Muslim minority.

Its Jewish population is tiny, numbering only around 2,500, according to local media.
