KUCHING (July 13): The Batang Lupar Bridge project was “cancelled” by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government due to the unreasonably high price of RM1 billion announced in 2016, said Chong Chieng Jen.

The Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman said after PH entered Putrajaya in 2018, the federal Cabinet led by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad decided all mega projects at less than 10 per cent progress were to be put on hold, pending re-negotiation on prices.

“This was due to the rampant practice of the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government for awarding mega projects at unreasonably high prices.

“(Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri) Abang Johari (Tun Openg) should know better why the Batang Lupar Bridge project was put on hold in 2018. It was exactly the same reason why the LRT 3 (Shah Alam line) project was recently alleged to have been ‘cancelled’ by (former federal finance minister) Lim Guan Eng,” he said in a statement on Monday.

The land for the station was first earmarked in 2016 to be constructed as a KTM station alongside the development of UOA Development Berhad's United Point Residence.

In August 2023, the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) and IDP Industrial Development Sdn Bhd signed an agreement with UOA Development Berhad to develop the new railway station along the KTM line, with UOA undertaking the construction to further integrate it with its existing development.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.[6][7]

Construction of the station was initially expected to be completed by November 2025.

The station connects directly to United Point via an overhead bridge and serves the surrounding neighborhoods of Taman Cuepacs, Taman Sri Segambut, Taman Segambut Aman, and Taman Sri Sinar.

On May 9, 2026, KTMB announced that the Segambut Utara KTM Station would officially begin operations on May 11, 2026.

As part of the Tanjung Malim–Pelabuhan Klang route, the station links passengers to major destinations and rail integration hubs, including

Sungai Buloh, Kepong Sentral, Abdullah Hukum, and Subang Jaya,

facilitating seamless connections to the MRT and LRT networks

Passengers are also able to continue journeys to the Batu Caves–Pulau Sebang sector through interchange stations such as Kuala Lumpur and KL Sentral[3].

The station is expected to benefit

more than 250,000 residents in Segambut, Jalan Ipoh, Kepong,

and nearby areas by improving daily mobility in these densely populated neighborhoods.

Furthermore, KTMB emphasized that the station's opening supports efforts to reduce reliance on private vehicles and strengthens sustainable urban mobility throughout the Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today rejected accusations that he had failed to keep his pledge to lower petrol prices, saying Malaysia’s RON95 price remains cheaper than in oil-rich Saudi Arabia.

Anwar was responding during Prime Minister’s Question Time to Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid of Perikatan Nasional, who argued that Malaysia should not compare its petrol prices with those of non-oil-producing countries.

Rosol had sought to make the point that petrol prices should be lower in Malaysia because the country produces oil.

“Firstly, you asked why then (as opposition) we asked for petrol to be reduced (RM1.50); and why compare to non-oil producing countries and compare to Sauid and Qatar. Hulu Terengganu I am telling you now the price of petrol in Malaysia is actually cheaper than in Saudi Arabia or even Qatar,” Anwar said.

“This is a fact. You can spin it how you want but the fact remains that our petrol price is cheaper. Yes we asked for petrol price to be reduced then but at the time the price in Saudi was 50 sen (per litre). Now our price is RM1.99 per litre while it’s over RM2.40 in Saudi Arabia,” Anwar added.

As per the latest reports from Yonhap News and The Guru, the AI5 chip will largely be built on Samsung's 2nm process technology at its Taylor Fab in Texas, US. It is yet to be confirmed what process technology the chip will use at TSMC fabs, but the leveraging of Samsung's 2nm node gives the Korean semiconductor giant a big boost to its chipmaking endeavors, and brings a lot of confidence in the highly debated status of its 2nm manufacturing capabilities.

According to industry sources on the 13th, Kim Jeong-gon, a senior engineer at Samsung Foundry, posted on his LinkedIn on the 11th (local time) that "the Tesla-Samsung AI5 chip has entered the tape-out stage (the stage where the design is completed and the blueprints are handed over to the foundry plant)." He added, "This chip is scheduled to be produced at the Taylor plant using a 2nm process and will soon be installed in Tesla's latest products."

AI5 is the follow-up to HW4 and will arrive as a next-gen FSD solution for Tesla. In a previous talk, Elon Musk stated that AI5 will offer a monumental 40x improvement over the HW4 chip, with 8x raw compute capabilities, 9x memory, and will deliver brand-new features. The chip itself is expected to offer close to 2500 TOPS of AI compute, 144 GB of memory per chip, and is designed with the latest transformer engine in mind.

But there's more, Elon Musk has also stated previously that solving AI5 was an existential task for Tesla & it will be a very capable AI chip and AI platform. AI5 will be offered in multiple configurations, one being a single-SOC that rivals NVIDIA's Hopper, and then a dual-SOC design that rivals Blackwell while costing much less to produce and using way less power. So we can expect some competitive Perf/$ & Perf/W versus NVIDIA's latest AI offerings.

The chip is expected to be manufactured at TSMC and Samsung, with high-volume production slated for late 2026 or early 2027. Elon has shared plans to move next-gen chip production to the upcoming TeraFab, but its announcement is still pending.

Meanwhile, Elon also confirms that work is already underway on the next-generation Tesla AI6 chip and Dojo3. Since Tesla announced a return to form in the chipmaking business, the plans for Dojo3 are back on track. Tesla resumed the plans for the Supercomputer project back in January 2026, and with Terafab operational and developing DRAM, Packaging, and Chips, all under one roof, this goal should not be far away now.

Gokart horror: 21-year-old scalped after freak accident in Puchong track.

KUALA LUMPUR — A 21-year-old man suffered severe head injuries after a freak gokart accident at a popular circuit in Puchong in the early hours of July 11.

The victim, who was taking part in a recreational gokart session with a group of 13 youths, was involved in the freak accident at about 2.37am while on the circuit.

Witnesses say his long hair was not secured and got caught in one of the wheels.

A family member said the crash left the victim with serious head trauma. Witnesses claimed his helmet was torn off during the impact and was seen rolling across the track.

As a result of the crash the victim’s scalp was torn from his head during impact, a severe injury which required emergency surgery.

Two witnesses who were watching from the spectator area said they saw the victim standing after the crash, but with his head covered in blood.

They alleged that despite the severity of the incident, the race continued and was not immediately stopped with a red flag, leaving the injured rider exposed on the track while other gokarts remained in motion.

The witnesses also claimed that the marshal assigned to the corner where the crash occurred was not stationed at the post at the time of the accident.

Based on police reports filed by the injured man’s father and another witness, in the 2.40am incident, the victim was instructed to walk on his own to an open garage area and was seated on a chair despite suffering heavy bleeding from his head.

“Although several staff members were reportedly nearby, no immediate professional medical assistance was provided,” said a witness.

The witnesses claimed staff only placed a thin blue cloth over the victim’s head before later providing a first aid kit.

The emergency treatment was allegedly carried out by the victim’s friends, a medical student, with one of them using bandages from the first aid kit to stop the bleeding

Concerns were also raised over the ambulance response. The chronology stated that almost 20 minutes passed after the crash without an ambulance arriving, despite claims that emergency services had been contacted.

One of the witnesses eventually called the emergency hotline 999 herself, with the call connected to Hospital Serdang, which informed them that an ambulance was on the way.

Following urgent appeals from the victim’s friends, he was eventually taken to Hospital Serdang at about 3am in a vehicle belonging to the circuit management.

However, the family member alleged that the driver or representative from the management dropped the victim at the hospital’s emergency department and left without completing the registration process.

The victim’s friends then assisted in bringing him to the registration counter, after which he was admitted to the Red Zone for critical treatment.

A parent of one of the victim’s friends, later arrived at the hospital and helped complete the registration process.

The victim was placed under specialist supervision due to severe head trauma before being transferred from Hospital Serdang to Hospital Putrajaya at about 11am where he underwent emergency surgery.

The incident has sparked questions over safety procedures and emergency preparedness at motorsport facilities, including whether appropriate medical response measures were in place during the crash.

Also that the circuit operated beyond its 2am closing time raises questions.

When contacted the victim’s father said the family is too distraught by the whole incident.

“We wish to focus on the recovery of our son, at this moment,” he told Scoop.

Scoop is withholding the identities of the victim and his family at this time.

Rosmah sues Harith Iskander over stand-up routine, seeks damages

KUALA LUMPUR (July 14): Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has sued comedian Harith Iskander over a stand-up comedy performance in which she claims he likened her to “Toyol, Pontianak and Pocong”, allegedly subjecting her to body shaming, public ridicule and serious damage to her reputation.

In her statement of claim sighted by The Edge, filed on June 9, Rosmah alleged that during Harith’s “Harith Iskander: The Outspoken Comedy Tour” at the Swiss-Garden Hotel in Melaka on Jan 17, 2026, he displayed images of the mythical creatures before showing her photograph as part of the performance.

The suit alleges that Harith told the audience that a person looking into a rear-view mirror while driving on a dark road would “see something frightening”, before displaying Rosmah’s image, “thereby clearly portraying the plaintiff as that frightening thing and associating the plaintiff with those frightening mythical creatures”.

Rosmah contended that the statements were made “with malicious intent to degrade and damage the plaintiff’s good name” and to humiliate her through “body shaming”.

Rosmah claims the statements made about her conveyed that she “has facial features associated with frightening mythical creatures in Malaysian mythology”, “has facial features more frightening than creatures such as Toyol, Pontianak and Pocong”, “is an individual capable of causing fear, shock and anxiety to the public”, “is fit to be made the subject of ridicule, humiliation and mockery”, “is unworthy of respect”, and “has such a poor reputation that she can be equated with something evil, frightening or inhuman”.

Rosmah said the remarks bore an innuendo that she “is an individual with evil, cruel and/or immoral characteristics”, “is feared, hated and looked down upon by society”, “can be equated with entities associated with evil, wickedness and/or supernatural elements”, and “is unworthy of honour, dignity or appreciation as a member of society”.

She further said that the remarks by the seasoned comedian portrays her as an individual who deserves to be “humiliated, mocked and insulted before the public”, “does not possess credibility, authority and a good reputation in the eyes of society”, and “is someone who ought to be feared, avoided and viewed with suspicion by the public”.

Rosmah further claimed that the comparison was more serious because it was not made “in a neutral context or in the course of an ordinary discussion” but during a comedy show before a live audience “for the purpose of obtaining laughter and entertainment from the public”.

She alleges the remarks seriously affected her “reputation, dignity, good name, social standing and public image”, causing her to receive “criticism, sarcasm, ridicule and insults” after recordings of the performance were republished on social media.

According to the pleading, a TikTok user identified as @mayychan0303 uploaded two clips of the performance. The first allegedly attracted 219,700 views and 3,354 likes, while the second recorded 12,500 views and 145 likes before it was later removed.

She said that Harith knew or ought reasonably to have known that the performance could be recorded, disseminated and republished on social media, but nevertheless made the remarks “recklessly, carelessly and/or with malice”.

The statement of claim says Rosmah, through Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak, issued a letter of demand dated Feb 6, 2026 requiring Harith to cease making further defamatory statements, remove all publications containing the remarks, publish an unconditional apology and retraction, undertake not to repeat the statements, pay RM10 million in damages for the alleged harm to her reputation, and reimburse her legal costs.

Harith says routine must be viewed in full context; cites article 10 of Federal Constitution for freedom of speech

In his statement of defence sighted by The Edge dated July 9, 2026, Harith denied that the remarks or visual displays during the performance were defamatory, malicious or capable of bearing the meanings alleged by Rosmah.

He contended that the statements and visuals “must be read, interpreted and understood in the full context” of the 90-minute live stand-up comedy performance, including “the entire comedy routine, narrative, delivery, tone, timing, audience reactions, audience interaction, disclaimers and house rules” presented before and during the show.

Harith admitted that images of mythical creatures were displayed as part of the comedy narrative but denied they portrayed Rosmah as “a ghostly creature, something frightening, evil, ugly, disgusting, inhuman or carried any defamatory meaning” as alleged in Rosmah’s statement of claim.

The comedian also argued that Rosmah’s claim relied on two edited TikTok videos uploaded by user @mayychan0303 rather than the performance in its entirety.

He denied recording, uploading or publishing the clips, saying he did not know the TikTok account holder, had not authorised, encouraged or consented to the recordings or their dissemination, and had no control over their content or distribution.

According to the defence, the TikTok clips were recorded and uploaded without his knowledge or consent and in breach of his express instructions prohibiting audio or video recordings during the performance.

Harith further claimed that the videos were edited, incomplete and taken out of context, omitting “explanations, instructions, disclaimers and house rules” given before and during the show, including that the performance should be understood as comedy.

The defence statement states that before the show began, audience members were shown house rules and disclaimers stating, among others, “No video or audio recording. Enjoy the moment”, “This is comedy, not a personal attack. It is a public service — with better timing”, and “If you are easily offended, please leave your ego outside.”

Harith also pleaded that Rosmah’s image appeared only briefly for less than five seconds during the approximately 90-minute performance, and was neither the main subject nor recurring focus of the show.

Harith also cited Article 10(1)(a) of the Federal Constitution, arguing that the performance constituted artistic expression protected under the constitutional guarantee of freedom of speech, and that a mature democratic society should allow reasonable space for artistic expression, comedy and satire.

Harith denied acting with malice, saying the performance was presented solely for “entertainment, artistic expression and satire”, and not with the intention of damaging Rosmah’s reputation, dignity or good name.

Harith, through his lawyers Messrs Karpal Singh & Co, asked the High Court to dismiss Rosmah’s suit with costs.
