Endless corporate cycle, Possible layoff??

8 years in finance. My last role — financial reporting and month-end close — got cut when the company restructured after 4 years there. It stung, but I landed on my feet with a new MNC role in Aug 2025.

One year later, that company is restructuring too. Nothing official yet about Finance, but this year my team has been deep in a new system implementation — one that’s set to automate a large chunk of the reporting and close work we currently do.

I’ve seen this movie before. Last time, this exact pattern preceded my role being impacted.

So I’m weighing a few things:
→ Do I start job hunting now, ahead of any actual signal?
→ Is this just where finance/reporting roles are headed — automate or get automated?
→ A few people have suggested building something on the side instead of chasing the next job. Real strategy, or just wishful thinking when things feel uncertain?

Curious how others in finance, GBS, or shared services are navigating this — did automation catch you off guard, or did you see it coming and act early?

so i went prudential to terminate my insurance policy and was shock to find that,
i hv to bring along the trustee & a witness

my questions were:
1) i'm the owner of this policy why would i need other ppl consent to terminate it?
2) when i bought the policy, no permission required frm anyone but why when i terminate, i need trustee & witness??

this is not making sense at all. can someone share some advise/ experience?

Floppy disk, How to dispose/recycle

At the moment got nearly 200 3.5" floppy disk here that I'm thinking to dispose. Already gave around 80 of it to someone already, plenty of those still left.

5.25" disk I got around 100 of it but that prolly will still kept for some time.

Any advise how to properly dispose that or just toss it in the bin? Sohai e-waste company here in Sabah didn't want to take it last time. Any salvage value, does the shutter can be removed and sell for scrap metal/aluminium?

Plan to just degausse and just forget about it. External floppy drive seems not working and there's too many of it to go thru.

Classical music lessons - for your children, are they a debt trap?

I am comtemplating classical guitar or piano lessons for my kids. I have a piano given free and still servicing it, left behind by my mother in law.

But when I asked around, it appears some kids like taking forever to learn from grade 1 to grade 8, macam until 18yo still learning.

I am thinking wah, macam ni, those music schools like yamaha must be making big money, since the commtment is almost every week.

Plus the fact that my kids, don't really like to do repetitive stuff, they more like swimming, maths and sports activities.

I also asked those people who completed grade 8, do they still remember to play the piano. One such friend told me that she completely forgotten because lack of practice.

Aside from the expensive commitment for so many years, how many? I estimate maybe 12-15 years of learning. Damn, it feels like taking a small loan.

I sort of thought wouldn't it be better if I send my kids to learn something more relaxing instead, like electric or acoustic guitar lessons or maybe pick up the drums.

WHat do you think?

WTA any here used to get scam calls and not anymore, if yes did you do anything for them to stop calling?
My strategy was to not answer their call thinking that after some time they would just think the number is dead and stop calling. This is not working instead it is worse now as they are calling 8-9 times a day and this been going on for years already?

Hello, I plan to buy a Shiba Inu in a few months time, anyone have any recommendations of go-to pet shop ? I did hear some stories from my friend that most or at least some pet shops who sell dogs & cats, they don't really take good care of them since birth, instead it's just a money tool for them, and experience pet owners can tell if they are treated well based on their eyes, though I'm not one of them, but I surely wouldn't want to purchase my Shiba from a pet shop / breeder that doesn't take good care of it since birth.

So if anyone got any good recommendations, whether it's self breed or pet shops, please do recommend.

Problem with debt collector, Not ah long

TLDR
- Applied 5G simcard with this ISP(For company use), the ISP account manager use my company email address as the contact person.
- Bill due, debt collector send text and email with threats for lawsuit if i don't pay the bill. The amount is RM49.50 btw.
- Texted the ISP account manager along with screenshot of the text from debt collector, ask them to change the email to account department email since I am not in charge for billing and payments. Even write an email to ISP support email address and the debt collector as well, ISP replied say they will look into this but no reply form debt collector. This was on 3rd of July.
- Then 6th of July received text and email from debt collector again, decided to call them directly this time and reminds them again to contact the account department and even texted them the account department email. Also warn them not to contact me again, this was around 11am on 6th of July.
- Again on 6th of July, around 1pm they send another email now threatening to visit office. Tak reti bahasa ke apa?

ISP stand of Internet Service Provider like TM/Unifi, TIMES, Maxis etc.

Anyway I can deal with them? Or any channel I can contact to report them? Reminded them multiple times yet still contact me with threats for lawsuit and office visit, seriously gets into my nerve already.

UPDATE: Issue resolved, the debt collector claimed to be in charge for our company account called and said they already updated their "system" and no longer need to contact me for billing and payment. Portal also updated where the account for 5G simcard can be paid through portal like usual.

Long story short, a group of troublesome tenants moved in next to us three years ago (landed). They've been causing a ruckus for most of the time, and this year was particularly bad.

Here's a list...

1. Shouting and fighting amongst themselves almost every night (we can hear bottle/glass smashing; obviously drinking)
2. Having a crowd of people at late night making noises
3. Crashed their car and left the damaged car on the street (almost 6 months now)
4. Blocked our gate with their car
5. One heavily tattooed person being super aggressive, constantly picking fights. (Especially when I told him to park nicely so I can park my car)

Unfortunately, a couple of days ago I had an argument with the tattooed person because he was blocking my gate. I had to dial 999 in front of him because he was gesturing to hit me and threatened to damage my car.
Unfortunately, again, dialling 999 was not easy. The 999 line was immediately cut off after the robot voice? Dialled 999 twice and both times kena cut off.
My phone popped up a GPS location showing my exact house address and all, so maybe they received the call? He eventually moved his car and left after I showed myself calling polis.
I was also expecting a callback from 999, but nothing. Polis also didn't turn up after 10 minutes so I just left.

Should I report polis? Mind you, I was facing 3 of them alone. Also the tattooed guy looks drugged, bloodshot eyes and being super aggressive.
Just worried they might buat more hal jer after i repot polis.. Also takut geng affiliated or wat...

Fabric sofa spot cleanser machine,

I have a fabric sofa which needs wholesome cleansing. Previously, I've engaged sofa cleanser team to do the cleansing using vacuum but it's quite for each cleansing. I'm thinking of doing it myself by buying the spot cleanser vacuum which cost 200-400 depending on model.

Has anyone actually owned and used such vacuum before? Is it worth owning such machine from sofa cleansing from time to time? Or will it end up as white elephant after using once
