D-Link DPN-FX3060V GPON OpenWrt Router
A GPON WiFi Router (All in One) based on Realtek SoC Processor that given by TM for Unifi Ultra Subscriber,
it share same Realtek LUNA SDK as my PON Stick Project. So I quite familiar with the layout.

Porting Effort
As I dissemble the firmware back then in May 22 2024, it's look promising that DPN-FX3060V can be ported to OpenWrt, at early stage OpenWrt boot and basic LuCI came up.
LUNA SDK manage quite different than LuCI way, so I need make a bridge between LUNA <> LuCI interface, more I work on Ghidra, I feel lazy to do it as effort are too much and not worth it, especially decomp effort are high. All my research, LUNA SDK stash away...
With help of Open PON Community, Pedro Teixeira Lantiq Falcon source code, LUNA SDK and Claude + Ghidra MCP made porting possible...

Stock Finding...
1. This router (RTL9607DQ) actually has all 4 LAN port HiSGMII (2.5Gbps), just need to interface with RTL8221B each port (this will increase BoM cost)
2. BSS Coloring is disabled, probably compatibility to play nice with WiFi 5 (Ethernet Thinking)
3. TWT not supported, SoC has but kernel disabled and cannot enable
4. OFDMA disabled...
5. Adhere to Regulation, Radio power and HE drop when DFS in effect and stay slow indefinitely, because of this WiFi become so crap
6. 802.3ad/balance rr not supported by SoC You cannot do bonding out of A1 ONT

Verdict, wasted opportunity for WiFi 6.

What to Check When Choosing a PoE Switch, PoE switch selection tips

When adding more Wi-Fi access points to a network, I believe the switch deserves as much attention as the access points themselves.

A PoE switch can make installation easier because it sends both data and power through the Ethernet cable. I would not choose one just based on how many ports it has.

Here are a things I would check before buying a PoE switch:

PoE budget: How total power does the switch provide? Will it be enough for all the access points I plan to connect?

Power standard: Does the switch support the PoE standard that the devices need, like 802.3af, 802.3at, or 802.3bt?

Port speed: Are the switch ports fast enough for the access points, especially if some support 2.5GbE speeds?

Uplink capacity: Could the connection between the switch and the main network become too slow and cause a bottleneck?

Future expansion: Is there room to add access points later, maybe cameras or other PoE devices?

I would also double-check compatibility. A switch might have plenty of ports. Still not work well if its power limit or port speed does not match what the network needs.

While I’ve been comparing networking gear I've looked at wavonline’s UniFi switching and routing equipment to see what options are available.

For those who have installed PoE switches in a home or small business setup, what do you usually look at first: the power budget, port speed, uplink capacity, or space for expansion?

What Helps WiFi Devices Roam Between Access Points, WiFi roaming and access point setup

I have noticed that even in large WiFi networks, having good coverage doesn’t always mean a good roaming experience.

When multiple access points are set up in a home, office, or building, devices often need to move from one access point to another while someone is walking around. If the handoff between access points is not managed well, the connection may briefly slow down. Drop even when there’s a strong signal from another access point nearby.

First, I look at how the access points are placed. There needs to be overlap so that a device can switch smoothly between them. Too much overlap can cause interference and make things worse. The goal isn’t to make every access point transmit at power. It’s about balance.

Client behavior also matters. Different phones, laptops, and other wireless devices do not always make the decisions about when to switch access points. Some devices may hang on to the access point longer than needed. This can lead to problems when the signal weakens, and the new access point is not used in time.

It’s also important to check that all access points are configured the same way. Using channels, security settings, or other wireless options across access points can make the network confusing and harder to manage.

Network capacity is another factor. An access point might have a signal, but if it’s handling too many connected devices, performance will suffer. Adding another access point can help. Only if it’s placed right and set up correctly.

While looking into wireless networking equipment, I’ve been checking out wavonline to compare types of networking and WiFi equipment. It helps me see what’s available for setups.

I think roaming is one of those things that can be hard to spot by running a speed test. A network can show speeds but still feel frustrating when moving from one room to another.

For people who manage networks with access points, what has made the biggest difference for smooth roaming, in your experience?

Do you usually focus more on access point placement, channel planning, client settings or the wireless features supported by the equipment?

Nightmare Porting Experience: Trapped in a Maxis-t, Sharing a frustrating broadband porting

Hi everyone,
I am writing this to share an extremely frustrating experience I’ve had trying to switch my broadband service from Maxis Fibre to TM Unifi, and to warn others or hopefully get some insights on how to deal with this bureaucratic mess.
Here is a quick summary of what happened:
The Intent: I wanted to terminate my Maxis contract/service and port over/sign up for Unifi to get better coverage/deals at my premise.
The Clear Communication: I explicitly and repeatedly informed Unifi agents and representatives that I am currently a Maxis customer and that my clear, final intention is to switch/port my line over completely.
The Breakdown: Despite giving explicit, upfront notice, the porting process hit a wall. Due to poor coordination, system backend issues, or red tape between the two telcos, the switch failed completely, leaving me in limbo.
The Result: I am stuck in a situation where neither provider is executing the transfer smoothly, resulting in wasted time, miscommunication, and potential service disruption.
I made it as clear as daylight to Unifi that I am leaving Maxis, yet the transition process feels completely broken. Telcos in Malaysia need to do better when it comes to number/line portability for fibre broadband.
Has anyone here faced a similar nightmare when switching from Maxis to Unifi? How did you finally resolve it, or who can I escalate this to (MCMC / CFM)?

What Makes a Good Fiber Uplink?, Choosing the right fiber uplink.

When I am thinking about setting up a network I believe the way switches connect to each other can be just as important as the devices that're part of the network.

Copper connections are easy to use in cases but fiber can be the right choice when the distance is longer or when a strong and fast link is needed between different parts of the network.

Some things I usually think about before picking a fiber uplink are:

* How apart the network devices are

* The speed that the link needs to provide

* Whether to use single-mode fiber or multimode fiber

* The type of connector that will be used

* If the transceivers will work with the rest of the setup

* How many switch ports are available

* What the network might need in the future in terms of bandwidth

* If the cable will be used inside or outside

I always make sure that everything works together. The cable, the connectors, the transceivers and the switch ports all need to match. Picking the fiber cable but not checking the transceiver can cause problems down the line.

I also believe it's important to plan for what might be needed in the future of just looking at the current number of users.

For people who have dealt with fiber uplinks what do you usually check first when setting one up?

Is it distance, compatibility, speed or the ability to expand that matters the most in your experience?

I recently signed up for Time's broadband service, which offers 1 Gbps download and 500 Mbps upload speeds and comes with a free Wi-Fi 6 router. After the technician completed the installation, I immediately tested the service (ONU model: HG8140H5; Router model: HG8154X6-10; Test environment: 1 device connected to the router, iPhone 16 Pro Max A3295, 5G Wi-Fi) Test results:

I'm very satisfied with the speed I'm getting from the carrier's default device—it's even exceeded my expectations.

However, due to my personal preference, I still prefer to use my own ONT and router.

I recently bought a brand-new 2.5G GPON ONT online, but I have run into a rather tricky issue: I don’t have the superadmin/telecomadmin username and password for my current TIME ONT.

I followed the advice mentioned in some of the Lowyat threads and asked the installer/technician if he could provide me with the superadmin credentials. However, I was told to contact TIME customer service myself.

At that point, I figured the chances of getting the credentials directly from TIME CS would probably be quite low, so I haven’t found a better solution yet.

Therefore, I’d like to ask the Lowyat members here: what is currently the best way to obtain the superadmin/telecomadmin credentials for a TIME ONT?

Any advice or experience with replacing the stock TIME ONT with a customer-owned GPON ONT would also be greatly appreciated.

Nginx TLS 1-3 handshake timeout on enterprise web,

We are optimizing server-side network performance for an enterprise web portal (hdclaims.co.uk) hosted on an Nginx reverse proxy cluster.

Issue Description:

When users on certain regional ISP networks attempt to complete multi-step dynamic forms, the browser triggers intermittent net::ERR_TIMED_OUT errors during TLS 1-3 session resumption. Dropping back to TLS 1-2 stabilizes the connection, but increases handshake latency by over 250ms.

System Configuration:

OS: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

Web Server: Nginx 1.24 (OpenSSL 3.0)

Target Domain: (hdclaims.co.uk)

Steps Taken:

Configured ssl_session_cache shared:SSL:10m; and verified session ticket validity.

Tested MTU path discovery settings to ensure packets are not being fragmented at the ISP edge.

Confirmed that direct API calls via cURL execute without drops.

Is there a known TCP window size or TLS ticket rotation issue when serving dynamic form DOM payloads over TLS 1-3 on Nginx?

Any technical suggestions would be appreciated!

▍ ΕΛΠΙΣ RECURSIVE RESOLVERS

A recursive DNS resolver in portable C99, for people who would rather not send every lookup to Google or Cloudflare.
It does the recursion itself - root servers, TLDs, authoritative servers - so your queries stay between you and the servers that actually hold the answers.

2nd resolver in the world to validate ML-DSA-44 (post-quantum) DNSSEC, after Cloudflare!

ADoX: asks the root, the TLDs and each domain's name server over DNS over TLS wherever they take it, and plain DNS where they don't. So far b.root-servers.net and Facebook's name servers do.
ML-DSA-44, as strict as Cloudflare: when a zone says it's signed with ML-DSA, a classic P-256 signature can't stand in for a broken ML-DSA one.
Root key rollover on 11 October 2026: ready. The new root key, KSK-2024 (key tag 38696), is already trusted.
Tested: passes all 313 dnscheck.tools DNSSEC tests (1.1.1.1 passes 285), and answers over 30 million queries a day across our resolvers.

I started went into the rabbit hole of homelabbing and realized the current dlink router from unifi is not good enough. Totally newbie in networking and am looking to upgrade it with either of the option as title.

Something i definitely need will be vlan segmentation, to separate the server / IOT out into its own zone. Might look into wireguard too.

Checked shopee and Flint is around 550 and Mikrotik 480 but that 70 diff should be fine if Flint is much better.

Any suggestion?

Hi guys, I’m with CelcomDigi that tapped into Unifi infrastructure. I experienced iCloud not working since three months ago. All files not able to be upload or download unless I switch to mobile connection or using ProtonVPN.

I tried to ping iCloud.com and 50% of the packets are timed out but 100% fine with VPN.

iCloud also work fine with WiFi at other place. Anyone know what’s the solution?

Hi sifus,

As per title im planning to replace my ethernet cable that is hidden inside wall for a double storey terrace. According to the house owner manual it says the cable used is a cat5e, but from my router the connection speed is only 100mbps link speed. all the cable i use are printed cat5e, so i suspect the ethernet inside wall is not using cat5e cable hence need to replace it.

Anyone in klang valley can introduce me technician who provide this service?

Sounds good right? Nope. Because what we had for free, they are putting behind a paywall. So unless you use their pfsense plus and subscription based model, don't expect to be able to use it. That's fine (they are within their rights to monetize for their work, i get that), but i don't want them to kill off pfblocker in the process which i suspect they will.

If you want to stick to pfsense, then do the changes needed if you use pfblocker.

Or, if you are fedup with pfsense and want something similar with a pfblocker like feature, opnsense can replicate it somewhat
