Hey guys, i came across this Broadband called Freshtel Internet when i was helping my friend from China settled down at their new house in Old Klang Road, KL, since my friend was desperately need wifi at home as they are youtuber, so with curiosity we went to their retail shop and see what they offer. The price for the plan was nearly what offer with other ISP, but one thing caught my eye, they offer plan with no contract. Yes no contract, immediately after confirm no other hidden T&C my friend decided to give it a try.

This happen last month and til now they are happily using it, this is their first great decision they have make since making the move to Malaysia as they claims..... hahaha

[WTA] 5G Modem Compatibility, H150-370

I just got my hands on the Brovi H150-370.

The modem is unlocked, and from what I understand it only supports 5G SA even though it supports the usual 4G anchoring band for 5G NSA (LTE B28).

I cannot seem to get the the modem to latch onto Yes 5G's SA despite locking on to N28 and N78. In fact, when I forced that, it simply detects nothing. Forcing locking onto B28 and N78 in the hopes of getting it to somehow work as 5G NSA produced the same result (with the 5G band part, but B28 works fine so it works in 4G mode) with one notable quirk: In the cell information page, it detects N78.

I am in an area with good 5G coverage of both SA and NSA, verified with other devices.

The modem works flawlessly in 4G+ mode.

Any ideas?

TIA

Maxis supported line speed, Peak at 1Gbps but existing is 2Gbps?

I'm currently transferring from Unifi to Maxis Family 399 plan

Existing premise has 2Gbps Unifi, 2.5Gbps ONU/ONR supplied by Unifi

Maxis just got back to me this morning and informed me that their tech said that my place only supports 1Gbps max. Asked the agent why only 1Gbps when my existing line is 2Gbps, they just informed me that Unifi might be 1+1Gbps instead of 2Gbps full line, which I know it's not as I'm one of the later adopters of 2Gbps where the line is 2Gbps single line instead of 1+1.

Is this just TM's infra kneecapping Maxis from getting the maximum speed possible for their clients?

Not even a week into new Maxis Home Fibre plan, Already causing problems

Hi all, not sure if anyone can even help.

Been using 30mbps Maxis Home Fibre for YEARS, and never had an issue (even when they discontinued 30mbps, I quietly stayed on 30mbps for years and still paid the same RM89 as their current 100mbps) .

Last month, butt itchy and decided to upgrade to their 100mbps, thinking that I would be getting a speed upgrade, and still pay the same monthly fee of RM89.. Bad mistake.

- 2 days right before TM&Maxis came to fix the new modem&router .. Suddenly I can't visit certain websites like maybank2u , speedtest.net (OOKLA), reddit, quora, etc, etc... MANY websites. - BUT surprisingly, I can still browse and use Lowyat, WhatsApp Web, Youtube, Facebook, Google Drive .. ANYTHING ELSE would result in "This site can’t be reached" .

- Called Maxis, was told to wait for the new router & modem upgrade, and see if problem persist.

- After installation, it was good for about 5-6 days, and suddenly on 4th March, SAME THING happen again. Slow internet speed, and many websites can't be reached, EXCEPT the few Facebook/Youtube/Whatsapp Web/Drive .

- Complained to Maxis, long story short, agent claims they are getting "proper speeds from speedtest on their side".. And after their useless resetting and diagnostics, they escalated to "2nd level" (Who the hell is on 2nd level? TM?)

- Called them again and again till today, and latest update is they are trying to "check my IP, and also check with those website that I can't reach, like Maybank and Speedtest.net". And so far "Maybank said no issue on their server" .... WTH ? Are they going to check with EVERY single website I can't visit? Sounds like bullsh*t to me.

I HAVE A STRONG FEELING there is something else going on here? Are they blocking my usage and not providing me a proper IP Address or something like that, on purpose? (Please pardon me, as I'm not knowledgeable enough on Network and Broadband as many of you)

Because now I am bound to a new 2-year contract. So I'm sure they know "as long as I can still browse" , I can't terminate or leave . Right? Is there something I should know? Or am I thinking too much on this?

Hope someone can shed some light for me, cause I'm seriously feeling helpless and clueless on this Only thing I know is to report to MCMC or KPDN .. What else can I do if they don't solve this?

How to have wired internet to all house rooms?, For terrace house TM contractor

Hi, doing subsale landed terrace house renovation now, and want to create new fibre Internet for the house. Current place have the option of TIME, however it's an old landed house (20 years+), and seem to have old existing TM phone lines and internet wires from previous house owner (who last stayed around year 2011 era so I am assuming already have some kind of fibre wires. However, the wires seems to travel and enter the house from outside TM green box from backyard lane, to upstairs room (and it comes down from upstairs room ceiling).

Need a expert and knowledgeable contractor to come and check. And perhaps I will stick with TM Unifi first (since my old parents house has been using TM Unifi all these while and not too too bad la), then maybe next time only consider port out to TIME. Plus I need TM people to check the old existing wires/phone lines/ports and what are they.

Is it sufficient to just walk in to any TMPoint nearest to me and tell them I want to create new account? Are their random contractors good enough? My maincon contractor not so expert in all these kind of things (only do plumbing and tiles all those), hence need an internet and fibre expert to see what will be the best setup for me.

My requirements are simple though, just need Ethernet point wired connection in downstairs living room, one downstairs guest room, and one upstairs room. And WiFi for the rest. Just thinking how the wiring gonna be (plus prefer concealed but if exposed still ok as long as the fibre wire not too visible). What type of wires? Where best to put the router with antenna signal? How the fibre will enter from TM green box from backyard to downstairs living room, or upstairs?

4G+ Modems, Alternative to 5G

In these days of 5G, 4G is still going strong for home wifi, with such modems as the Huawei B618 and B818 having their own set of enthusiasts and proud owners, often clocking speeds that are more than sufficient for day-to-day use. Speeds of above 40Mbps and sometimes as high as 300Mbps are possible with this mature technology. As 5G speeds start to slow down due to general increased uptake, I find myself more often than not falling back to 4G+, with both 4G modems and 5G modems.

Let's discuss what 4G+ modems there are out there, and ones which you have used.

I'll start.

I have the

🔹Huawei B818-263
🔹Huawei B535-333
🔹OLAX MC80
🔹Huawei E5783-230a
🔹Evoluzn FX-ID7
EDIT: I forgot I also have ZTE MF286C3

The prize winner is undoubtedly the B818 being an LTE Cat19 modem, but my recent favourite is the PLDT branded Evoluzn FX-ID7 (Cat6)

[WTA] ZTE G5TS Poor Performance, Slow 3-5Mbps even on 5G

Paging for people using the ZTE G5TS modem.

I have been experiencing a consistent poor performance even on 5G and when the signal is reasonably strong regardless the time of day. For the first few minutes, it would get around 100Mbps (which is slower when compared to other modems I have e.g. ZTE G5B1, but still acceptable), then after a few minutes, it would drop to around 3-5Mbps. Restarting the modem repeats the same cycle.

At first I thought it was thermal throttling but then again putting it in a room with AC or even a cooling fan underneath does not change this. Changed sim (Celcom & U Home) - same.

I have been in touch with ZTE and they asked me to contact HighPoint.

Anyone?

TLDR: If you have WIFI6E router, skip WIFI7,

If you have a wireless mesh backhaul that uses WIFI6E 6GHz dedicated extra band, there is really no need to upgrade to WIFI7 now.

TP-Link Archer AX53 WiFi random lag & ping spikes,

Hey everyone,
I’m hoping someone here has seen this before or managed to fix it.

My current setup:

Main router:
* TP-Link Archer AX73

2nd floor AP:
* TP-Link Archer AX53 (wired backhaul, AP mode)
* The AX53 is placed just outside my room
* Internet: 500 Mbps fiber
* Wi-Fi card: TP-Link Archer TBE550E PCIe Wi-Fi 7 Adapter

The issue is only with Wi-Fi on the AX53.

When connected to the AX53 via Wi-Fi, I randomly get:

* Sudden slow speeds
* Ping spikes / unstable latency (especially noticeable for gaming)

What’s strange:
* If I plug into the AX53 via LAN, everything is rock solid
* Signal strength is strong
* Backhaul is wired, not mesh
* The problem doesn’t seem to happen on the AX73 Wi-Fi downstairs

Things I’ve already tested:

* Different devices (same issue)
* Different locations near the AX53
* Confirmed LAN to AX53 is stable

So it really feels like the AX53’s Wi-Fi itself is the problem, maybe firmware, radio issue, channel width, or something similar.

I’ve attached speedtest / ping results showing good Wi-Fi speeds, so raw throughput isn’t the issue.
Despite that, latency will randomly spike, which is very noticeable during gaming or video calls.

Questions:

Has anyone experienced random Wi-Fi lag / ping spikes with the AX53, especially in AP mode?

Any settings that actually helped? (channel width, features to disable, firmware version, etc.)

Or is this just a limitation of the AX53 hardware?

I’m also open to upgrade suggestions if replacing the AX53/AX73 is the realistic solution — I prefer wired backhaul APs, not wireless mesh.

Note:
I understand that LAN will always be the best and most stable option, and I do use LAN when possible.
For this case, I’m specifically trying to improve Wi-Fi stability and ping consistency, so I’d really appreciate advice focused on Wi-Fi tuning or hardware limitations rather than just switching to LAN.

Upgrade wifi router, to cheap wifi6

After my rather old Tenda A6 AC1200 gave up on me last week, I started surveying replacement options.
After comparing prices and doing quite a bit of research across several brands at physical stores, my choices narrowed down to TP-Link, Totolink, and Asus. However, Wi-Fi 6 models generally cost from RM150++ up to RM399.

In the end, I decided to order and test the Xiaomi AX3000T, as it requires minimal technical configuration and, fortunately, supports VLAN ID settings for Maxis Fibre. My initial plan was that if this model did not support VLan ID by default, I would install OpenWRT. As for sharing in this forum, Unifi and Maxis Fibre can utilized and able to configure the PPPoE dial up without much worry.

Later on, curiosity got the better of me, and I went ahead to order another Wifi6 device which is H3C NX30 Pro as well.
Although it does not have local support in term of warranty and the price cheaper by 3 fold compare to other brand. Yet, it is compatible with OpenWRT if the initial setup dont have Vlan ID setting.

Ookla: High initial median 5G speeds trending down,

This is an interesting study performed by Ookla, which shows that Malaysia initially had high median 5G speeds that have since deteriorated every single quarter. This trend is not noted in other countries from the region.

Link to report: https://www.ookla.com/articles/malaysia-tra...-network-q32025

Huawei / Soyealink B535, Freeze and restart

Hi,

Anyone using the Huawei Soyealink B535-333 having this problem?

Speed is great but the modem would quite frequently after a while freeze for about 10-20 seconds (your internet connection stops working but remain connected to the wifi, also the router page becomes inaccessible), before suddenly restarting on its own (all lights go out and turning back on by itself).

At first I thought it was overheating but putting a fan doesn't work. Plus, there can be long stretches of high speed when I download something off Steam through my PC, sometimes for hours, but the freeze and reboot doesn't happen.

Replicating the problem can be a bit hard but I notice this almost always happens when I'm watching FB reels or IG videos on the phone connected to the router. Sometimes youtube videos can also trigger this, but it happens less often.

I've cycled through three B535 modems - two from the same seller on Shopee (replacement) and one I bought through FB marketplace. All exhibit this problem.

Any ideas? Help please as I am at my wit's end.

TIA

I'm worried about not able to push the LAN cable through conduit bends.
has anyone done that before?

I haven't bought LAN cable yet. but don't want to buy and end up not able to do it.

Cheap Wifi / Home Fibre Options,

I'm currently looking for cheap options of home wifi. It doesn't really matter if it's router running on SIM card or broadband fibre. Requirement is ideally unlimited data, speed of connection is not so important.

Currently the top two are Maxis and Unifi. Are there any other options or alternatives that I may not be aware of?

With Unifi cheapest broadband fibre plan is RM89

With Maxis cheapest wifi plan is RM79

Also, I heard from someone that Maxis will offer promotion from time to time with cheap wifi or fibre plans. Does anyone have any information on this?
