Guitar grades exam still worth it?,

I mean. I'm just a hobbyist. I'm not a professional guitarist. I don't teach at music school.

I play guitar for fun. Should i take the exam and get a cert? Digital exam.

Or, it's a complete waste of money. And "kinda scam" for me to pay for the exam and get the certs?

Do most casual or hobbyist musicians here actually sit for exams? Or most of you don't bother the formal cert and don't wish to get certified at all?

Hi.

I have few question regarding the acoustic guitar. Just playing for hobby.

1. How do you take care of the strings in malaysian climate? I'm talking about the 2 last strings, they always become rusty / not fun to use after a week. Did cleaning the strings and use string oil, doesn't seem to do much.
2. Where to go to try guitar? I'm interested to try one of those hybrid nylon string guitar with thinner neck.
3. I like the sound from silk & steel strings, but it's rather too squeaky. Any string that sounds the same but less squeak?

Electronic Drums in Condo?, Share your experiences!

Looking to get an electronic kit for my condo. I know that the kick drum usually transmits the loudest sound to the unit below. I'm more worried about that as the budget of drums im looking at have mesh pads already.

Anyone here have experience using electronic drums in condo? I've seen quiet kick pedals like the KT-9/KT-10 as well, but it still makes audible noise.

Anyone here have sunken key issue on your digital piano? Do you send for repair or DIY to fix it?
It seems to be a common issue on digital piano and The full set of hammer rubbers is super expensive.
No wonder ppl selling off the keyboard after some years.

Guitar legato using midi?,

Just wondering,

Instead of using multi fx or analog pedals or software like bias fx,

is it possible to use any software like MIDI for example?

The purpose is to have a very clean legato shredding.

You play guitar, your signal is converted into MIDI and then MIDI notes are turned into guitar tone.

So that your legato sounds clean and perfect.

Because if we use analog pedals or multi fx, it will pick up our picking strength, string noises when you move the fingers, and some small, tiny, detailed unwanted noise. And it may also be noticeable between the picked notes and non-picked notes.

What if we convert our guitar playing into MIDI and from MIDI to guitar tone, then, everything becomes even and "kinda robotic but still sounds okayly natural" and the legato just sound even and perfect for every note and you don't need to worry how hard/light you should pick, etc.

Anyone wonder about this?

I know you might ask why not use compressor pedal instead, but it's still not perfect. It still picks up the analog signal we play on guitar and compress the signal.

What I want is absolute perfection and we digitalize our guitar signal into MIDI and from MIDI we output the guitar tone. Every note is perfect and clear.

Do you agree this? Just me wondering and I wish to try it but no idea how to do the MIDI stuff.

Guitar amplifier settings,

I have tried different treble, mid and bass settings on my Yamaha amplifier and I dont like the sound I got (my acoustic guitar equaliser is set at about 50, 25 & 50%).

I know different settings for different amplifiers, guitars etc. But I appreciate it if you can share some tips for me to try and hopefully get the settings I like.

Hissing sound from a new amplifier. Why?,

I bought a Yamaha GA15 II.

Disappointed when I plugged in my Yamaha acoustic guitar to hear the hissing sound. Got worse when I switched on the Drive mode.

A. Reasons for the hissing sound?

B. How can I do to fix this annoying sound?

Is this problem common in most budgetary amplifiers?

I have been an acoustic guitar aficionado for almost 10 years. I don't play with bands or go solo. It's just my hobby and what I do with my leisure time.

There are a few Guitar Shops in KL/Selangor that do carry Martin guitars from their store. But the selection is very limited, only the Standard Model comes with it.

I want to know if is there a way that we can buy Custom Shop pieces and then do the shop installment plan instead of buying all in cash.

Any Martin Guitar Collectors here can share how they bought their sought after dream guitar and how is their buying process goes?
