[Beta] Auto Social Embeds,

We are currently testing auto embeds for social media networks. Do let us know if you run into any issues.

You can post a direct link to a social media post, and the system will automatically convert it into a embed. This is an upgrade from the BB Codes previously used. BBCodes will still work to maintain compatibility with older posts, but it no longer the preferred option.

This is still a beta, and not all social channels have been comprehensively checked, so do share any issues you may run into at our feedback section.

Invite Codes [updated],

The invite code function is now live, for a select group of members. You should be able to find the link to the code in your control panel.

Keep in mind of the following.

The system is currently being fine tuned, please report any issues via PM or start a thread in the feedback section.

Your invite code is and will always be a one time code, as in in expires immediately after it is utilized for a new registration. The code is also always tied back to your account, so any abuses from accounts invited by you will result in your invite privilege to be suspended.

Once your code is utilized, you will be provided with a new code. This is currently limited to 2 per account, and will be increased once everything is in place.

Account Security - HIBP Compromised Password Check,

In view of a number of incidents involving members accounts being taken over due to weak/compromised passwords, we have brought forward the implementation of a password check against Have I Been Pwned's list of 613 million known compromised passwords.

If you're already logged in, you will not be asked to change your password even if your password has appeared on any leaks. However, you will be required to change your password at your next login (or if someone tries to access your account based on a leaked password ).

If you do not receive a password change prompt, it means your password is unique and secure, and you will not need to do anything further.

We are also currently working on 2 factor authentication, and email logins to further strengthen account security.

Account Security - Use of compromised passwords,

Dear All,

The following is in relation to a security incident yesterday (1st August 2021) that involved unauthorized access to at least 4 members accounts by a malicious 3rd party. The accounts had their passwords changed, and were then used to post unsavory content before it was locked down.

After an internal security audit, we have ascertained that the accounts were compromised as they used similar credentials (username:password combination) at Reddit.com, which suffered a breach 8 months ago.

We have also traced around 20 other accounts (which also appear on Reddit with a similar username) which were attacked in a similar way - but did not result in a breach, possibly due to different passwords/credentials being used.

Feature Upgrade

As compromised passwords and data breaches are quite rampant, over the next few days, we will be upgrading our system to include a compromised password notification powered by Have I Been Pawned (https://haveibeenpwned.com/Passwords). Should your current password exist in the breach database (there are now over 600 million compromised passwords on HIBP), you will receive an email informing you about this and recommending you to change your password. As your passwords are stored in a one way hash in our database, this check will only be done at your next login once this feature is implemented.

DuitNow Enabled in Garage Sales,

We have added on a field in the control panel to include your Duitnow details to ease the convenience of buying and selling in the Garage sales subforums.

You can now enable DUITNOW acceptance on your account by editing your profile info and entering your DuitNow ID (e.g. your mobile number).

The DUITNOW button will appear at the bottom left of your Garage Sales sales threads.

[SOLVED] Issues with yahoo email (@yahoo.com),

We (and many other sites) are having issues delivering emails to the yahoo domain (@yahoo.com) over the past couple of weeks, due to some anti-spam changes implemented at yahoo recently.

The majority of emails (subscription, password recovery etc) are all bouncing back with the following error.

554 5.7.9 Message not accepted for policy reasons. See https://help.yahoo.com/kb/postmaster/SLN7253.html

We are trying to get in touch with Yahoo to solve this issue. Meanwhile if possible try to change your email address, or send a request to helpdesk for manual password recovery if you are not able to receive emails from us at your yahoo.com email account.

p/s yahoo.com.my accounts don't seem to be affected at this point in time.

Lowyat Forums Upgrade, Downtime and Schedules

Sorry for the extended downtime over the weekend as we refresh our current servers with brand new metal. As of now, we just completed Phase 1 of the upgrade, and will be making further upgrades over the coming weeks. Most of the downtime is expected to be over the weekends.

Imgur has blocked image hotlinking on our forum. The current http workaround might not be permanent. Members are advised to use this imgur tag to embed images properly instead of using direct hotlinking.

Internet Explorer 6/7/8 security warning prompt,

We recently enabled HTTPS for all visits to the forum. If you use IE 6, 7, or 8, you will encounter a browser security warning prompting you if you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely:

We have taken all measures to resolve this, but ultimately gave up because IE continues to prompt even though there is no mixed content.

Your options are:

1) Upgrade to IE 9. Mixed content handling is improved in this version and won't prompt you obtrusively.

2) Use a different browser like Firefox or Chrome.

3) At your own risk, suppress mixed content warnings in IE's settings:
