“Lepas tu dia (salah seorang daripada suspek) kata buka baju, seluar."Lepas tu 10 kali naik turun, duduk bawah, naik (ketuk ketampi).
“Lepas dah 10 kali (ketuk ketampi), dia (kawan saya) naikkan seluar. “(Lelaki) tu cakap saya tak ada cakap you (kena) naikkan seluar, kenapa you naikkan seluar?” katanya.

"Dia (mangsa) cakap jangan potong (kemaluan).

Rare: Tech News Malaysia

Researchers have turned pineapple leaves into drone parts
The bio-composite material degrades within two weeks after it's buried.
Kris Holt, @krisholt
2h ago
University Putra Malaysia professor Mohamed Thariq holds pineapple leaves and a drone partially made with pineapple stems, in Jenjarom, Malaysia December 12, 2020. Picture taken

December 12, 2020. REUTERS/Lim Huey Teng
Lim Huey Teng / reuters

Researchers in Malaysia have found a way to turn fiber from pineapple leaves into material sturdy enough to make drone frames. Professor Mohamed Thariq Hameed Sultan of Putra University told Reuters that drones built with the material had a higher strength-to-weight ratio than frames made with synthetic fibers. They're cheaper and lighter, too.

A damaged frame can be buried and the bio-composite material will degrade within two weeks, according to the researchers. They say prototypes made from the material have flown to around 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) and, like many other drones, they can stay aloft for about 20 minutes. The researchers aim to make larger drones that can carry bigger payloads, such as imaging sensors for agricultural use.

The project, which started in 2017, is geared towards finding sustainable uses for pineapple waste. Farmers often burn or discard of the leaves after harvest, which can cause air pollution. Selling the waste instead would increase their income and may benefit the environment.

https://www.engadget.com/drones-sustainabil...-200222549.html

lucky to get past 1 page

Forwarded
This is for all my fellow Malaysians who are still abroad; I hope this gives you a little insight on what went on during my journey from the UK all the way to the hotel I am quarantined in in KL. To my non-Malaysian friends, this is me unabashedly showing off the exemplary work by our government. This is my tribute to the countless men and women in duty who assisted us with so much care and respect.

It all started on the plane from Doha to KL, where I had transited from Manchester. With a mere 50 people on the plane, we were all fairly separated to sit in isolation from one another. After taking off, we were handed a Health Declaration form to fill up. In addition to the general information (name, age, etc), COVID specific questions were also asked. It even asked for our flight and seat number- I figured it was to track down those who came in contact with a suspected COVID-19 patient.

When I landed in KLIA, we were greeted warmly by 2 men in uniform at the end of the jet bridge. One was coordinating us to queue, strictly keeping in mind the 1m gap, and the other was guiding us to the skytrain on a Segway. As we approached the skytrain, another policewoman took over and brought us to the bus lounge, where we boarded a bus to the arrival hall. Each bus had a maximum of only 10 people, and the seats were marked with an ‘X’ to make sure we sat adjacent to each other. In the bus was another policewoman who made sure we went in one by one, and only allowed the next person to enter once the previous one had sat down. A recurring theme you would find is that at every ‘checkpoint’ there were at least 1-2 officers who did their job so diligently, that there was no hold up, making the process very smooth. It felt as if this was an extremely well thought out procedure that had been going on for years. All the i’s were dotted and t’s crossed.

Once we alighted the bus, we walked to the immigration counters and were screened by an infra-red thermometry system. After passing it, we were guided towards a team of health officials from KKM on the right. I was very impressed with the number of health officials and the amenities provided for them. There were around 10 officials in what looked like full hazmat suits, each provided with a chair and table. I was greeted by this lovely woman, who asked for my health declaration form and reaffirmed if I had any symptoms. The constant glee on her face and referring to me as “adik” made me feel like I was in safe hands. The first step to addressing a crisis is to calm the stakeholders. It is the little things like these that reassures one in an anxiety driven situation. She then gave me a home assessment form where I had to monitor and report my symptoms daily.

After clearing the immigration, we queued up to sanitize our hands, and then were given another form to register our particulars and emergency contacts. We sat down and filled up the forms while waiting for 3 more batches of people to arrive. After 20 minutes passed, a police officer gave us a short briefing on the do’s and don’ts while in quarantine. The question on everyone’s minds was “where are we being taken?”. I overheard conversations of people praying that it was a five-star hotel in KL. However dire the circumstances, the innate Malaysian tendency to always expect luxury never fades, does it? The policeman politely replied that he wasn’t sure where we were going to be quarantined, but assured us it was going to be a good place nevertheless.

Then we were escorted by another officer to the baggage claim area where our luggage had already been taken off the baggage carousel and organized for us to simply go and grab them. I figured that this was to reduce the contact between people in case we crowd around the conveyer belt. This also significantly reduced the time taken for us to get re-organized. Take note of the little details that the authorities paid attention to.

Later on, the same police officer led us to the arrival hall where 3 Smart Selangor buses had already been parked for us to board. Before entering the bus, a fireman proceeded to fumigate our luggage and backpacks one by one, while we sanitized our hands once more before being handed a bag full of snacks by another officer. In the bus was a lady who helped us load our luggage. It was very systematic, only allowing one person in the bus at a time to maintain social distancing.

We waited for around 30 minutes for all 3 batches of people to board the buses. My mind was still in a state of disbelief, I and kept wondering how much manpower and logistics it must have taken to make the process as smooth as possible and achieve this insane level of efficiency. Before leaving, the bus driver announced that we were being taken to Impiana KLCC Hotel. Mental gasps could be heard from the 15 people in the bus.

The journey to the hotel was just short of 50 minutes. We were all aghast looking at the sight before us when we reached the hotel. People were busy clicking pictures and taking videos of the scene that frankly seemed like it belonged to a distant dystopian future. Dozens of people in full hazmat suits were standing by a long table which looked like an assembly line, busy screening and registering us aliens. Before we got off the bus, a man in a PASKAU uniform briefed us on the next course of action. He told us to keep our passports ready for registration. We patiently helped each other with the luggage (still maintaining an appropriate distance) and queued up according to yellow tapes on the ground. I was standing in line between two sisters, so I offered the one behind me to take my spot but she politely declined. Soon enough, it was my turn.

The lady at the start of the table proceeded to check my temperature with a temperature gun and passed me another form, similar to the home assessment one. I then handed my passport to the next guy who immediately photo stated it with the photocopier behind him. While waiting for my passport, the following person asked for my phone number and my place of origin. After I received my passport, I was given the room key along with two masks and was quickly thrusted into the hotel. While it seemed quick and rushed, it was effective as the primary goal was to limit as much contact with others as possible.

As I walked in, I saw the girl who was in front of me struggling with her 4 huge bags, so me and another KKM personnel assisted her into the lift. We had a brief conversation and I got to know that she was a third-year student who had to leave the UK and pack her things for good overnight. Laughing at the fact that our rooms were next to each other, we bid goodbye and stormed into our rooms. In the room were two boxes of bottled water, plastic bags for the contaminated clothes, a huge bag filled with coffee, biscuits and snacks and so on. We are being served good nutritious food three times a day and housed in a four star (some five star) hotel all for free of charge. There is 24/7 surveillance and a medical team at our doorstep at all times. I bow down to this great nation with utmost humility, thank you for this Malaysia.

This lockdown/ quarantine has really cultivated the sense of community and the innate feeling of unity that we had lost. Though the time frame of when this epidemic will end is still unclear, it became clear to me that we will pull through, because that’s what Malaysians do best. This was further proven when all 74 of us quarantined at Impiana KLCC were added into a WhatsApp group by Lieutenant Zakee (who was in charge of our welfare in the hotel) for ease of communication. The group was instantly flooded with messages of hope, optimism and love and gratitude for the lieutenant, health workers and other officers who heroically put our welfare in front of their own lives.

Why am I writing this? This is a primary account of someone who experienced the plight of leaving a foreign country overnight with an uncertain future. This is to counter the fake narratives online that seek to defame our great nation. The entire ecosystem functioned like a well-oiled machine, NO stone was left unturned. It is not an overstatement when I say that Malaysia has been one of the most proactive countries with tackling the menace of COVID-19. Therefore, I urge the armchair economists at home, the constant naysayers- if you cannot acknowledge the good our government is doing, at least don’t stand in their way.

Thank you again, Malaysia, for keeping me safe. I have always been, am always, and will always be a proud citizen of this country that has given me so much.

Tanah tumpahnya darahku!

- Shacind Ananthan
(@shacindananthan)

Stimulus Package my thoughts

I did not vote for this government, but they did a hell of a job. He answered his critics with his stimulus package. Congratulations.

Bila ada krisis kepimpinan dan trust issues, he puts government servants back on their positions, like, SPRM and AG. He installed merchant bankers as MoF to get the people and agencies trust back to MoF and BNM, after LGE destroyed the reputation of these institutions.

Religious Minister is replaced with government administrator who is not controversial and well liked by everyone.

Well, Malay Mail has tried to lie and attacked him. That was the first and will not be the last. Malay Mail has yet to apologise to him. May Allah protects him.

He let's government servant in KKM to run the show instead of ministers. In crisis, let the people who know how, attends it. It creates trust. We have seen ministers run the show in PH, and recently in PN. Disaster.

PM is putting trusts back to government institutions after PH ruins it.

Most of 1.5 million government servants voted for PH and wanted changes, and PH government with their arrogance, turn back and told them, you are all corrupted and bad people. Government institution stalled, because the staffs are scared to do their job. Nobody wants to take ownership. Why should they? Why risk their pension?

PN government may not last beyond PRU15, because BN will push their agendas and muscle their way through. I doubt BN will change.

PH? Well, we have seen them run the government for 22 months. You can form your opinion. We'll, I have.. And, it is not good.

In the meantime, until PRU15, this is the PM and the government that I liked. I am going to enjoy it till it last.

I am going to likened him with Winston Churchill.. A leader who do well in crisis. We are at war.. To quote what our PM said. The government who understands the people.

Disclaimer: this is a copy and paste from a Facebook posting but this echoes my thought exactly

UNIFI what to upgrade for streaming

Hi,
Currently I have UNIFI 50 Home (50MBps Download and 20MBps upload), and my main use for unifi beside the usual browsing etc which I find the speed is very good. However movie streaming through KODI still have hiccup and buffering. May be the same time whilst movie streaming usually my kids also watch youtube and browse etc. But at 50MBps I dont think should be a problem.

I thought that at 50MBps I will not have problem KODI streaming running on MINIX Neo z64 Windows. I also use DNS Jumper to set DNS (which imrove considerably from the original speed). Current router is D-link 850 at default set-up.

other info: My house is 3 floors, and the router is on the 2nd floor. I get full bar for 2.4GHz on every floor, on 5Ghz have 3 bar on the 1st and 3rd floor.

Any suggestion on what to do to improve kodi streaming? also iflix

Excellent’ score for 18 varsities
By RICHARD LIM
educate@thestar.com.my

PUTRAJAYA: Eighteen higher education institutions achieved Tier Five or “excellent” status in the Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education 2009 (Setara).

Seven of them were public universities and the rest were private universities.

Another 25 institutions – 14 private and 11 public – were classified as Tier Four or “Very Good” while four achieved Tier Three or “Good” status.

No institution managed to get the the highest classificationof Tier Six, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin when announcing the Setara results yesterday (see chart).

“Those in Tier Five will receive incentives like being able to enrol local and foreign government sponsored students, have access to government grants and can determine their postgraduate student intake,” he said at a press conference.

Mohamed Khaled added that Tier Five private institutions would also be exempted from certain provisions in the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996 (Act 555).

They need not have to apply for teaching permits for lecturers, can determine the salary of foreign lecturers, and set course fees.

Apart from giving education providers a clear picture of their standing, the Setara results would be used as a basis to improve higher education policies, he added,

When tabling the 10th Malaysia Plan, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that Gover-nment funding for public universities would depend on a varsity’s performance in Setara.

Universiti Malaya (UM) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ghauth Jasmon said he was happy that UM was placed in Tier Five.

“This shows that we are on the right track,” he said.

“It is also a positive development in regards to obtaining grants as what UM needs is more funding to break into the top 100 in the Time Higher Education world university rankings.

“The funding will be used for critical fields like biomedical sciences, physics and nanotechnology,” he added

Five varsities in Asia's 100
By KAREN CHAPMAN
educate@thestar.com.my

PETALING JAYA: Five of Malaysia's universities are in the top 100 of the QS Asian University Rankings 2010.

Universiti Malaya (UM) is the highest ranked at 42, followed by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) at 58 and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) at 69.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is at 77, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) at 82 and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) at 159.

QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd managing director Nunzio Quacquarelli told The Star that Malaysian universities had done well, with most institutions holding close to last year's position or improving.

Rankings are a way for universities to measure their performance against one another.

There are other placings such as the QS World University Rankings seeking to identify world-class universities, while the Academic Ranking of World Universities is compiled by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The best-known college and university rankings in the United States are compiled by US News & World Report.

This is the second time top Asian universities were evaluated in a regional ranking from QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd, which compiles the annual QS World University Rankings.

QS Intelligence Unit head Ben Sowter said the data collection process for the latest rankings was from late 2009 until the end of March this year.

UKM vice-chancellor Prof Tan Sri Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabudin said rankings was only one of the measures of a university's global recognition.

“UKM will learn from the rankings and continue to pursue our core functions of research, teaching and service according to our transformation plan,” she added.

UPM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Nik Mustapha Abdullah thanked university staff for working hard.

IIUM rector Prof Datuk Dr Syed Arabi Idid, who is attending a conference in Azerbaijan, said ranking was important, although programmes to make graduates employable were more vital.

UTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Zaini Ujang said the university was progressing well according to its five-year plan, and he was glad that despite UTM not being a research university, it had ranked comparably.

USM vice-chancellor Prof Tan Sri Dzulkifli Razak said the university had formally informed QS that it was not participating in any of its rankings because of methodological flaws.

The University of Hong Kong tops the Asian University Rankings this year, followed by the Hong Kong University of Science and Techno-logy, the National University of Singapore and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

For full results, log on to www.topuniversities.com

I travel quite a bit, and roam using Celcom post paid.

Everytime I come back I have a big bill due to automated SMS checking (50sen - RM 1) per check about 50 time a day.

I been told that I can switch it off from my phone, but I cannot find settings for it, and CELCOM helpline is quite blur. Anyone can help? I'm using Nokia E-65, not the most popular around but I think the setting will be quite similar to other Symbian phone.

-amir-

Official IPTA University Ranking

At last the ranking for IPTA have been published. It uses something like a hotel rating system. Only one, university made it to the second best list.

*start copy and paste**
And only one university - Universiti Sains Malaysia - made it into the second category of "Excellent"in the first ever university perception exercise in the country. It received a five-star ranking.

Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) were lumped in the "Good" category. They had four stars.

Those in the Satisfactory list are Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia and Universiti Utara Malaysia.

None fell in the "Less Satisfactory" or "Weak" categories.

**end copy and paste*

Please take note that news about this ranking is quite scarce although it is been announced by the Higher Education Minister on Friday.

Engineering Accreditation

Accreditation for Engineering courses is only given by EAC (Engineering Accreditation Council). LAN and other bodies will submit the application to EAC for accreditation. Public university submit directly to EAC whilst private university go through LAN. After uni get accreditation from EAC then uni submit the letter to JPA/PTPTN etc. Later this year all these body will be merged in MQA.

This is a short description about engineering accreditation. ENGINEERS need to be REGISTERED with BEM before they can practice, this is requirement by the law. You can go to jail if you do not register with BEM and still practice. This is similar requirement as doctors, since being engineers your design/decision can effect lots of lives. Note: You have to register with BEM before you can register with IEM.

Now, Malaysia do not actually being very strict about this law, but just like doctors now, it will be tightened in the future as the engineering sector matures.

Starting from 2002 Malaysia is trying to get in Wahington Accord. Under this agreement accredited program will be mutually recognized. Currently US/UK/Canada/Australia/IReland/Hong kong/New Zealand/South Africa is signatories to the accord. Singapore and Japan just been admitted last year (after 5 yrs observation). Malaysia suppose to be the signatories by the end of this year, at the moment we are under observation status with Taiwan and few other countries.

The requirement is to fulfilled ABET like accreditation so it is very though and accreditation for BEM is not automatic even for public universities, there are rumours that for 2006 Curtin University and University Malaya do not get full accreditation. Uni can get full accreditation (5 years) or partial accreditation (2 years) or no accreditation. Last year auditors from Australia/UK/Hong Kong do the auditing with auditors from BEM. Just to observe whether the auditors here conform to the Washington Accord requirements.

Only accredited courses (local and overseas) can apply for BEM registeration. The list can be found here:
http://www.bem.org.my/bemfinal/html/index.htm
and about Washington Accord here:
http://www.washingtonaccord.org/

It is important for engineers from overseas university to register with BEM (RM 50). Most public university have some sort of Engineering Society linked with IEM/BEM that make the student become student member and later automatically converted into graduate member (RM 50 also). You have to take one exam and interview before you become full member.

So before you choose engineering courses you must ensure that the course is accredited.
