"With this method, 2.57 per cent of dividends from ASNB’s Fixed Price Funds - namely Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB), ASB 2, ASB 3 Didik, Amanah Saham Malaysia (ASM), ASM 2 Wawasan, and ASM 3 - will be deducted and channelled to the respective state zakat collection centres for distribution to eligible asnaf (recipients) according to the rulings of the zakat authorities,” he said in a media briefing here, today.

Rick said the advantage of this method is that zakat payment does not reduce investment capital, allowing income to continue to be generated from the invested funds.

"This concept is also more suitable for fixed trust investments, because returns from fixed-price unit trusts come only from dividends and income distribution, not from buying and selling the units,” he said.

He added that payment through Khultah is more efficient and systematic, as unitholders do not need to calculate and pay zakat individually.

"However, payment of zakat through this method is not mandatory, but we hope that as many unitholders as possible will participate,” he said.

He noted that the method has been approved by the Fatwa Committees of the Federal Territories, Pahang, Penang, Kelantan, and Kedah.

"Discussions with other states are ongoing. Insya-Allah, by the time this method is launched in the middle of next year, we will have the agreement from the remaining states,” he said.

For information, under the al-Mustaghallat method, zakat is calculated based on income derived from an asset, not on the asset itself.

Everyday, at 8PM, my Internet got throttled to 1.2mbps for Netflix, and few other services. I tested via fast.com.

Funny thing was, some services are not affected by it (e.g. Play store, maxis speed test website...)

14th Nov update:
Issue still persist. Maxis speedtest can get high speed but when it comes to commonly used network connection (Netflix, even KFC app) speed is throttle to 1mbps

23th Dec Update:
After 43 days, the issue finally resolved. I had to escalate up from sispaa until Fahmi Fadzil and deputy minister to get the solution.

PhD Prisoner Pardoned

PETALING JAYA: A prisoner who spent the last 23 years behind bars after being convicted of killing his employer in a fit of anger is now a free man after receiving a pardon from Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in conjunction with the Selangor ruler’s 79th birthday.

The prisons department said Murad (not his real name) is the first prisoner from the Malaysian prison system to hold a PhD in business administration, which he earned while incarcerated.

FMT previously reported that Murad passed his SPM examination and acquired a diploma, a bachelor’s degree, and a master’s degree while serving time.

“During Murad’s release, a mix of joy and emotion was evident on his face after the release warrant was read out by Kajang prison director Preshahdin Monshee,” said the prisons department in a statement.

“Preshahdin also advised Murad to maintain a high level of discipline and use his knowledge to better himself after his release.”

In the statement, the prisons department said Murad started serving his sentence at the age of 14 in 2001.

In his speech, Murad expressed his gratitude to Sultan Sharafuddin for granting him the pardon and extended his thanks to the prisons department for giving him the opportunity to continue his studies and earn a PhD.

Murad said he would always remember the department’s kindness and believed in the role it played in rehabilitating inmates like him.

As a minor, Murad was not sentenced to a jail term but ordered to be detained at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor (the state where the offence took place).

Adults convicted of murder could be sentenced to life imprisonment or to death.

Under the law, detention at the ruler’s pleasure meant Murad would only be eligible for release at the discretion of the ruler.

Ayam in dilemma

So my Huawei Mate 20 Pro finally kicked the bucket yesterday after 5 years (Got weird background story below). It keeps restarting and slows down significantly. Possibly the CPU detached from mainboard already based on googling. Battery just recently replaced for RM99 at Huawei SC.

As this was the last Huawei with GMS, I would really like to continue using it. Also, the Desktop Projection feature is irreplaceable.

So I have 3 options:
1. Send the phone for CPU reball and potentially fix the issue (cons: might not work) - RM400++ Shop
2. Buy a used mainboard from aliexpress and replace it entirely (cons: need to restore the entire data back, some component might stop working with another mainboard, i heard battery need to be reprogrammed for it to work , and other complications...) - RM<200 DIY
3. Buy another used Mate 20 Pro (cons: might also have the same defect in the future, also need to restore data)- RM630~

Come advise which option is the best choice

Replacement mainboard arrived from Aliexpress. 8GB RAM upgrade from the original 6GB RAM. Successfully installed. Now restorig backup via HiSuite. Hopefully all banking app no need to activate again via ATM

Hi /k,

I would like to share useful pro tip with you guys. If roads in your area has pothole, you can make a report via this app. So far I have reported every single pothole in my area. And they have rectified the pothole every single time, albeit I'm not sure how long the repair can last

You can try it out and report whether JKR in your area ok or not.

Anyway, I did not bother to put picture since it was buggy for Android app preventing me to do so. I just pin the pothole location accurately and they will repair the road nonetheless.

I just ordered foodpanda. And the distance from the restaurant to my house is 16.4km. This begs the question, what is the max delivery radius for foodpanda. Quick googling indicate max 8km . Why got difference than actual? And is there incentive to per distance covered? Or it is per order?
