Which IEM/Headphones setup are you using (2025)?

Recently got the CrinEar Daybreak
A noticeable upgrade from the Truthear Hexa.

Sound is balanced. But I do appreciate the presence of some bass as well.
Uses a 1DD + 2BA + 2 micro-planar driver setup, and the technicals are honestly quite impressive for the price.
Great detail and staging, feels quite refined.
I do like that it comes with 4.4mm balanced input too, makes it easy to connect to certain dac/amps.

So which earphones/headphones are you using?

I know that most of us have moved past wired in favour for wireless buds.
But I very much appreciate how much Chi-Fi has greatly improved the value of wired IEMs over the past few years.
Wired IEM 5-10 years ago can't hold a candle to recent releases within the same price range.

How long can you leave a tape before residue?

I’ll be using a lot of common white masking tape.
The one that looks and feels like a paper.

Will be applying it everywhere coz of renovation.
Wanna dust proof some items.

But I’m afraid after 3-4 weeks there will be a stain.

Anyone know how long we can leave these tape on before there are sticky residue when we remove it ?

router recommendation

Hey guys.

I'm looking for a high speed router.
I've a Local area network at home where I've a NAS connected.
I seek a transfer speed of a consistent 100Megabyte per second.
Thus a stable 1Gbps or gigabit line is needed.
At the same time it has to handle somewhat high traffic as well with other devices as well.

I've other systems(about 15-25 devices) using a high speed internet connection as well. (1Gbps connection).

While a strong and wide wireless is good, the priority would be the devices connected via cat6 cables. QoS while still maintaining fast gigabit connections will be good as well but that's secondary.

Are there any suggestions for a new router ?
I've been using a Asus ac66u, which works ok(>0.8 gbps) when I reboot the router but then slows down after a few hours. It slows down to below 100mbps.

Tried restoring to factory default but it still didn't help. I thought perhaps the router is dying.

Inputs are greatly appreciated !

Windows 10 support on mac

It's been a while since windows 10 was introduced.
And the free upgrade is coming to an end.

Like most people, we do install bootcamp on to our Mac.
Issue is, windows 10 was known to give some issues with macs. It could be the resolution, trackpad etc etc...

Before I update my Imac late 2015 and MacBook Air late 2014

Thus how's your experience with windows 10 on your macs?
Is it worth upgrading ?

Intermittent connection Asus AC66U

Broadband provider
ISP/package: Fiber connection
Location:
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: Yeap, didn't help much

Personal equipment
Modem: Some fiber modem
Router: Asus AC66U (router mode) with Asus AC56U in AP mode and a TPLINK 5 port gigabit switch
Firewall used: Default firewall on Asus router.

Problem details
First occurence of problem: Several hours ago
Problem frequency: Every 30 seconds to 5 minutes
Problem description:

1. Speeds fluctuates.
- From getting the full speed (stream 1080p or even 4K video no issue to straight out unable to load webpages)
- Occasionally even flash will fail to load (appear as no flash installed)
- Sometimes certain websites will display ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED on chrome but other websites are ok (at the same time but just no images)
- using the traffic manager on the asus router, I'm able to see that I obtain 10MBPS speeds which may drop to single digit kbps speeds
- Tried to constantly ping google.com, no issues.
- When downloading games from steam, speed fluctuates as well.

2. Occurs on every device connected to the system. Computers, laptops, macs, smartphones, tablets regardless of browser

3. Tried connecting directly to the modem for 20 minutes. Or when facing with a connection issue, I can immediate swap over to a direct modem connection and it is perfectly ok. I guess it's the router issue

4. Tried restarting/rebooting/restore to factory default for the Asus AC66U router. However problem restarted despite doing that

5. Both routers and access points are in their latest firmware

6. Problem started when I try changing the wireless channel on both router and A. But I doubt this could be the issue as I face the problem even on LAN connected systems

7. I've a HDD connected to the Asus AC66U router, I do not face any issue accessing and editing the files inside. Also I do not face any issue when mirroring my apple TV which is connected via ethernet to said router.

8. DNS server set to google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

9. Swapped CAT 6 cables, issue persisted.

--- So what could possible be the issue ?
What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Back to my Mac (not working)

back to my Mac is an incredibly useful function that's built into most Mac.
It offers a better solution than teamviewer.

I've managed to set up back to my Mac between my 2 computers within the same LAN.
Works perfectly and far smoother than teamviewer.

But the moment I try to run screen sharing over the Internet... (One using my broadband fiber internet, the other via 4G tethering); it fails.

The error message I get is "Back to my Mac isn't working properly because your DNS server isn't responding. Contact your Isp for an alternate DNS server address and enter it in network preferences."

I tried inputting Google DNS, but it's still not working.
Any idea to solve this issue ?

Both are running the latest version of Yosemite and I'm using a Asus AC-66 router which connects to a TPlink switch and a Asus AC-56 router(acting as access point). It shouldn't be a multiple NAT configuration can may cause this issue right ?

Thanks !

Wireless solutions

These days having a wireless solution can be really helpful.
There are 3 main functions people look for.

1. Transfer of files wirelessly
2. Viewing live-view wirelessly
3. Controlling your camera wirelessly

Some cameras have build in wifi which enables all this as well.
I also notice tonnes of questions regarding eye-fi cards and so on.

However, I've been trying to look for a solution that doesn't involve buying extremely expensive wireless file transmitter.
Personally I've tried versions of Eye-fi and I realize that they're
1. Slow
2. Takes up quite a bit of battery
3. Very limited range
4. Basically only file transfer

But they're the cheapest option usually.

I've also tried hooking up the DSLR to a TP link MR3040 router
1. Basically a DIY camranger
2. Range issues (often drop connection after a 8 meters or so)
3. Lag at above 4 meters
4. Only works with android
5. Control using the DSLR itself is disabled. The physical shutter button no longer works.

However they give you the ability to control and monitor your videos from a short distance. Really useful for jibs.
It's about 8 to 15fps.

Anyone here with experience using other equipments for wireless solutions ?

Please share !

Brenizer method

I'm sure most of you are familiar with the brenizer method

In theory it seems incredibly easy to do and the results can be stunning.

It could simulate a medium format camera and you can get gigapixel images(NOT a good thing if you're not running on a high end PC)

But in actual life, things may get a bit tricky especially when

1. It's very difficult to gauge how much to shift when your image is completely blurred. How do you stitch bokeh balls that wrap when you shift your lens ???

2. Software fails to stitch.

So anyone with tips to get it right?
Such as ?

1. Pan head with marking.
2. Motorized pan head.
3. Specialized software.
4. Optimal amount if coverage/images.

iPhone 5s Audio quality

As we know, the iphone 4s has pretty good audio.
I could also use the line out to an amp if I liked.

http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/02/iphone-...ls-audio-tests/
Better than the iphone 5 (noticeable) .... and loads better than the HTC one X (very noticeable)

I'm not exactly a die-hard audiophile who would bring a separate mp3 with me but I do appreciate better music on the go.

But does anyone have any feedback on the audio of the iphone 5s ?
Is it better than the iphone 5 or iphone 4s ?
Hey everyone !!!
As you all may know, new year is in a few days time and capturing fireworks would probably be in our to-do list.
So I've opened this thread for the discussion of fireworks and possibly an outing.

Oh, and a place to spam pictures once the event is over too.

1. Where
I'm not exact sure on the best location to shoot so for this part, I'll need contributors haha.
All I know is that the biggest firework will be at KLCC and there are several nice spots to take them.

2. When
Gotta be prepared for massive jam after the countdown and be there early to book a spot.

3. How
I'm kinda of a n00b, but here's my 2 cents.
Basic equipment : DSLR in bulb mode and a Tripod.
Additional things like black card, remote shutter, photoshop skills may help too.
Don't have a remote shutter release, you can DIY easily
http://www.petapixel.com/2012/12/24/make-a...a-soda-can-tab/

Basic guide :
1. Find a nice spot
2. Frame the landscape
3. Set to MF and focus to infinity
4. ISO 100, f/10, Bulb mode
5. Open shutter when firework explodes/expands, close shutter when firework has faded.
6. Post process, merge exposure, etc etc
7. Profit !!!

Difficulties :
- Of course, one must get everything right the first time through as you can't ask them to "re-fire" the fireworks
- Smoke, lots and lots of smoke.

Fireworks shoot details
8pm
Gather at new wing Starbucks
Why 8pm? To beat the jam.

Laptop Screen becomes very very dark

I own a HP compaq Presario Laptop which is about 2 years old.
This morning it suddenly gave me problems as after I try to get out off sleep mode, the screen remained blank.

But as close inspection, it's just very very very dark.
I'm currently using a secondary monitor to see and type this at the moment.

I tried sending this to lowyat today and the repairman said it probably was the problem with the inverter.
After leaving it for 2 hours for him to repair, he told me there's nothing wrong with the inverter but somehow the wires connecting to the inverter has been disconnected.
After paying RM 80 for him to connect it back(service overprice, but I was happy I didn't have to pay much), I brought it back home and it was working fine .... for another 4 hours before the problem came back.
It's the same thing as well, suddenly became dim after I exit sleepmode.

So what could be wrong with my laptop?

Also I've never expose my laptop to any hazards(impact or moisture) before.

My maximum screen resolution decreased from 1600 x1200 to 1280 x 800

I was trying some new visual styles and although I can revert back to the original windows aero theme, but I cannot change my resolution back to normal. The other visual effect is still intact though.

What can I do to restore my screen resolution ?
