Subscribe to our newsletter here

Friday, 29 May 2026 2:47 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Screenings of the Malaysian film Konspirasi have been terminated nationwide at the request of its producers, according to the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas).

In a statement, Finas said it was informed of the decision by the Persatuan Pemamer Filem Malaysia (MAFE) and Media Prima Berhad, the distributor responsible for dealings with cinema exhibitors.

Finas said an email from the film’s producer, Elepfilm Entertainment Sdn Bhd, confirmed that the company had requested that the screenings be stopped from the stated date.

Following checks with distributors and cinema exhibitors, Finas clarified that the withdrawal of the film was initiated solely by the producers and was not the result of any directive from authorities or other parties.

The agency also confirmed that Konspirasi had received approval from the Lembaga Penapis Filem (LPF) before being accepted under the Mandatory Screening Scheme on May 14, 2026.

The film began screening nationwide on May 21, 2026, across 120 cinema screens.

Finas said it has attempted to contact the producers to seek further clarification regarding the decision to halt the screenings.

However, the producers have yet to respond despite several attempts to reach them.

The agency added that it will continue gathering information from relevant parties and provide updates as developments emerge.

The situation regarding Konspirasi being pulled from cinemas began last night when actress Che Puan Sarimah Ibrahim shared the matter on the Threads platform.

“I received another shocking piece of news — the film Konspirasi has been forced to stop screening in all cinemas immediately.

“Malaysia, what is happening? Honestly, this is the second time I’ve gone through a very strange situation involving a film,” she said in the post.

Sarimah did not elaborate further and chose to remain silent on the matter.

Her remarks also drew nationwide reactions expressing disappointment and comparing the screening durations of local films with those of foreign films.

Konspirasi centres on an enforcement body from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) carrying out a high-risk mission to dismantle corruption networks and prevent leaks of confidential information.

The film, directed by Ghaz Abu Bakar, was produced by Elepfilm Entertainment and Asia Tropical Films.

The cast includes Datuk Adi Putra, Hisyam Hamid, Alicia Amin, Shiqin Kamal, Roy Azman, Esma Daniel, and Sarimah.

In the movie, the MACC receives information about a hidden browser containing data on corrupt politicians and overseas financial transactions.

The operation, led by an elite team, initially runs smoothly but descends into chaos when part of the data begins leaking to the media and dark web platforms, triggering a national political crisis.

https://www.malaymail.com/news/showbiz/2026...ys-finas/221816

A fatal shooting incident in southern Malaysia has shocked the public after three individuals were killed in what authorities believe may be linked to a personal financial dispute. The case, which unfolded at a restaurant in Kota Tinggi, has raised concerns over the misuse of licensed firearms and escalating tensions tied to private debt matters.

Deadly Shooting At Johor Eatery Leaves Three Dead

Police in Johor confirmed that a 71-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting that left three people dead at the scene. The victims, comprising two men and a 37-year-old Vietnamese woman, were reportedly dining at a local eatery when the suspect opened fire using a shotgun.

According to authorities, all three victims succumbed to their injuries immediately, with no chance of medical intervention. The suspect was later taken into custody without resistance, bringing a swift end to the manhunt.

Investigators revealed that the firearm used in the incident was legally owned by the suspect, who had obtained a licence for agricultural purposes. Officials clarified that such licences are typically granted for pest control on farmland, not for personal disputes or public use.

Debt Dispute And Personal Ties Under Investigation

While investigations are ongoing, early findings suggest that the shooting may have stemmed from a financial disagreement. Police indicated that the female victim allegedly owed money to the suspect, although the exact amount has not yet been disclosed.

Sources familiar with the case further claimed that the woman was previously married to the suspect, adding a deeply personal dimension to the incident. Their relationship had reportedly ended several years ago, but unresolved issues may have persisted.

Authorities also noted that all parties involved were believed to have known each other, pointing to a complex web of personal and financial connections. Reports suggest that the woman had been residing in Malaysia under a valid social visit pass.

Witness Accounts Describe Calm Yet Chilling Scene

Witnesses described a disturbing yet composed sequence of events. According to accounts, the suspect had visited the same restaurant about a week prior, allegedly demanding repayment of a loan from the establishment’s owner.

During that earlier encounter, tensions reportedly escalated, with claims that the suspect was verbally abused and even physically confronted. This altercation is now being examined as a possible trigger for the violence that followed.

On the day of the shooting, the suspect is said to have entered the restaurant calmly before opening fire. After the attack, he reportedly left the scene, drove to another nearby eatery, and waited there for police to arrive.

Broader Concerns Over Firearms Control And Public Safety

The incident has reignited discussions around firearm regulations in Malaysia, particularly regarding the responsibilities tied to licensed ownership. While legal access to firearms is tightly controlled, cases like this highlight the potential risks when weapons are used outside their intended purpose.

Authorities have reiterated that misuse of licensed firearms will be dealt with severely, especially when it results in loss of life. The case is expected to undergo thorough investigation, including forensic analysis and witness testimonies.

As the community grapples with the aftermath, the tragedy serves as a stark reminder of how unresolved disputes—especially those involving money and personal relationships—can escalate into irreversible consequences.

By R. Loheswar
Wednesday, 08 Apr 2026 2:58 PM MYT
KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 – For Christian Didier Chin, the moment wasn’t just about pickleball — it was about finally seeing a childhood icon up close.

“I don’t think anyone expected him to jump into pickleball and take it to the next level,” Chin said, still visibly struck by the presence of Andre Agassi.

“It’s his charisma… his character. That’s what’s driving this,” said the local tennis ace now turned padel pro.

For Chin, 25, who once wore Agassi’s signature shoes as a young player, the impact goes beyond nostalgia. The American great’s pivot into pickleball, he said, is already inspiring a new generation locally.

“It gave more motivation for Malaysian players to want to play… to become something bigger,” he added, even suggesting that as young as seven, kids today have a “good opportunity” to shine in the sport.

That “Agassi effect” was on full display when the eight-time Grand Slam winner stepped into the venue The Hood, alongside world No. 1 Ben Johns, drawing over 100 fans into an intimate but electric setting.

Among them was Olympic badminton silver medallist Goh Liu Ying, 36, who has since traded smashes for paddles.

“Picking up is easier,” she said, comparing it to badminton’s steep technical demands. “Badminton, you need your smashes, drops, lobs… but pickleball, the barrier to entry is lower. Shots are mostly below the waist and while there nuances it’s pretty simple to learn,” she told Malay Mail.

More than that, she sees the sport thriving because of its social pull.

“I will say it’s more social,” she added, noting she has already begun introducing it to children through the Kidlympics programme.

“That’s why one of the reasons we decided to include pickleball in the Kidlympics this year was to see how popular the sport is among these under-12s. Traditional sports like ping pong and badminton have a following and the sport has its structure, but pickleball is growing so we’d like to see what the response is like.

“Either way it’s good that you have many sports around you to enjoy.”

Malaysian former badminton player Goh Liu Ying speaks to Malay Mail during the Titans Tour 26 exhibition match in Kuala Lumpur. April 8, 2026. —Picture by Raymond Manuel
Malaysian former badminton player Goh Liu Ying speaks to Malay Mail during the Titans Tour 26 exhibition match in Kuala Lumpur. April 8, 2026. —Picture by Raymond Manuel
If Agassi is the global face of the movement, then venues like The Hood are its local heartbeat — and few places capture the sport’s new-age appeal quite like it.

Owned by Low Juan Shen, 32, a former national badminton player in doubles, the sprawling centre is as much lifestyle hub as it is sporting arena. Once an abandoned exhibition space left empty for nearly seven years, Low has transformed it into a sleek, high-ceilinged playground of courts, cafés and conversation starters.

Step inside and it feels less like a traditional sports hall and more like a curated social space — polished floors, thoughtfully designed corners, and yes, even “five-star” toilets that have become a talking point among visitors. It’s the kind of place where people don’t just come to play, but to be seen.

“I think pickleball is really picking up among social players,” Low said.

“If you start with pickleball, it’s easier… at least you can hit first.”

That accessibility, he believes, is key — but it’s the lifestyle around it that keeps people coming back.

“Everyone dresses up, very Instagrammable… you got gang, you got group, you got the social aspect,” he said.

“Badminton is more pure sport. People come, they play, then they go.”

The Hood itself only opened its doors in December, born out of circumstance as much as vision after Low suffered an injury and began rethinking how sport could be experienced.

What followed was an ambitious rebuild: multiple pickleball courts, badminton as a nod to Malaysia’s roots, upcoming padel courts, tennis simulators and even indoor tennis spots still under renovation — all housed within a massive, once-forgotten space that previously hosted trade fairs before falling silent.

For newcomers worried about breaking into the scene, Low insists the barrier is as low as the net.

“Just join the community group,” he said, referring to an active WhatsApp chat that organises daily social games.

“Who want to join, put their name… strangers can come and play.”

And while hardcore pickleball fans may idolise Johns, Low knows who delivers the bigger punch with the public.

“Ben is actually super popular among the social players and he is good, likeable too but to be honest, more people know Agassi,” he said with a laugh.

“If you say Ben Johns, pickleball people will know. But Agassi… everybody reacts.”

It is that blend — global star power and local community — that is fuelling pickleball’s surge in Malaysia.

Agassi along with a host of top players like Ben, Tyson McGuffin, Collin Johns, Anna Bright, Federico Staksrud, Brooke Buckner, Kate Fahey and Len Yang, Andie Dikosavljevic, Ken Tam, Kenta Miyoshi and Aiko Yoshitomi are all in Malaysia for two days to promote the tour and sport.

Goh and Andie partnered to play several matches with the fans while Christian and Ben played against each other with their respective partners. All matches were up to three points so more fans could participate.

https://www.malaymail.com/news/sports/2026/...es-in-kl/215521

SINGAPORE: A Gojek driver who took a video of himself molesting a 16-year-old intoxicated passenger in his backseat got arrested months later when he filed a police report over a traffic accident and a police officer saw the obscene video in his phone.

Daniel Ong Soo Eng, a 60-year-old Singaporean man, was sentenced to 17 months' jail on Monday (Mar 30). Of this, two months was in lieu of four strokes of the cane as he cannot be caned due to his age.

He pleaded guilty to one count of molestation, with another two charges for voyeurism and recording an obscene film taken into consideration.

The court heard that Ong was a private-hire driver with Grab and Gojek from 2019 to April 2022.

He was married and had two adult children at the time of the offence on Feb 26, 2022.

The victim had gone to a party the night before and was very drunk when she left at about 2.40am. She booked a ride on Gojek and Ong was assigned to be her driver.

He picked the victim up and observed that she was intoxicated. The victim fell asleep.

When Ong arrived at the victim's destination, he parked along the road and tried to wake her.

The victim did not stir despite Ong's efforts. He waited for some time but she remained asleep.

He then looked at her and thought that she looked "sexy", the court heard. He decided to take photos of her with his phone so he could engage in sex acts later.

For about 20 minutes from about 3am, Ong began taking photos of the victim, who was slumped in the backseat in a state of partial undress.

He adjusted her clothes and limbs to reveal her private parts and took multiple photos.

Ong then decided that he wanted to touch the victim and stood outside the rear passenger door to do so.

He held up his phone and took a video that lasted almost three minutes, showing himself molesting the girl.

He then returned to the driver's seat and watched YouTube videos until the victim woke up. She paid her taxi fare and left about 10 to 15 minutes later.

At the time, the victim did not know what had happened.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
A few months later on Apr 6, 2022, Ong was involved in a traffic accident in Woodlands.

He took photos of the vehicles involved in the accident and went to a police station to lodge a report.

While doing so, he handed over his phone to the police officer as he wanted to show him some photos of the accident.

The police officer was looking through the media gallery on Ong's phone when he saw some obscene files in the gallery. This included a video showing Ong touching the victim's private parts.

The officer first helped Ong to lodge a report about the accident before inviting him to be interviewed by the police over the obscene files.

Ong was arrested that same day and his handphone was seized.

SENTENCING ARGUMENTS
The prosecution sought 14 to 17 months' jail, along with two to three months' additional jail in lieu of four to six strokes of the cane.

Ong cannot be caned as he is above 50.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Claire Poh said the case involves an "opportunistic assault by a private-hire driver committed against his inebriated passenger" and is "deserving of a stiff sentence".

She said the degree of sexual intrusion was "extremely high" and that Ong had abused the trust placed in him as a transport provider by gratifying his lust on his passenger.

Defence lawyer Prakash Otharam from Ashvin Law asked for 13 months' jail, with no extra imprisonment in lieu of caning.

He said his client "makes no excuses" for the offences and is very remorseful.

"This matter has been hanging over my client's head for the last few years and has already caused a lot of stress," he said.

"He has actually suffered great losses on account of this mistake he has committed. His marriage has fallen apart, as your honour is aware, he has separated from his wife and his daughter. He's lost his job and he's also lost his house."

He asked the court to take his plight into consideration. Earlier, he had tried to seek another adjournment of the case as his client was trying to follow the family court's direction to have his flat transferred to his daughter's name as part of divorce proceedings.

The court declined this for various reasons, including that he had been granted several adjournments before with no foreseeable conclusion in sight.

In sentencing, Principal District Judge Lee Lit Cheng said Ong had "preyed" on his passenger, who was unconscious throughout and did not even know she had been sexually assaulted.

She said Ong would have gotten away "scot-free" had it not been for the "fortuitous" discovery in April.

She said Ong had abused his position as a public transport worker and invaded the victim's privacy to a high degree. The victim was clearly identifiable as Ong had taken a close-up photo of her face.

She said caning of four strokes would have been ordered if not for his age.

The judge allowed Ong to defer his jail term until April to settle his affairs, with his older brother acting as his bailor.

For molestation, he could have been jailed for up to two years and fined. He was not caned because of his age.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/g...er-jail-6025056

Woman sued ex-MINDEF colleague over sexual assault after police dropped case, High Court overturns her win
The High Court found that the woman had not proven the alleged sexual assault and overturned the lower court order for the man to pay her over S$50,000 in damages for battery.
Woman sued ex-MINDEF colleague over sexual assault after police dropped case, High Court overturns her win
A view of Singapore's Supreme Court in the foreground on Jul 1, 2019. (File photo: Reuters/Edgar Su)
Lydia Lam
25 Mar 2026 04:44PM
(Updated: 25 Mar 2026 05:39PM)
SINGAPORE: A woman sued her ex-colleague for battery after the police chose not to take further action against him for alleged sexual assault.
While a district court awarded her damages of more than S$50,000 (US$39,000) for reasons including "pain and suffering", the High Court overturned the judgment on Wednesday (Mar 25).
Justice Chua Lee Ming found instead that the woman, Ms Kang May Teng Maria Olivia, had not proven the alleged sexual assault.
He granted the appeal by the man, Mr Chua Jun Yang, setting aside the district court's orders. The woman has to pay costs to the man.
There was no gag order imposed in this civil suit.

THE CASE
Ms Kang and Mr Chua first met in 2015 when they were colleagues at the Defence Policy Office (DPO) of the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF).
By May 2015, they were in a sexually intimate relationship but neither of them regarded the other as a boyfriend or girlfriend.
To Ms Kang, the relationship was "not at a serious enough stage", while Mr Chua said it was more of a "casual" relationship which included sex whenever Ms Kang was agreeable.
Mr Chua wanted to be open about their relationship but Ms Kang wanted to keep it secret, with this issue being a constant source of tension in their relationship, the court stated.
According to Ms Kang, she ended the relationship around December 2015 because she felt they were incompatible, but they remained friends.
Mr Chua claimed they were still physically intimate after the end of 2015. He said he ended his romantic interest in Ms Kang after he found out from a mutual friend that he was merely someone Ms Kang turned to when she was bored, as he was "very accommodating" in this regard.

THE ALLEGED INCIDENT
The suit arose from an incident that occurred in July 2016 when the pair had drinks at a nightclub with some colleagues.
They went to Ms Kang's place on her invitation for sex.
According to Ms Kang, she showered in the bathroom and "sobered up", regretting inviting Mr Chua over for sex.
She said she told him to go home but Mr Chua refused to leave and became emotional, pleading with her to get back into a romantic relationship with him.
Ms Kang claimed that the conversation was heated and that she told Mr Chua to see himself out. She then claimed that Mr Chua removed his clothes, wrapped his arms around her forcefully and restrained her before sexually assaulting her.
Ms Kang claimed that she shouted at him to get out, which he did.
Mr Chua said he could not recall what exactly happened at Ms Kang's house, but denied doing anything against her consent.
He said it would not be the first time they were sexually intimate or had sexual relations after visiting a club or having alcohol.
The judgment contained many messages exchanged between the pair past 4am on Jul 10, 2016 when the alleged assault occurred.
This included texts from Mr Chua stating "stop stringing me along if this is going nowhere" and "let's avoid situations that we both don't want to be in".
He also sent messages to another mutual friend that morning, saying "Everyone needs to stop saying that I like Maria" and that "it's going nowhere" and "I've been trying since God knows when".

Ms Kang replied to Mr Chua later that day, apologising and saying that she had to change her pillowcase as no one was allowed on her bed unless they were clean. She said Mr Chua's hair was dirty because he was at the club.
Mr Chua apologised and said he could wash it for her.
Ms Kang added: "I think we could have enjoyed each other last night and had fun and I wanted to. But not for the wrong reasons."
After Jul 10, 2016, Ms Kang continued to text Mr Chua and met up with him. This included asking him to go shopping with her, asking him to give her a wake-up call, and asking him to "hang out".
In Mr Chua's evidence, he said Ms Kang had invited him to spend the night at her place and greeted him dressed only in undergarments around September 2016.
Ms Kang admitted that she made "sporadic romantic advances" towards Mr Chua after the alleged incident.
In October 2016, Ms Kang exchanged messages with a mutual friend about Mr Chua, saying she had called him with no answer.
When asked if he was her "go-to person in boredom", Ms Kang said: "He's very accommodating when I'm bored" and added that he always talks to her, but she guessed she would find "someone else".
The person responded that "this is evil" and later told Mr Chua what Ms Kang had said.

MR CHUA FINDS NEW RELATIONSHIP
Mr Chua confronted Ms Kang and they argued about it. Around October 2016, Mr Chua entered into a romantic relationship with another colleague whom he eventually married.
Mr Chua was rotated out of the DPO at MINDEF in December 2016 or January 2017.
On Jan 11, 2017, Ms Kang texted Mr Chua, asking: "Since you only have that one spot for someone you would go out of your way for, is she in that spot already" and "does she already mean the world to you".
Ms Kang heard a rumour that Mr Chua was dating someone. She met him in January 2017 and asked him to consider giving their relationship one last shot, but he rejected her.
Mr Chua told Ms Kang in February 2017 that he was "official now" with his new girlfriend and Ms Kang thanked him for letting her know.

ACCUSATIONS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT
Almost a year later, Ms Kang met her university friends for lunch and told them that she was sexually assaulted by Mr Chua in 2016.
The next day, Ms Kang met her colleague for dinner and told him that Mr Chua had sexually assaulted her but that she felt confused as she did not expect someone like him to have the propensity to commit sexual assault.
In November 2020, Ms Kang wrote letters to her friends telling them in detail about the alleged sexual assault.
She submitted a complaint to the senior management of MINDEF in March 2021. She alleged that, when she was a junior officer, a senior officer had asked her if things would have been different between them if he was not her boss and if he was not married.
She also alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a civilian officer a few years later, and that she was sexually assaulted by another officer in 2020.
Ms Kang asked the senior management of MINDEF to investigate whether there was "a serious problem of sexual harassment and assault" and "impropriety in MINDEF/SAF".
The head of MINDEF's human resource department encouraged Ms Kang to file an official report with the SAF Military Police Command and she did.
The Military Police Command redirected Ms Kang to file a police report as Mr Chua was a civil servant. She did so on Mar 26, 2021, alleging that she was sexually assaulted by her ex-colleague between 2am and 3am on Jul 10, 2016.

Ms Kang resigned from MINDEF at the end of March 2021.
Almost a year later in February 2022, the police informed Ms Kang and Mr Chua that, in consultation with the Attorney-General's Chambers, it had decided not to take further action against Mr Chua.
In July 2022, Ms Kang filed a civil suit claiming damages against Mr Chua for battery in the form of sexual digital penetration.
District Judge Sia Aik Kor found in favour of her and awarded her damages in the sums of S$25,000 for pain and suffering, S$20,000 for punitive damages and S$8,697.39 as special damages.

Mr Chua appealed against this decision.

APPEAL JUDGE'S FINDINGS
Justice Chua found that the district judge had erred in inferring that Mr Chua's apology in a message where he said he had "got out of control again" was about the alleged sexual assault.
Justice Chua found the letters sent by Ms Kang, along with her complaint to MINDEF, her police report and what she told her psychiatrist in 2022 not to be corroborative evidence.
"They have little additional evidential value as they were essentially self-serving and cannot be considered independent evidence," he said.
One of the grounds of the district judge's finding that Ms Kang had proved the tort of battery was her finding that Ms Kang's allegation of the sexual assault was corroborated by the text messages.
Justice Chua disagreed with her finding and said the account of sexual assault was not corroborated.
He found that there was an inconsistency in Ms Kang's account, based on what she said in her affidavit and what she wrote in the letters to her friends.
In the letters and in her oral testimony, she had said she warned Mr Chua not to let his dirty clothes touch her bed, because she saw him walking towards her and anticipated or realised that he was getting onto her bed.
This is "materially different" from what she said in her written affidavit, where she said she was lying on the bed with her back facing Mr Chua, who removed his clothes "in a matter of seconds" and climbed onto the bed.
Justice Chua added that Ms Kang did not confront Mr Chua about the alleged sexual assault.
"There was nothing in (her) conduct towards (him) that suggested that the alleged sexual assault had taken place," said the judge.
Instead, she continued to interact with him.
Ms Kang explained that she continued to be friendly with Mr Chua because she had not understood the full gravity of his actions, blamed herself, could not avoid him and that it was "impossible" to cut ties with him because they worked in the same office and had mutual friends.
While the district judge had found Ms Kang's explanations for her behaviour "not implausible or improbable", Justice Chua disagreed.
He said Ms Kang's explanations "are not credible and should be rejected".
"They sound hollow in the light of the frequency, tone and content of her messages and the nature of her interactions with the appellant," said Justice Chua.
He ordered parties to file submissions on costs within 14 days.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/w...-mindef-6015736
Malaysia among countries targeted by powerful iPhone spyware ‘Darksword’, researchers warn

Researchers said the malware, dubbed ‘Darksword,’ was used in hacking campaigns affecting Malaysia and several other countries. — Reuters pic

Thursday, 19 Mar 2026 10:15 AM MYT

SAN FRANCISCO, March 19 — A powerful software exploit capable of penetrating and stealing information from potentially hundreds of millions of Apple iPhones was planted on dozens of websites in Ukraine in recent weeks, researchers said yesterday.

The discovery marks the second time this month that researchers have found spyware targeting iPhones and other Apple devices. Together, the two hacking tools show that the market for sophisticated malware capable of stealing data and cryptocurrency wallet information is flourishing, researchers said.

Researchers with cyber firm Lookout, mobile security firm iVerify and Alphabet’s Google published coordinated analyses of the malware they dubbed “Darksword.” On March 3, Google and iVerify revealed a separate powerful iPhone spyware called “Coruna.” Researchers found Darksword hosted on the same servers.

“There’s now a verified pipeline of recent exploits ... that have ended up in the hands of potentially criminal entities with a financial focus,” said Justin Albrecht, principal researcher with Lookout.

Google said its researchers observed multiple commercial vendors and suspected state-linked hackers using Darksword in distinct campaigns against targets in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia and Ukraine.

The campaigns in Malaysia and Turkey were associated with Turkish commercial surveillance vendor PARS Defense, Google said. PARS Defense did not respond to a request for comment.

According to iVerify and Lookout, researchers discovered the malware being delivered to iPhone users running iOS versions 18.4 to 18.6.2 who visited one of dozens of Ukrainian websites. Apple released those versions between March and August 2025.

It’s not clear how many iPhones are vulnerable to Darksword attacks, the researchers said. Apple has released multiple fixes for the underlying bugs attackers used to make Darksword. Nevertheless, many people don’t install iPhone updates, and an estimated 220 million to 270 million iPhones still run exposed iOS versions, according to iVerify and Lookout, which based the figures on public estimates. Google did not share its findings ahead of yesterday’s report.

An Apple spokesman said the exploits targeted “out-of-date software,” and that the underlying vulnerabilities have been addressed across multiple updates over the last several years for users running the latest versions of their devices’ operating systems.

“Keeping software up to date remains the single most important thing users can do to maintain the high security of their Apple devices,” the spokesperson said.

Additionally, all malicious domains identified by Google are blocked by Apple Safe Browsing in the Safari web browser to prevent further exploitation, the spokesperson said.

The discovery of two distinct powerful iOS exploits this month suggests a robust ecosystem for tools that were previously limited primarily to state-level intelligence operations, said Rocky Cole, co-founder and COO of iVerify.

Researchers said they discovered the vulnerabilities because of sloppy security mistakes not common in state-linked iPhone hacking.

“The fact that they don’t care if it gets burned, and that they’re using them in mass attacks with poor (operational security), that says a lot about how much they value these tools,” Cole said. “They’re not overly precious about them being exposed.”

Darksword was found on the internet servers that suspected Russian operators of Coruna used, researchers with iVerify and Lookout said in findings and interviews ahead of yesterday’s release. — Reuters

https://www.malaymail.com/news/tech-gadgets...ers-warn/213165

Can Man & Woman become real friends ?

SINGAPORE: A married man sexually assaulted his long-time female friend after a night of drinks at his place, despite her protests and struggling.

Tan Boon Seng, a 40-year-old Singaporean, was sentenced on Monday (Mar 16) to eight years' jail and 10 strokes of the cane.

He pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual assault and aggravated outrage of modesty, with three other charges including attempted rape taken into consideration.

Tan had been friends with the victim since around 2010 or 2011. They were acquainted through mutual friends and used to be neighbours.

In June 2024, the victim was 30 when she asked Tan if he wanted to meet.

They met at Punggol MRT station on Jun 29, 2024. They bought four bottles of soju and went to Tan's flat in Punggol, which was being renovated while he stayed elsewhere.

When the pair got to the flat, they went into one of the bedrooms and sat down on a blanket that was on the floor. They had dinner and four bottles of soju.

Sometime past midnight, the pair left the flat to buy six more bottles of soju from a nearby shop. They went back and drank the soju, during which the victim asked if she could stay over since she did not want to take a private-hire car home.

Tan agreed. At about 3am on Jun 30, 2024, the victim felt sleepy and lay down on a blanket. Tan lay next to her and tried to hug her, but the woman pushed his arm away at least twice and told him to move further away.

Tan did as he was told. However, the victim had difficulty falling asleep due to Tan's loud snoring.

After about 20 minutes, the victim woke Tan up and they continued drinking soju.

At about 5am, the victim prepared to leave the flat to catch the first public bus. She carried two bags on her shoulders.

THE ASSAULT
However, as she was leaving the bedroom, Tan turned her around and caused her bags to fall.

He kissed her while the woman resisted. She struggled and tried to run away, but Tan stopped her and they both fell onto the blanket.

Tan was on top of the victim and pinned her down with force before molesting her. The victim continued to struggle as Tan manoeuvred himself to sexually assault her.

The woman repeatedly exclaimed "no", "stop it" and "get off me" while Tan continued his assault. She was unable to push him off because of his strength.

Tan then trapped the woman's legs with his arms and sexually assaulted her. The woman tried to get away, but felt her energy being depleted due to sleep deprivation and her struggle against Tan.

After this, the victim grabbed her clothes and went into a toilet where she washed herself. Tan booked a private-hire vehicle for her and waited with her until it arrived.

The victim lodged a police report several days later saying she had been sexually assaulted.

She found herself unable to be alone and could not function in her daily activities. She had occasional panic attacks and insomnia and was paranoid even when she was alone, looking around and fearing that Tan would be near her.

She also felt that, no matter how much she tried to shower, she would not be clean, the court heard.

She was examined at hospital and found to have injuries which included bruises on her knee, arm and shoulder.

Tan was arrested and charged in court.

The prosecution sought eight to eight-and-a-half years' jail for Tan, along with 14 strokes of the cane.

They said Tan had used force in the offences, causing the victim to sustain injuries across her body. It was also traumatic for her, such that she had breakdowns and crying episodes. The incident continues to plague her mind despite counselling, said the prosecutors.

Tan had also taken advantage of his friendship with the victim and the trust they shared, in violating her after she had stayed at his house and even after she had unequivocally rejected his sexual advances, said the prosecutors.

The victim had said in her victim impact statement that she suffered from feelings of self-blame, as she thought she had been too trusting towards her friend. She also felt disappointed and despair that Tan had committed such acts against her and breached her trust, considering their long-standing friendship.

For aggravated outrage of modesty, Tan could have been jailed for between two and 10 years and caned. For sexual assault, he could have been jailed for up to 20 years and fined or caned.

Source: CNA/ll

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/m...nd-jail-5996216

AirAsia only give warning to thieves

Today, 11 March @flyairasia KUL SAW, I caught a Chinese mainland passenger red-handed took the sling bags from the Premium Flex cabin on flight. He was seated in Economy but kept coming to the Premium cabin to check if passengers were already asleep.

His modus operandi was to take a random bag and bring it to his seat. If someone noticed him, he would immediately put the cash or items back into the bag. Because he returned the items, AirAsia could not charge him with theft.

The pilot only gave him a stern warning. However, this kind of incident happens quite often on AirAsia flights.

When I saw him taking the bag, I immediately informed the flight attendant on duty. They tried to locate the bag first, but the cabin was dark, so it was difficult to see clearly.

After about 10 minutes, the person returned the bag to the overhead compartment, and I managed to stop him. I asked him, “Is this your belonging?” and he immediately put the envelope back into the bag.

https://www.threads.com/@asyahsin/post/DVyF...qMniaR7n&slof=1
