1. Lim Guan Eng’s alleged abuse of power

Who: Lim Guan Eng, now DAP‘s Bagan MP, then Chief Minister of Penang

Charges:

Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 (using position for gratification)
Section 165 of the Penal Code (public servant getting valuable stuff from a business transaction)
Background:

While chairing a State Planning Committee meeting in July 2014, Lim had allegedly abused his position as Chief Minister for his own (and wife’s) gain by allowing some land on southwest Penang to change from agricultural land to a housing zone, for a company called Magnificent Emblem Sdn Bhd. This is the first charge.

Then, in October 2015, Lim allegedly used his position again to buy a plot of land and a bungalow in George Town from Phang Li Koon, the owner of Magnificent Emblem, at a price of RM2.8 million, which is below the market value of RM4.27 million. This is the second charge.

In March 2016, the transaction was brought up during a Dewan Rakyat sitting. This led to a series of investigations on Lim and Phang, and by the end of June, they were arrested and charged for corruption.

The drop:

In September 2018, to the shock of many people, Lim had the charges against him withdrawn, and he was acquitted as well despite his trial not being completed. Although the decision-making process was not made public, a source told New Straits Times that the charges were dropped because they can’t prove that Lim knew the house was sold below market value.

“In this case (Lim’s), the seller asked for RM2.8 million and that was all there was to it. And she made RM300,000 from the sale,” – a source interviewed by the New Straits Times.

Regardless of that, the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4), for one, had expressed ‘extreme surprise’ over it, saying that it raises questions about the independence of government institutions from political influence.

KUALA LUMPUR (March 2): In the weeks before his shock resignation as prime minister threw Malaysia into turmoil, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was getting agitated.

His then-ruling alliance had suffered a series of by-election losses, stunting its momentum after a historic election win in 2018 against a government in power for six decades. One conflict centered around highway tolls. In January, Dr Mahathir agreed to let the conglomerate Maju Group take over highways operator PLUS Malaysia Bhd, which is controlled by the finance ministry, according to people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified. Under the deal, valued at about RM30 billion, Maju Group would’ve scrapped toll fees in return for government contracts to maintain the roads, the people said.

But his coalition partners disagreed: The largest, the Democratic Action Party or DAP, was strongly opposed to the deal, according to a person familiar with the discussions. In the end, the administration rejected all bids for PLUS and restructured concessions to reduce highway fares instead of eliminating them.

The failed deal highlighted a series of policy disputes that eventually brought down the coalition, showing that the differences in Dr Mahathir’s government extended far beyond when he would cede power to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his long-time rival. New Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is backed by parties that lost in 2018, shifting Malaysia back to an agenda favoring the Malay majority.

hi all

i have question here...how to check whether the owner of the car have loan's insurance policy??i mean, when the owner died, the heir will not be enforce to pay the loan...is it stated in the agreement??

my case here, my father died last 2 year and he has car loan, but right now I'm continuing pay the car loan without knowing the detail.....however a fren of mine ask me to check whether my father have taken the loan insurance or not before......so i need to know how to check it coz i;m afraid the bank will not tell the truth

if my father do take the insurance, it mean i didnt need to pay the loan is it??can i reclaim back all the payment that i have made before??

how to convert dynamic ip from shared ip

hi all,

i looking for a software that can create dynamic ip from shared ip....

rite now i'm using celcom broadband, and as we all know that celcom gives all their customer a shared ip.....so the problem arise when i want to download from site like rapidshare, 4shared etc, they will always come out a message such as "your ip are downloading a file, plz wait...bla bla" although i not downloading anything yet.

as an alternative i tried to use web proxy such as youhide, hidemyip etc, but it just too slow. sometimes it cannot open at all the download link

so rite now, i'm looking for other alternatives........plz help me

i need some help regrading car trade-in

i have 2002 1.3 wira aeroback with 13k loan.......but i'm considering to trade it with 92-95 2nd honda civic (coz my budget is limited)......coz i'm thinking to upgrade/downgrade to a bigger engine capacity car as my wira is very underpower car. i'm not a perfomance seeker type driver/racer....just looking for a better family car

i have surveyed in motortrader mag...the cost for 2nd hand honda civic btween yr 92-96 is around 20k-35k......so i have few question b4 i can make decision whether to change or not.

1) is it worth to trade my 2002 wira to older civic??
2) how much the maintenance of VTEC engine??is it a fuel guzzler??
3) what it current market price for my 1.3 wira??
