One of my friends, who was returning home to London via Doha had his flight turned back after 3 hours of flying!
And the airline redirected his flight through Singapore by another airline to avoid the mid east.

How many of you are affected by this war?

This is Malaysia’s greatest moral failure — we punish what’s visible, and excuse what’s vile.

2. The Tiong “Beer-Gate” Spectacle
Tourism Minister Tiong King Sing, a Sarawakian Christian, attended a privately funded tourism gala that generated RM420 million for Malaysia’s economy.
It wasn’t a government event. No taxpayers’ money, no forced participation, no pork, and no disrespect.
Yet, a few beer glasses spotted on tables became “an insult to Islam,” triggering full-blown outrage from UMNO-PAS leaders.

Mas Ermieyati screamed “disrespect to Islam!”
UMNO Youth chief Dr. Akmal Saleh demanded Tiong’s sacking.
PAS leaders called it a betrayal of faith.
Even Khairy Jamaluddin joined the noise, screenshot in hand.
And just like that, a private-sector dinner turned into a political war.

3. The Hypocrisy Gets Deeper — Akmal’s Double Standards
Then Akmal took it further — questioning Malaysia’s ties with the United States and President trumps visit or past president.
He accused the government of “betraying Islam” for welcoming America.

But where was this moral thunder when past UMNO prime ministers shook hands with U.S. presidents, praised Trump’s “leadership,” and even sat beside Israel’s prime minister at UN events?
Where was the outrage when Najib proudly called Trump “my friend”?
Where was PAS’s sermon then?

So what changed? Nothing — except who’s in power.
This isn’t faith. It’s selective outrage dressed as piety.
Morality by convenience, not conviction.

4. The Fascist Playbook in Motion
It’s not about religion — it’s about control.
It’s classic Goebbels: repeat a lie until it sticks, inflame emotions, and make the majority feel threatened.
Minorities become scapegoats, and unity becomes a slogan without substance.

Today it’s beer.
Tomorrow it’s your culture, your song, your name.

5. Symbolism Over Substance
As Zaid Ibrahim rightly said, alcohol in Malaysia isn’t about sin — it’s about symbolism.
Condemning a beer costs nothing.
Condemning corruption costs careers.
And so, politicians trade real morality for performative piety.

> “We may be corrupt, but we are still holy.”

6. The Real Moral Collapse
Let’s face it:
Malaysia has become a place where —
* Rape is not a priority.
* Bribery is not a priority.
* Justice is not a priority.

What's happening to Zara's case?

But a glass of beer? National crisis.

So what are we now — champions of stupidity?
Have we become so fragile that a drink at a tourism dinner threatens our faith more than thieves in Parliament or predators in classrooms?

7. The Economic Hypocrisy
Here's the joke:
The same government & people condemning alcohol PAS, UMNO Nmany minister benefited from it so thr profits from it — RM2 billion yearly in alcohol taxes, plus another RM6 billion from other “sin” sectors.
They drink the tax revenue while preaching purity.
Hypocrisy has never been this profitable.

8. The Real Test of Faith
Faith was never about shouting louder than your neighbour.
It’s about honesty, empathy, and justice — the values Prophet Muhammad himself upheld.
If Malaysians were as outraged about corruption and rape as they are about a beer, this country would already be righteous.

9. The Wake-Up Call
This “Beer-Gate” isn’t about religion — it’s about manipulation.
Until we move from symbolic piety to ethical integrity, Malaysia will remain stuck in moral kindergarten.

So, Malaysia — are we proud of being loud, or ready to be wise?
Because right now,
we’re acting like the Champions of Stupidity.

Aerotrain breaks down again?

It seems that the RM456 million upgrade to KLIA’s aerotrain may be for naught as it was reported to have broken down for the second time, leaving many passengers stranded.
This comes after a netizen posted a photo of frustrated passengers heading towards one of the airports exits after the aerotrain was unable to transport them between KLIA Terminal 1’s Main Terminal and Satellite Building.

ETALING JAYA: Economy minister Rafizi Ramli’s recent comments on the interpretation of federal and state boundaries in drafting the framework for the carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) industry have alarmed Sarawakians, says a state lawmaker.

In a statement issued today, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) deputy secretary-general Lo Khere Chiang said Malaysia’s unity hinged on respect and adherence to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

The Borneo Post quoted him as saying: “Any attempt to undermine or reinterpret the boundaries established by MA63 is not just a political misstep — it’s a direct threat to the very fabric of our nation.

“MA63 is not a mere formality; it is the foundational agreement that brought Malaysia into existence.
“For the minister to issue a statement casting doubt on Sarawak’s established boundaries and suggesting (there were) ongoing disputes with federal authorities is nothing short of a betrayal of that sacred pact.”

According to Lo, who is Batu Kitang assemblyman, Sarawak’s borders and continental shelf were defined under The Sarawak (Alteration of Boundaries) Order 1954. He said Putrajaya’s attempts to reinterpret these borders threaten the MA63 agreement.

Lo added that the Sarawak government had previously said all carbon storage projects within state boundaries must be regulated by state laws.

“We call on the economy minister to heed this warning — respect MA63 or face the very real possibility of eroding whatever is left of the unity of Malaysia.”

In a statement on Aug 7, Rafizi said the definition of the boundaries had been outlined in the Continental Shelf Act 1966, Exclusive Economic Zone Act 1984 and Territorial Sea Act 2012.

Rafizi also said the ministry took note of issues raised by Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg on the differences in interpretation of state boundaries by the state government and Putrajaya.

Abang Johari had raised the issue at the National Energy Council on Aug 2, Rafizi said.

He added that Abang Johari had emphasised that any business in Sarawak, especially involving trade, must respect the rights of Sarawak.

“While the MA63 platform’s discussion on the differing interpretations of boundaries between the federal government and the Sarawak government is ongoing, the economy ministry will keep abreast of its progress to ensure that the CCUS legislation reflects the understanding reached,” Rafizi had said, referring to MA63.

Prominent lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan has again come out strongly to condemn the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, accusing those she described as "friends" in the coalition of failing to stand up against the continued suppression of freedom of expression and the series of U-turns on promised democratic reforms.

Ambiga, the former chairman of Bersih, which held large PH-backed rallies against the previous Barisan Nasional government, reminded PH of its election promises to defend freedom of expression and abolish draconian laws such as the Sedition Act and the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA).

"A lot of them are my friends. They criticise me and I have no problem with that because I believe in freedom of speech. They are good people.
"What's gone wrong? Has the cat got your tongue?" she said in response to a question about the silence of DAP and Amanah leaders during a recent episode of a podcast hosted by former minister Zaid Ibrahim.

Ambiga said that the government's crackdown on free speech and online criticism was an insult to the people's intelligence.

"What is wrong with you? That is really quite horrifying for me," she added.

Her remarks followed an earlier statement in which she condemned the government's latest plan to control internet content by licencing social media platforms.

Ambiga had described Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration as "the most dictatorial government we have ever had".

"I never thought I would see the day when a PH-led government which ran on the platform of fighting for the abolishment of the PPPA would instead keep it and impose new licensing laws," she said.

Putrajaya recently announced that it would shut down social media platforms that had yet to apply for a licence before Jan 1, 2025.

The government will also introduce a social media "kill switch" that will allow it to shut down access to platforms, similar to how governments in China, Egypt, Iran and India have shut down internet connections in the past to stop opposition views.

Critics said the move was designed to force popular internet platforms such as Facebook and TikTok, and even messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram, to comply with government demands and delete content or risk losing their licence.

Sabah's 40% revenue rights: SLS to get its day in court after AG's appeal dismissed

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Law Society (SLS) has been granted the right to proceed with a judicial review of the state’s constitutional right to receive 40% of its special grant revenue.

On Tuesday (June 18), the Court of Appeal dismissed the Federal Attorney General’s appeal against a High Court decision to grant SLS leave to challenge grant provisions.

In dismissing the appeal via online proceedings, a three-member panel decided that SLS has locus standi for the review.

Justice Datuk Ravinthran Paramuguru said the two main issues raised by the Senior Federal Counsel (SFC), namely locus standi and justiciability, lacked merit given the factual and legal matrix of the unprecedented application for judicial review.

“We unanimously dismiss the appeal. If this matter is not taken up further by the appellant, we direct the High Court to fix a date for the full hearing of the judicial review application,” he said.

He also gave no order as to costs seeing that this is a public interest case.

Before delivering the decision, Justice Ravinthran said SLS had, at the very least, established threshold locus standi.

He said the judicial review application was clearly taken in the public interest, for the benefit of a section of the people, and not to seek redress for a personal wrong or grievance.

He said the issue to be addressed in the judicial review application also involved a matter of high constitutional importance.

“It is taken to purportedly vindicate a constitutional right accorded to the state of Sabah and therefore by extension, for the benefit of the people of Sabah,” said Justice Ravinthran.

He said whether or not there is merit in the application was a matter to be addressed in the full hearing.

On the aspect of justiciability, he said courts have expressed the view that if a matter is not justiciable, leave to commence judicial review may be refused.

He said the learned SFC submitted that the judicial review application was not justiciable for several reasons, including that the review under Article 112D(2) of the Federal Constitution has to take into account the ability of the Federal Government and the needs of the Sabah government.

The SFC had said these involved policy matters that the court was not equipped to deal with, that the review was only between the Federal and state governments, and that the Special Grant given in Review Order 2022 was made by way of offer and acceptance.

Counsel for SLS argued that the issues to be determined were legal matters that did not require policy considerations, nor did they involve broad discretion that the court was ill-equipped to handle.

Furthermore, it was argued that SLS was not challenging the Special Grant given in the Review order 1970 or 2022 but merely urging the court to rule on the omission of so-called "lost years" that are a matter of constitutional interpretation.

“In our view, at this stage, it cannot be said that the subject matter of the judicial review application is not justiciable,” said Justice Ravinthran.

“For the above reasons, we are not persuaded that the matter is prima facie not justiciable,” he said.

Lawyers kena locked up by MACC

Rights group Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) has condemned the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for detaining two lawyers acting for their clients in a property dispute.

LFL director Zaid Malek said the commission had no right to interfere in the work of lawyers representing their clients.

He said MACC also has no right to request documents relating to the case or ask them to provide details about the progress of the case.

Lawyers Lai Chee How and Irwin Lo were detained at the MACC lock-up in Putrajaya from June 4 to 6.

"Why is MACC intimidating lawyers performing their professional duty?" Zaid said at a press conference attended by the duo.

Lai said he was visited by several MACC officials at his office on the evening of June 4, and asked for the letter of appointment to represent his client in a case involving a property dispute.
He was then asked to appear at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, but was arrested that night before being released two days later.

Zaid called on MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki to take responsibility for the incident and said he was responsible for the behaviour of his officers.

"We want an explanation.

"Why would they be called unlawfully and required to disclose the documents unlawfully?"

PETALING JAYA (June 11): Human rights NGO Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) has condemned the actions of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in detaining a lawyer and questioning another for representing a client in court.

Lawyer Lai Chee Hoe, who was speaking at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, said the MACC had raided his office on June 4 to investigate his firm, which acted as lawyers in a strata management dispute for one of the parties in court.

Lai said he was questioned at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, and was later detained there. He was made to wear the infamous MACC orange uniform for detainees.

According to Lai, the MACC was investigating the party he is representing in court.

Meanwhile, another lawyer Irwin Lo claimed that he was also questioned by the commission because he represented the same client. However, he was not detained and was told to bring in documents pertinent to the case.

LFL director Zaid Malek said this was a clear threat against Lai and was tantamount to harassment against the lawyers.

“MACC has no power to ask lawyers to come in and investigate lawyers and demand documents for cases they are conducting,” he told the media. Zaid stressed that all legal recourse would be considered, and he is hoping that MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki would come up with a statement to clear the air.

When contacted after the press conference, MACC’s chieftain Tan Sri Azam Baki, however, disclosed that Lai is being investigated for embezzlement and abuse of power for his role as the former chairman of the joint management committee, while Irwin was sought to help with investigations.

“Lai acted as legal adviser and is the former chairman of the joint management body (of the property in question); he, together with several committee members, were suspected of abusing their power to embezzle funds in the management and maintenance account,” Azam told The Edge.

“There is no issue of interference with the right of public legal representation,” Azam commented.

He said that Lai is the main suspect in the case, and he was remanded to be investigated for his role in the case.

“The focus of the investigation team was on the issue of abuse of power and embezzlement carried out by Lai, and not to get information on his client,” Azam said.

MACC, in a separate statement later, also said Section 31 of the MACC Act, which stipulates the commission's power of search and seizure, gives it the right to enter any premises to search, confiscate and retrieve any books, documents, account records, or data, and to search or detain any person encountered in such premises to facilitate its investigations.

It also said it will not bow to pressure or accusations in the course of their investigations.

Lai, meanwhile, did not deny that he is the former chair of the joint management body.

At the press conference, Lai claimed that the MACC had gone to a magistrate to seek a remand extension until June 8, but his lawyer Amer Hamzah intervened and wrote a letter to the magistrate, who then allowed Lai to be released on June 6, subject to RM20,000 in bail, with the condition that he has to report to the MACC’s headquarters periodically.

He also claimed that the MACC released him on three conditions.

“The MACC officers told me: do not give a press conference, do not join the management body meetings, and withdraw yourself from the case as a lawyer,” he said at the press conference.

Azam, however, refuted that his officers had given the aforementioned three terms.

ETALING JAYA: A former minister has taken a swipe at those worried that the number of successful non-Malay businessmen outnumbers that of their Malay counterparts. He said such comparisons were not based on reality.

Salleh Said Keruak contended that although Malaysia has a small number of wealthy Malay businessmen, in reality, there was a larger number of very wealthy Malay politicians.

The fact there were a larger number of very rich Malay politicians “balances out the situation” and allays concerns about the greater number of rich non-Malays, he said.

He told FMT: “It is a known fact that wealthy Malay politicians prefer to have non Malay businessmen as their proxies.”

Salleh, a former federal minister and former Sabah chief minister, had been asked to comment on the Bumiputera economic congress, where he noticed some Malay quarters expressing such concerns.
Salleh also noted that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had expressed hope that the Bumiputera community could improve their social-economic status to stand on a better foundation in facing the challenges and opportunities in the future.

Economy minister Rafizi Ramli has said Malaysia must redirect its focus from domestic rivalry between Bumiputeras and non-Bumiputeras to competing together on a global scale.

Salleh said: “But as Elon Musk puts it, we need to understand and break down the problem into its fundamental principles before creating solutions.”
