Thailand cracks down after ‘fallen durian’ claim hits Chinese market

The case followed a Facebook post showing a complaint from a durian trader in Guangzhou, who reportedly bought 60 crates of durians, with six fruits in each crate, at 790 yuan per crate, or about 237,000 baht in total.

According to the complaint, the durians were substandard, with bruised thorns and brown impact marks on the flesh. The damage was described as resembling that of “fallen durians”, or fruit that had dropped from trees before being collected for sale.

The shipment was identified as having been exported on April 26, 2026, from a packing house in Tha Mai district of Chanthaburi province.

Kementerian Pelaburan, Perdagangan dan Industri ditanya tentang harga kereta buatan Malaysia, yang dilihat terlalu mahal

Katanya, kerajaan melalui Kementerian Kewangan menyediakan pelbagai insentif dan pengecualian cukai kepada kenderaan yang dipasang di Malaysia termasuk kepada syarikat pengeluar kenderaan nasional.

“Antara tujuan insentif diberikan kepada pengeluar ialah bagi menggalakkan penggunaan komponen keluaran vendor tempatan, membuat pelaburan berkualiti serta menjalankan aktiviti penyelidikan dan pembangunan (R&D) di Malaysia

Dalam pada itu, Miti berkata pengeluar kenderaan seperti Perodua ada mengeluarkan kenderaan kategori Rahmah yang dijual dengan harga mampu milik (RM22,000 tanpa insurans) bagi membolehkan lebih ramai rakyat memiliki kenderaan.

Katanya, Proton juga mempunyai model Saga yang berharga kurang daripada RM40,000.

“Kerajaan berharap dengan kaedah ini, rakyat boleh memilih kenderaan yang sesuai dengan kemampuan masing-masing bagi mengelak bebanan kewangan yang tinggi kepada mereka,” katanya.

It recommended major reforms such as better road infrastructure, stricter licensing controls, and real-time vehicle monitoring to prevent similar incidents.

China gov to limit EV CKD overseas

China wants to limit tech transfer to overseas CKD sites, sets guidelines for Europe, India, and Turkey

According to a report by Bloomberg, China has instructed its carmakers like BYD and Chery, to export only knock-down kits (essentially semi-assembled cars) to their overseas plants (as opposed to manufacturing key components of the car there), ensuring that the more advanced BEV tech stays at home.

This directive arrives as Chinese BEVs gain traction in markets from Spain to Thailand, and even Hungary.

However, China’s Ministry of Commerce has laid down strict guidelines, cautioning carmakers against making any auto-related investments in India. The ministry also wants carmakers to alert the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as well as the Chinese embassy, before committing to any projects in Turkey.

The message is clear: China wants to keep its BEV know-how closely guarded, as it navigates the complexities of global trade and regulatory landscapes.

Not much else is known about the new X70 MC2, but spyshots of prototypes undergoing on-road evaluation suggest that there will be a new front-end design.

A new infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is rumoured, but not confirmed.

What is certain however is that the 1.8-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine will be no more. Proton has stopped producing 1.8-litre variants of the X70 since October 2023.

Since October 2023, the Chery Omoda 5 has overtaken Proton X70 on the sales chart, but the recent rear axle debacle has brought down the Omoda 5 to tie with the X70, at 513 units in May 2024.

Both models still trail behind the Toyota Corolla Cross (1,080 units in May 2024) by a wide margin, according to data published by JPJ
