Cannot brain why it has to be with us or against?

Really cannot understand why it has to be a with or against us stand. There are people who do not possess the mental capacity to deal with things outside their day to day. Like a person who just lost his job with a family to feed. Or like a person in the hospital who has their own health to worry about or a family members health to worry about. Or someone who is a leafy struggling to make ends meet? These people cannot even settle their own problems, you wanna make noise about these people not thinking about some human being thousands of km away?

Laptop choice for premium compact

So I am currently using a 13" MBP 2018 as my daily driver.

I am looking to upgrade and I am also welcome to Windows based laptop. I find switching between both not that big of a deal as I am mostly working on office suite type of software and most software that i use have MacOS and Windows versions.

I started with the new M4 14"MBP and I think the specs and price are around what i need. The weird thing is when I spec another machine up to similar specs with the MBP including stuff like screen resolution, RAM and storage, they end up being more expensive. Like at least 500 to 1k more. Only thing comparable is a ASUS ZenBook S14

Machines I have been comparing so far are

Dell XPS 14
Lenovo X1 Carbon 12th Gen
ASUS ZenBook S14

Any other suggestions so far?

Asking for comment on layout

Hi guys,

I am gonna try my first custom loop for my upcoming build. After CNY got a bit of spare cash to play. I intend to water cool a 7800X3D and this is my first attempt so be kind please:)

The loop I plan looks like what I attached. This is basically similar to a loop in a car as I want to have a drain point at the T junction.

The reservoir I intend to mount at the top of the casing where the top radiator supposed to be. I will 3D print one just for the heck of it. The radiator I intend to mount at the side and it is a cross flow type. I was hoping a layout like this, all the bubbles will always go to the reservoir and the pump is always at the bottom of the loop.

Hoping for feedback. Thanks

Some advice on system setup and cooling

Hi guys,

I used to build PCs and OC them etc but last time I did that was in the mid 2000s. Think AMD Barton/Throughbred time. Anyway, recently at work needed a much more powerful workstation for crunching large amounts of data and the gaming laptops we had in the office were simply not cutting any more. So I thought I could just wing it and put together a system to do the data crunching. A rough outline of the build is

CPU : 7950X
MB : ASROCK X670E PRO
GPU : ASUS RTX4070Ti
SSD 1 : ACER Predator 1TB PCIE4
SSD 2 : ACER Predator 2TB PCIE4
Casing : NZXT H9 Flow
RAM : KINGSTON Fury Beast RGB 64GB (32x2) x 2
PSU : ASUS 1200W
CPU Cooler : NZXT Kraken 360 RGB Black

The PC works out of the box and I am aware of the fundamental behaviour of the newer CPUs where they push power and clock speeds till hit max temp then throttle back but there are a few things that I am unsatisfied about. Hoping to get some pointers here

1) Its not the temperature of the CPU that bothers me, in fact I am expecting it to hit the 90+ deg C level but its how fast it reaches it. I tied the cooler fans and pump speed to the CPU temp so basically once its more than 60 deg C, the fans and pump are running at full tilt. Coolant temp never exceeds 32 deg C but the CPU reaches 90 in a very short time (like not more than 10 seconds). This happens only when I am crunching data. Could it be due to insufficient pressure between the pump and IHS? Or insufficient thermal paste? I just left whatever the came with the cooler on it and just used it.

2) I tried using the Ryzen master to try to come up with a profile. It came up with a -40 profile but once applied, the system would never boot up. So far I used a less aggressive number like -10 and its stable so far. I find that the temps still rocket to 90+ but just not so fast and it can hold all the cores at about 5.450 GHz about 50% longer. is there a detailed guide on how the voltages and clocks relate to each other. Its so confusing relative to 20 years before where it was just FSB x multiplier

3) I have all the RAM running but I can never get it past 4000 MT/s. I know I made the mistake of not making sure the RAM was AMD expo certified. Is it possible to manually push the 4 sticks to at least 5200 speeds?

Just hoping for tips for troubleshooting and if possible any guides for modern system overclocking/tuning. I prefer PDFs to YT videos (old school mah)

Hi guys, got into a heated debate with the wife cos of this. Decided to buy a clothes drier for my apartment. I was thinking of buying separate front loading washer and drier in case if either one got problem the other still working and cheaper to replace either. She said this is space consuming and better to buy 2 in 1.

What's your opinion?

Setting up a NAS on Ubuntu

Hi,

First of all, I am more of a user than a network guy or IT guy. i can get around scripts and some basic coding but my skill set is electronics and embedded so please bear with me if I seem blur. I need some advice regarding setting up a NAS out of an old PC I have lying in the office.

I have an old C2D E7400 PC with 8gb of RAM, Gigabit NIC, SATA SSD for OS and a few 4TB hdds for storage. My plan is to turn it into a NAS styled PC as it is easier to scale later by adding PCI express SATA cards or adding NIC. I installed Ubuntu Desktop and so far it runs well. I also set up the Hdds in software RAID 0 using mdadm. I intend to set up several folders to be shared to Windows PCs as holding area for data before they process.

1) I know it is old, but today I used Samba to share a folder and just pump data into the drive via a gigabit switch. The CPU was running at about 50% to 70% load maximum and the HDD lights only blinked once in a while. The RAM was never used more than 50%. The transfer rate was only between 300Mb/s and 500Mb/s. I expected more. Is there a bottleneck somewhere I am not seeing?

2) a friend suggested I try using NFS instead of Samba. Would that help?

3) The switch is just a cheapo Dlink Router+Switch that came with Unifi. Would it affect it as well?

Any tools to recommend to trace the bottleneck?

Thanks. Didn't know to put in Linux or Networking thread.

Adding second WiFi connection to tablet

Hi guys, need some help.

I have a 3 items I would like to connect together.

1) Is a Fifish V6 which connects to my tablet via WiFi to see what's underwater

2) a crystalmax tablet to run the app for the fifish but I also want to cast the screen so that when doing demo, no need people looking over my shoulder

3) a realme android TV to show the video

If I use screen cast, because of the WiFi, I cannot connect to both the fifish and the TV at the same time. Was wondering if I could add a WiFi dongle to my tablet so that one WiFi connects to the fifish, the other to the TV to cast video

Any ideas?
