After administering the board for 10 years, I find that I'm no longer able to give it the same level of commitment that I used to.

New feature to freshen your garage sales threads

I just added a feature to prompt you about your garage sales threads if you haven't bumped it in the past 7 days. Clicking "yes" bumps your thread, and "no" will close it.

The main reason behind this feature is to ensure that threads in our garage sales aren't outdated. Eventually I will code a feature to auto-close garage sales threads that haven't been bumped for a month.

For threads closed for more than a month, I originally planned to auto-delete them, but after hearing your feedback I think we can keep them around and exclude them from search results instead. These threads can be moved to a garage sales read-only archive.

guys, I have some free time tonight and feel like adding some features to the forum.

i would like to make it possible for thread starters in /k to moderate their own threads. so in addition to opening/closing their threads, they will be able to delete posts, see reports, and maybe block certain posters from posting.

with this extra autonomy I'm hoping that the community can look after itself even if the mod team is relaxing on a beach somewhere

please let me know what you think.

Update (2015-01-16) - This feature is now enabled for all accounts, in the Kopitiam, Serious Kopitiam, and Football Lounge forums. An example of the feature in use is at https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3459732

For now I have left a few obvious holes open so that you can still see the original post, for example through "find posts" or "search" feature.

NOTICE: Fake accounts promoting Volkswagen

It has been brought to my notice that in the past year, a large number of accounts have been created with the sole intention to manipulate conversations around Volkswagen (and some other non auto-related brands). I do not know if they are commissioned by VW, or whether they just really really love VW.

If you notice any new accounts with such activity, please report their posts so that we can take further action. Thanks.
