Father, two sons charged with sexually assaulting underage daughters

KOTA BARU: A father and his two sons were charged in the Sessions Court today with sexually assaulting his two daughters.

The three men, aged 65, 33, and 24, were charged separately and all pleaded not guilty to the charges read before Judge Zulkifli Abllah.

The 65-year-old father faces two charges, while his two sons each face one charge.

According to the charges, the father is accused of committing physical sexual assault against his two daughters, aged 12 and 16, in the living room of a house in Pasir Puteh between 2pm and 3pm in July.

His two sons are accused of committing sexual assault against their sister, now 16 years old, in the living room of a house in Pasir Puteh in the middle of last year and on Sept 19 between 12.15am and 12.30am.

All three accused were charged under Section 14 of Act 792, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and caning.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan prosecuted while the accused were represented by Nik Mohamad Naqib Mohamad Noor.

Siti Hajar did not offer bail, as the case is unbailable.

The court set Nov 6 for the next mention of the case.

Bagaimanapun, menurut Timbalan Menteri Besar, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, tiada tempat simpanan air yang sesuai sehinggakan sumber air yang ada di bumi negeri itu tidak dapat dimanfaatkan.

"Kita di Kelantan, air ini melebihi keperluan. Dalam tanah, dalam sungai, air hujan semua tu melebihi, cuma kita tak boleh nak simpan, tak ada tempat nak simpan.

"Air bawah tanah kita banyak, lebih daripada keperluan, tapi tak cukup loji. "Bila buat loji paip pula pecah, jadi kita guna air bawah tanah lebih senang daripada guna air sungai. Masalah air sungai ni berkeladak. "Air bawah tanah kita pula banyak kandungan besi, dan ini diakui oleh jurutera, sebab itu air nampak keruh. "Bukan air kotor, tapi air bersih dan selamat untuk diminum. Bila masuk klorin, dia bertindak balas menyebabkannya menjadi keruh, ini yang terpaksa kita hadapi.

"Kalau kita buat tab (kolam takungan), kita boleh simpan air dan dari kolam atau tab dan kita boleh salur ke kawasan yang perlu," katanya kepada pemberita di pejabatnya semalam.
Mohd Amar berkata, cadangan projek pembinaan kolam takungan terbesar di Kelantan itu telah mendapat kelulusan Kementerian Alam Sekitar dan Air (KASA).
Beliau berkata, pembinaan kolam takungan yang terletak di Machang itu sudah dimasukkan ke dalam Rancangan Malaysia Ke-12 (RMK-12) dengan cadangannya dikemukakan dua tahun lalu.

Beliau sekali lagi menegaskan masalah air di Kelantan dapat diselesaikan sekiranya Kelantan memperoleh peruntukan mencukupi dianggarkan sekurang-kurangnya RM7 bilion.
Jelasnya, tidak pelik dan masuk akal keperluan peruntukan itu memandangkan keadaan keperluan semasa dan peningkatan kos. "Sekarang ni tahun 2022, keperluan kewangan semakin meningkat sebab isu air kita tengok ialah pertambahan penduduk," kata Mohd Amar. Jelasnya, anggaran RM7 bilion itu antaranya melibatkan pembinaan loji rawatan air (LRA) yang baharu, kolam takungan serta penukaran paip lama kepada yang baharu sekitar 5,000 kilometer. Sebelum ini ada pihak termasuk badan bukan kerajaan dikenali sebagai Save Kelantan mempersoalkan jumlah RM7 bilion itu.

@AmericanAir kicked me off the flight and harassed me to take off my sponsored @RIPNDIP 'F**K YOU' sweatpants in front of people to board again.
Yesterday coming back from JFK to LAX with American Airlines, I was harassed and humiliated. I was forced out of the plane and was harassed to take off my pants in front of the flight crews at the gate. I have never had an issue with wearing this pair of pants before in my many months of touring in North America and they did not have any problem with me wearing it at the time of check-in nor when I sat down at my seat.

Here is my story.

A staff suddenly approached me to pack up my belongings and leave the plane without any kind of explanation. As I was escorted off the plane, they claimed that my sweatpants were “inappropriate” and “offensive” telling me that I need to take the next flight. I had an important meeting set up in LA on that day, so I could not afford to get off this flight. I pleaded to stay on the flight but was ignored by the staff and the flight attendants. I even offered to get changed but the request was denied. What happened next was horrendous.
With my broken fingers, I hardly ended up taking off my pants in front of the whole crew and standing half-naked while they still refused to board me on the flight. They even sarcastically commented that I could have taken off my pants earlier. When they finally let me enter, I put my pants inside out and finally sat down after an hour of delay causing inconvenience to the members of the flights on board. I was mortified and trembling in fear for the next 6 hours on my flight back to LA. In my 8 years of touring, I have never experienced or been treated unfairly, especially in a country that is known for its freedom of speech and individuality.

From now on, I will be boycotting @AmericanAir and hope this NEVER happens to anyone ever again.

Chris Chan arrested after claims of raping their mother and stealing money

Officially named Christine Weston Chandler, the infamous internet personality (known as the "most documented person in history") was arrested in Richmond, Virginia. Photos showed Chan being handcuffed at the Regency Inn, where Chan was staying due to an Emergency Protection Order issued by Ruckersville police.

The police conducted a welfare check on Chan's home on July 30 following the leak of some very concerning text messages between Chan and a friend. According to the conversation, Chan had been raping their own mother, an 80-year-old with dementia.

The text messages, along with the audio recording that was leaked along with it, disturbed the internet. While Chan had been notorious for slowly deteriorating and behaving strangely over the years, this was too far for most people that had been following the saga. The text messages included claims of performing oral sex on Barb against her will and the ailing mother telling Chan "stop."

The results of the assessment police conducted on Barbara have not been publicly revealed. But Barbara was moved from the home and into a hospital. Meanwhile, Chan was given a temporary EPO which wouldn't allow them to enter the home until August 5.

The reason for the arrest has also not been publicly shared but it comes right after the chat log leaks. Incest, elder abuse, and rape are all crimes in Virginia. Chan also allegedly stole $750 from Barbara's bank account, which may be a violation of the EPO.

Multiple sources were outside the hotel Chan was staying at, waiting to get footage of Chan's now-infamous arrest. Chan appeared eerily calm in the video.

Many people are hoping this is the end of Chan's unfortunate and disturbing saga, which has been well-documented all over the internet for over a decade.

'Many people died in front of me': hundreds of Rohingya stranded on refugee boats in Bay of Bengal

UN warns of a 'human tragedy of terrible proportions' if no action is taken to help refugees still floating hopelessly on the open sea

Shomshu Alom, 18, was one of the survivors on a boat with hundreds of Rohingya refugees which was rescued by the Bangladesh coastguard two weeks ago

Shomshu Alom, 18, spent 53 days at sea.

Drifting on a fishing trawler that was teeming with other desperate refugees, he watched his friends die in front of him, starved, and was forced to drink sea water to survive.

For weeks, all they saw was the darkness below deck or the water all around them, and all they could do was pray. When Mr Alom was eventually brought ashore in Bangladesh two weeks ago, he was close to death.

"I was like a dead body, I was alive but I didn't have any sense," he says. "Thank God, my life was saved, but many people in front of my eyes died slowly."

Mr Alom was one of around 390 survivors who were rescued on April 16 from a trafficking boat that was trying to get to Malaysia. They were fleeing desperate conditions in the world's largest refugee camp, Kutupalong, in Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar, now home to more than one million Rohingya refugees, who fled a brutal campaign of ethnic cleansing in neighbouring Myanmar.

Their boat had actually reached Malaysia several days before, but the authorities refused to let them disembark, citing the coronavirus lockdown. They were forced back to sea, and ultimately, to the camp in Bangladesh, where the survivors have been in quarantine for two weeks.

Now the UN is warning of a "human tragedy of terrible proportions" if no action is taken to help other refugees still floating hopelessly in the Bay of Bengal.

It is believed there are at least 700 Rohingya men, women and children on three vessels currently in the open sea, with no hope of docking, in need of urgent medical care, food, and water.

Conditions on board are terrible, said Mr Alom. Men live crammed below deck, with only space to crouch. Women and children are above deck, but all struggle for food; around half a cup of water on a good day, and a couple of mouthfuls of rice at 4pm. Some refugees were beaten by the traffickers.

At least 70 people are reported to have died on board his vessel, and the charity Médecins Sans Frontières, which treated the survivors when they made it back to Bangladesh – including some young children – said that most of the survivors couldn't stand or walk on their own when they reached the shore, rescued by the Bangladeshi coast guard.

The passengers on the boats still at sea are likely to be in a similar state. About a fortnight ago, one large boat with around 200 passengers was escorted out of Malaysian waters by the authorities, after they provided some food. The status of this boat is unknown, although on Saturday a smaller boat containing around 50 refugees arrived in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh authorities would not confirm whether the people on board had been on the larger boats, but Mohammed Shobbir Ahmed, 48, said his two daughters, Imtiaz Begum, 19, and Shawkat Ara Begum, 17, had left the camp two months go to reach Malaysia and had called him on Saturday to confirm they were alive, and back in Bangladesh.

He has heard nothing since, and does not know where they will now be sent, although Bangladesh security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the rescued Rohingya would be sent to the island of Bhashan Char in the Bay of Bengal, where Bangladesh has built shelters for some 100,000 refugees. Human rights organisations have said it remains unclear if the island is actually habitable.

Mr Ahmed had heard nothing from his daughters for 41 days before the call this weekend, and had feared the worst. Three days ago, the traffickers told him if he paid 120,000 Bangladesh taka (£1,130) more on top of his initial fee, he would get his daughters back.

Last Monday, Bangladesh's foreign minister, Abdul Momen, told the media that his country would no longer allow in any Rohingya.

"I am opposed to allowing these Rohingya into the country because Bangladesh is always asked to take care of the responsibility of other countries," he said. It is unclear if the rescue on Saturday signals a change in policy.

Malaysia, too, has said it will not take in more refugees, and rounded up around 500 undocumented migrants in downtown Kuala Lumpur this weekend, again citing concerns over the spread of coronavirus.

The deceased was reportedly killed while smuggling drugs

A Rohingya refugee has died in a gunfight with the Detective Branch (DB) of police at Ramu upazila under Cox’s Bazar.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rashid Prakhash Khorshed, 30. He was a resident of Kutupalong Rohingya camp C-2 block.

The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday in Jouarianala rubber garden area in Ramu.

3,000 yaba pills, a locally made LG gun and a motorcycle were recovered from the site, claimed police.

Inspector Manas Barua of district DB police confirmed the matter saying: “Police went to the location upon getting information about someone smuggling yaba via a motorcycle. When the police indicated to stop the motorcycle, Khorshed started shooting at the police, which led to police firing back in self-defence.

“Police recovered the dead body along with the yaba pills from the location afterwards,” he added.

The dead body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar hospital for post mortem and a case is being filed under the appropriate law.

Dhaka: Bangladesh tidak akan menerima dua kapal yang membawa ratusan pelarian Rohingya, kata menteri luarnya.

Kontroversi terbaru itu meletus kira-kira seminggu selepas puluhan etnik Rohingya mati kelaparan di atas kapal yang ditinggalkan di laut selama dua bulan sebelum dapat mendarat.

Aktivis kini bimbang sekiranya kumpulan besar Rohingya itu terperangkap atas kapal dan tidak boleh mendarat di mana-mana negara.

Dua kapal berkenaan dikesan di perairan antarabangsa selepas terdapat usaha cuba memasuki Malaysia, kata pemimpin komuniti Rohingya.

Bangladesh sudah mengarahkan kawalan diperketatkan di Selat Bengal bagi menghalang kapal berkenaan memasuki perairan negara, kata Menteri Luar, AK Abdul Momen.

"Dua kapal membawa etnik Rohingya cuba memasuki perairan negara dan kami sudah mengarahkan tentera laut dan penjaga perairan untuk lebih peka.

"Mereka diarahkan untuk tidak membenarkan kapal ini masuk ke Bangladesh. Tiada lagi Rohingya dibenarkan masuk," katanya.

Kira-kira sejuta etnik Rohingya kini mendiami kem-kem di sempadan Bangladesh - Myanmar selepas mendakwa ditindas di tempat asal mereka di Rakhine.

Families start Idul Fitri ‘mudik’ early despite COVID-19 warning

Families residing in Jakarta have started to pack their bags and return to their home towns, including to Wonogiri, Central Java, despite the government’s warning for people not to travel home for Idul Fitri this year so as to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The coronavirus has infected at least 790 people across the country as of Thursday at noon and killed 58 in total.

Hesti Winarni, a 43-year-old meatball seller in Jakarta, decided to return to Wonogiri since her business had experienced a decline of sales since the outbreak hit the capital city.

“The kids are off from school. Wonogiri is also safer than Jakarta," said Hesti, a resident of Baturetno district.

She was not the only one to return to her home town, as transportation authorities in Wonogiri have recorded about 14,000 people coming into the regency within last week. According to data gathered at the Giri Adipura bus terminal in the regency, as many as 876 buses from Greater Jakarta area carrying a total of 14,140 passengers had arrived in Wonogiri.

Such an increase in the number of passengers usually only occurs during the Idul Fitri mudik (exodus), said Agus Hasto Purwanto, the head of the bus terminal.

“Normally, fewer than 1,000 passengers arrive in Wonogiri every day. However, the number has started to jump in the past few weeks to 2,000 per day,” Agus said, adding the number was expected to keep rising until the end of the COVID-19 emergency, possibly in late May.

Wonogiri Regent Joko Sutopo defended people’s decisions to return to their home towns, as most who migrated from the regency work as small vendors and factory workers across Greater Jakarta. They had no option but to go home, he said, as they earned no money during the work-from-home period.

Joko said the administration could prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the region, amid the mass exodus that has been a tradition of the residents.

“We’re disseminating information [on COVID-19] to neighborhood units [RT] and youth groups in communities. We are not worried because everything is going well as planned,” the regent said.

He added that local officials and health facilitators had been actively spreading the information. Health officials would also disinfect train stations and bus terminals, as well as provide hand sanitizer to passengers.

As of Thursday morning, Wonogiri confirmed it had two COVID-19-positive cases. One of the patients has died of the disease, while the other – a Wonogiri-Bogor intercity bus driver – is being treated at Soediran Mangun Sumarso Hospital in the regency.

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo had urged residents working in Jakarta not to return home and demanded residents in the province not to go to the capital city. "There should be a record of each traveler's health at Central Java’s border," he said.

The Transportation Ministry is currently considering a plan to ban this year’s Idul Fitri mudik, but has yet reached a final decision (trn)
