Tata, as an Indian company, might have faced an uphill battle marketing Jaguar’s new identity in China, making a lump-sum sale an attractive option.

Jaguar’s new ownership will likely see it tapping into Geely’s extensive technological resources, particularly in EVs. Geely’s Zeekr brand has developed cutting-edge architectures and software, including the Zeekr G-Pilot, which features dual Nvidia Drive AGX Thor chips with a combined computing power of 1,400 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second). On January 2nd, Chinese media reported on a Neta Auto vehicle that is about 1.5 years old and now can only travel 40 kilometers per charge. In a video, Ms. He, the owner from Huzhou, Zhejiang, explained the situation.

According to the video, the car is a Neta Aya, which Ms. He purchased in May 2023 for 76,000 RMB (approximately RM46,775). The official range was 401 kilometers.

The car started having issues after recent cold weather, with its range dropping sharply. According to Ms. He, the range dropped to about 60 kilometers.

Due to the severe range drop, Ms. He sought help from Neta Auto. Since the dealer she originally bought the car from had closed, she took it to the Anji Neta 4S dealer for repairs.

The dealer's staff told Ms. He that the battery of her Neta Aya had failed and needed to be replaced. However, the battery pack was out of stock, so the dealer couldn't replace it.

Ms. He was further troubled when the range recently dropped to just 40 kilometers. Her round trip to work is 42 kilometers, meaning she couldn't use the car for commuting. In the video, she complained that a single charge used to last 3 to 4 days.

The dealer couldn't give Ms. He an exact repair time, only saying it might be possible after the New Year.

The dealer contacted the battery manufacturer multiple times, but the battery pack was still out of stock. To help Ms. He, the dealer promised to lend her a "temporary car."

Ms. He reported the issue to Neta Auto's national customer service and repair head. However, the response was similar to before, with no exact arrival time for the battery pack.

(Beijing, Dec 11) – Multiple outbreaks of norovirus infections have been reported across various regions in China recently. The acute infectious diarrhea caused by the virus has entered its peak season. The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasized that norovirus is highly contagious, and there are currently no specific drugs or vaccines available for treatment.

China’s National Disease Control Bureau issued the "Technical Guidelines for Norovirus Infection Prevention and Disinfection in Key Locations such as Schools" on November 30. The guidelines note that all populations are generally susceptible to norovirus, and alcohol is ineffective against it. The public is urged to remain vigilant.

According to a report by CCTV News on Dec 3, norovirus is characterized by its high transmissibility, low infectious dose, long viral shedding period, short immunity duration, and universal susceptibility across all age groups. It is prone to causing outbreaks of infectious diarrhea in crowded settings such as schools, childcare centers, and elderly care facilities.

Recent norovirus outbreaks across multiple regions in China have resulted in many children being hospitalized for treatment. Since October, several group outbreaks have occurred. In one case, three classes at Zhejiang Road Primary School in Zhangwan District, Shiyan City, Hubei Province, were infected, forcing the school to suspend classes on Nov 5.

On Oct 17, several students at Yingpanshan Primary School in Yixiang Town, Simao District, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, exhibited symptoms such as vomiting and abdominal pain. Tests preliminarily identified the cases as norovirus infections. As of 4 p.m. on Oct 18, 18 cases meeting the clinical definition had been reported.

The aforementioned guidelines stress that when norovirus infections are detected in key locations such as schools, patients should be promptly isolated, and disinfection measures should be implemented without delay.

The guidelines also point out that norovirus is highly resistant to common disinfectants, and alcohol is ineffective. High-level disinfectants or effective physical disinfection methods should be used. For heavily contaminated items such as vomit and excreta, disinfectant powders or bleaching powders containing absorbent components should be used to cover them entirely. Alternatively, high-level disinfectant wipes can be used to cover the materials thoroughly, ensuring sufficient contact time before careful removal.

To prevent norovirus infections, CCTV News recommends:

Washing hands properly before meals, after using the restroom, and before handling food. Use soap and running water, scrubbing for at least 20 seconds.
Thoroughly cleaning food and ensuring it is fully cooked before consumption.
Avoiding the consumption of untreated water.
Ensuring that employees or students with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain seek medical attention promptly. They should not work or attend school while ill.

The EX30 is 1550mm tall, 1838mm wide and 4233mm long (Volvo XC40: 1652mm tall, 1873mm wide and 4440mm long).

There are a total of 3 variants offered for the Volvo EX30 in Malaysia. Across the board, the EX30 will be equipped with the larger 69kWh NMC battery which offers up to 476km of range.

The two lower EX30 variants (Plus and Ultra) get a single motor driving the rear wheels which pushes 203kW (272hp) and 342Nm of torque. 0-100km/h takes 5.3 seconds, and it goes up to a maximum speed of 180km/h.

Meanwhile, the range-topping Ultra Twin Performance model pushes a combined output of 315kW (422hp) as well as 543Nm of torque. The AWD model can get from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds and it’s also speed limited to 180km/h. With the added front motor, the range is slightly reduced at up to 450km which is still pretty decent and that’s 50km more than the Smart #1 Brabus.

The Volvo EX30 adopts a Tesla-style minimalistic interior and Volvo claims that this vehicle has the lowest carbon footprint in its lineup with extensive use of sustainable and naturally sourced materials. The dash features a large tablet-like display which controls the majority of the vehicle’s functions.

There is no instrument cluster or a heads-up display (HUD), but it still retains physical controls like the signal indicator stalks and gear selector on the steering column. The infotainment system is powered by Google with over-the-air (OTA) updates. If you prefer to connect your own device, it also has support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Instead of having speakers mounted on the individual doors, Volvo has moved the speakers into a single-piece Harman Kardon Premium soundbar mounted above the dashboard. As a result, the doors offer ample of cubby space to store your water bottles and loose items.

Despite being a small SUV, it features a host of clever storage compartments and it has a flat floor which is made possible with a dedicated EV platform. The EX30 has a 315L boot which is expandable up to 904L with the rear seats folded and underfloor storage utilised. If you need more storage, the compact EV also features a small frunk underneath the bonnet.

In terms of charging, the Volvo EX30 supports DC charging up to 175kW, allowing the car to be charged from 10-80% in less than 30 minutes. For AC charging, Malaysia is only opting for an 11kW onboard charger across all variants in Malaysia.

Silo AI's CEO and co-founder Peter Sarlin will continue to lead the unit as part of the AMD Artificial Intelligence Group, AMD said. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2024.

Title: Decision by the Kedah Government to Cease Issuance and Renewal of Licenses Unconstitutional; High Court Rules in Favor of Three Betting Companies

(Alor Setar, Kangar, 9th) The Alor Setar High Court has ruled that the decision by the Kedah state government, passed during the state executive council meeting, to cease issuing and renewing licenses for betting companies is ultra vires (beyond its constitutional powers) and thus violates the Federal Constitution. As a result, the court ruled in favor of the three betting companies that had sued the state government.

According to a report by Sin Chew Daily, the Alor Setar High Court made this ruling on June 20, with the judgment read by Judge Mahajan. However, the Kedah state government filed an appeal three days later.

The betting companies in Kedah have temporarily ceased operations.

According to the judgment, the High Court found that the decision made by the Kedah state government on December 8, 2021, during the state executive council meeting to cease issuing and renewing betting company licenses from January 1, 2023, violated the Federal Constitution.

The judgment noted that following this state executive council decision, the Alor Setar City Council also issued a notice to the operators, stating that all related business licenses would no longer be renewed.

"Under Articles 73, 74, 75, and 80(1) of the Federal Constitution, the state government's decision is illegal and must be revoked."

The High Court also ordered the Kedah state government, Kedah Chief Minister Muhammad Sanusi, Alor Setar City Council, and Mayor Yusri, as defendants, to compensate the plaintiffs for their losses.

Meanwhile, in Perlis, the case of Toto Betting Limited and four others challenging the Perlis state government's decision not to allow betting outlets to apply for business licenses has been brought to the Court of Appeal for pre-trial case management.

The plaintiffs had filed for judicial review in July of last year, but the application was dismissed by the Kangar High Court in January of this year. The five parties then brought the case to the Court of Appeal.

The plaintiffs filed the case in the Kangar Court on July 26 last year, alleging that the Kangar City Council's directive on April 27, 2023, to cease renewing betting outlet licenses was ultra vires and violated the Federal Constitution. They argued that the decision resulted in employee unemployment and loss of income and infringed on the legal gambling rights of non-Muslims.
