Car jack and robbery - 'new' tactic

Read this link in paultan's blog and remembered an article I read last wk in the Star..

This is Chips Yap himself, veteran motoring journalist

Where it happened (near Istana Negara/along Kuen Cheng school):

QUOTE

...the second thought made me hesitate about getting down and in fact, even when they (two Indians on a motorbike) drew alongside me in the jam along Jalan Syed Putra, Kuala Lumpur... and turned into the carpark at Muzium Negara. I was still alert for the possibility that they followed me so I quickly ran to the front to check – no oil, nothing visibly wrong – and as I rushed back to the door, around the corner they came! I jumped in and they did a u-turn and went off.

Story: Robbery Tactic

This person works in the Star building.

Where it happened:

QUOTE

I was driving home after work on the same route, as always just after midnight from Phileo Damansara via Jalan Universiti taking the underpass of the former Jalan Univer-sity/Jalan Dato Abu Bakar roundabout, then joining up with the Federal Highway opposite the PJ Hilton.

Story: A trusting move that cost me my car

One can never be too careful these days.. Being informed is the 1st step. Put this here so more ppl will know.. disgusted this is happening in this country! What is happening...!

More here, http://www.motortrader.com.my/asp/forum/fo...asp?FORUM_ID=60

Tax rebate for full medical checkup

Anyone hv used this rebate b4? Can get RM500 rebate off if you go for full medical checkup

From Public Ruling 2/2005. Pg 14 Computation of Income Tax Payable by a Resident Individual (pdf)

QUOTE

6.1.7 Complete medical examination expenses - para. 46(1)(h) ITA
Total deduction: up to a maximum of RM500 and forms a part of the deduction of RM5,000 under paragraph 46(1)(g) ITA.
Details:
i. The individual must have incurred expenses for complete medical examination on himself/herself, spouse or child;
ii. “Complete medical examination” for the purposes of the deduction under this paragraph would mean full medical checkup as defined by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
iii. Where the expenses for complete medical examination up to a maximum of RM500 is already claimed, the deduction for medical expenses for serious diseases which can be claimed by the individual is limited to an amount of RM4,500.

(ITA==Income Tax Act)

I called IRB today and she confirmed can be done, thou the normal Pathlab/Gribbles lab tests cannot la.. onli 'full medical checkup' is claimable for tax rebate.

However, the fees for a full medical checkup is quite high thou..I called Pantai Medical Centre some months back, it costs like above 500.. if anyone has any comments on full medical checkups.. do lemme know too. Thanks!

Link to Public Rulings, http://www.hasil.org.my/english/eng_NO4_5_2.asp

New Citibank Visa Shell credit card - worth it?

Posting in normal english, without all the 'confusing' sales and legal language, hopefully can understand.

My question: Worth it? What u think, esp in view of increased petrol price very soon now?

The pitch:
New credit card from Citibank saves 1.5% - 5% off yr *Shell* fuel.

How they help me save? By giving rebate for using this card to purchase Shell fuel. (Similar to their cash back card)

Savings scenario :

Pre requisite
1. I don't carry forward my balance (means every month I pay in full)
2. My monthly fuel spending is RM200
3. I use the classic version of this new Citibank card

Therefore, I will be entitled to the 1.5% minimum rebate for the classic card. My monthly savings will be 1.5% out of RM200, i.e. RM3. Means I will get RM3 rebate for the next billing cycle, not actually RM3 in cash.

If/when my monthly fuel spending is somehow increased to RM250 monthly my savings will be RM45 per year (0.375*12).

Check the calculator on the page and the rebate table. Link below.

Here's the product page: Link

Summary page: Link

Promo:
If sign up by 13th Jan, the rebate will be doubled for 60days from date card is issued. Means will get 3% instead of 1.5% for scenario above.

ps.
1. Nope, I won't get any benefit at all from Citibank out of this, not even working for them, never even worked for them and no plans too. Its not a sales pitch.

2. Yes, existing other Citi card holder can change to this card.

3. Of coz, you will 'enjoy' more rebate (refer to table) if you carry the balance forward every month, but remember the interest charged for outstanding balances.
